For those having issues with “unlock with Apple Watch”, there is now a confirmed workaround from another MR member in the other thread I created.

1. Wait until next update which will solve the issue. And use code / no mask in meanwhile.

2. Workaround:
- Make a NEW Back-up for the iPhone13 (Pro).
- Erase phone and set up as new phone.
- Restore from backup iPhone13 NOT from original backup (iPhone11/12 etc).
- Go to 'settings' > 'Face ID & Passcode' V 'Unlock with Apple Watch' ... now the toggle switch and connection should work!
I’ll wait for the fix. Resetting to start over will remove my Esim, and I don’t want to have to deal with Telstra if anything stuffs up trying to get it back. I’ll be at work all week and won’t have access to my phone much, so not a big deal. I’ll have it smoko and lunch where masks can be removed anyway.

I did erase all settings on my 13PM - just to do my laptop to phone backup restoration. Before the final “confirm” button, there is an option that comes up that allows you to erase all settings AND keep your data plan. I didn’t lose my eSIM That way. I realize you may be in Oz based on Tesltra - this was on AT&T in USA. I get it though on erasing and I was super nervous about deleting my eSIM.

BTW - My process with the new phone was:
1) Unpair AppleWatch from 12P
2) Backup 12P to iCloud and full Finder/MacOS/Laptop Backup - encrypted to retain all log-ins/health/activity data
3) Updated 13PM from RC to latest iOS15
4) Erased all Settings AND Kept Data Plan
5) Restored from Finder/MacOS/Laptop Backup

So far - unlock AW with iPhone unlock, unlock Laptop w/ AW, and Unlock 13PM with Mask on/AW on wrist - all have worked without issue.

Seems like iOS 15 still needs a lot of work, restarted my phone before, now my batterry percentage is always stuck lol, stupid thing won’t go down unless I restart my phone. 🤦‍♂️

Thinking of jumping on iOS 15.1 to see if it fixes it.

I wasn’t aware of the, I’ll check it out later and see if it gives me that option. Cheers.

I’m going to lay off the betas for a bit I think.

Same here, just erased and restored from backup, all good now.
Yeah just did mine. iCloud backup, erase phone, keeping mobile plan, then restored from the iCloud backup. Less hassle than I expected, don’t have to do logins again, and 2FA stuff, it’s as if I didn’t restore. Nice.

Interestingly when I re-paired my watch, even after choosing restore from backup, it asked me to add my DOB, height, weight etc. all over again.

Selected watch to unlock phone, no problem.

Upgraded from an 11 pro max:
1) pro motion is so smooth
2) phone is way faster
3) screen is brighter and sharper
4) camera improvements are great
5) battery…wow!
The sharpness and smoothness of the screen are remarkable. I haven’t had a 120hz phone before and now I’m holding the best implementation of it in the world. Apple’s best display yet.

I switched off 120Hz for a while and the screen stutter was immediately noticeable.

LOVE this 13PM, best iPhone yet!

For those who've had the new phone since Friday, is your "optimised charging" working?

When I had the 12PM, the battery would charge to 80% and stay there for a couple of hours overnight and then starting charging to 100% maybe 2-3 hours before I get up.

With the new phone, it just keeps charging to 100%.

I have owned so many iterations of the iPhone starting with the 3GS. This 13 PM Sierra Blue is what I have been waiting for all these years. I am just awestruck. The BATTERY…Saturday 7am charged to 91%. Sunday 9pm at 30%! And I’ve used it non stop. Even Facebook the battery drainer. I have ProMotion on my 2020 iPad Pro 11”…but the feel of it on this iPhone is like gliding on ice. I am so grateful I was able to get this phone.

Could it be that it’s still learning the charging pattern?

Give it a couple of weeks so it can learn your charging pattern. 👀🔌🔋

Apple should have caught this, there are enough employees that had to run into this problem. Like you, I'm able to unlock my iPhone 13 Pro Max with my Apple Watch Series 4, my MacBook Air with watch. I've had issues unlocking my MBA with Apple Watch, it works for a few days, sometimes over a week, but all of a sudden it stops working. When I try to enable I get the communications message.

I found a workaround where I have to completely shut down the MBA, iPhone 12 Pro Max (now I had to do it once with the 13 Pro Max, and the Apple Watch. Restart all three, login to MBA, check settings>security and privacy and the box is checked to unlock with Apple Watch and it works.

This is buggy. When enabling unlock with Apple Watch on iPhone, I try and turn it on, get the communications message, and completely shut down the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Apple Watch. Start them back up, on iPhone enter the passcode, go to settings> FaceID and passcode> unlock with Apple Watch is sometimes green, other times it's unchecked. I turn off the screen, tap the iPhone display and it unlocks with my watch.

Hope the fix comes soon.

I just picked up my iPhone 13 Pro Max 128GB Sierra Blue from the Apple Store in Sydney Australia.

First impressions:
  • The new phone feels does not feel any heavier in the hands than the 12 Pro Max
  • The smaller notch is not that noticeable. But the font size in the status bar on either side of the notch seems to have increased, and they've moved it down from the top of the display. Why not keep the same font and position and add an extra icon or two?
  • Sierra blue is absolutely stunning in person. It looks more steel / ice / glacial blue and not so much baby / powder blue. The colour on that stainless steel band is beautiful. Like the Pacific Blue last year, you get different colours in different lighting conditions
  • Promotion display - Just WOW. Never had a Samsung 120Hz screen before so I didn’t even realise how smooth scrolling, swiping between pages on the Home Screen and watching videos can be. It’s worth every penny and is very noticeable even to untrained eyes like mine.
  • Display is cooler than the 12 Pro Max display and no yellow tint when put side by side against each other.
  • It pairs perfectly with the Apple dark cherry and sequoia green leather case,
  • MagSafe magnet attachment does not seem any stronger than last year
Happy to take questions! I've taken the day off work so I should be able to answer your questions within a reasonable time.

Some photos attached. Includes direct comparison with 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue, and when paired with Apple black silicone, dark cherry, sequoia green leather cases and Otterbox Aneu series in light blue.

A few more pics in indoor lighting, sitting next to balcony window with afternoon light filtering through. I think it’s the colour contrast that makes most pics look grey blue. Next to the leather cases, it looks visibly more blue.

Have you noticed any issue with the new ear speaker placement when talking on the phone?

Looks like a slab of a color without a case so I’m using a nice case but I’m unsure of what I’ll do when I get my Sierra blue iPhone.
