I share the same sentiment as you. 7 Plus is a decent phone. Maybe you can change the battery and wait for the 14 and let’s hope that there’s no tinting on it.
I feel the same here, only have enough time and patience left for one more try at getting an acceptable decent quality screen, third time’s the charm right guys?

But if that’s still the same bs I’m just going to return it and wait for the 14 Pro Max hopefully by then Apple gets their crap together.

You’re going to get a tint somewhere on the screen. Pick your location at best, by going through devices like most of us did. For your information, my first device had stainless steel band damage out of the box , second had red tint at the lower half quarter of the screen and third one which I’m keeping has a slight pink tint right top corner which doesn’t catch my eye on white backgrounds like the second one.

Wow that’s ridiculous, how rare is it to get a relatively uniform screen? You know it’s kinda weird when none of the reviewers mentioned anything about this, do they not see it, or did they receive the best overall quality assurance score models? ?

uniformity in lack of integrity amongst most of the influencers

Likely because reviewers gets the cherry picked review units selected by Apple. ?

But I think most reviewers likely did not use their phone in dark rooms and likely don't notice.

Replying to this and your other post about third time's the charm: it is a game of probabilities, and I went through 8 devices before finding out that I felt is good enough. This one is not perfect, either.

Speaking generally now, I totally understand the sentiment that we shouldn't look at gray or white slides in a dark room to find problems that we don't see yet, and that's a fair argument. However, these gray/white slides are a good baseline to discover these non-unifomities ahead of time, before the X day return period runs out and you discover that the top half of Apollo seems more orange than the rest. At that point, the only option is to go through the Apple Store for screen replacements (and I believe you cannot look at the panel before they put it on) or go for ERS replacements, which are likely refurbished devices at this point. Finding out about the degree at which your display has this issue earlier on is advantageous -- the device is entirely new and untouched. I wouldn't pay full price for a refurbished device so soon from launch.

No OLED display is perfect, but at the price point for these devices (up to $2,000 maxed out with AppleCare+), it is worth being anal about the quality of device you have. Exchange it until you get one that you are satisfied with.

Damn, 8 devices? I wonder just how many of these defective screens are out there.

And yeah you’re preaching to the choir, I didn’t pay this much for a display quality that’s objectively much worse than my old 8+

Thing is I’m not even that picky on details, this weird colour gradient/lack of uniformity is so blatantly obvious when reading your typical webpage with black text on a consistent white background.

The reviewers don’t want to get in Apple’s bad books. Especially the big boy or girl YouTubers. Most would rather tell their viewers what they want to hear unfortunately.

I also hope that top tech reviewers would bring up this matter in their reviews - that doesn’t have the Apple embargo nonsense tied to it. As long as Apple does not acknowledge the tinting, this matter does not exist in their realms.

Hi guys. As it was stated the issue appears at min brightness.
I did a special test of iphone13's screen, and using brightness under ~20% for prolonged periods of time is not advised. Dont do that before going to bed in order to have a better sleep.
Every oled screen flickers, Apple did a good job at 13 as they doubled the frequency to 480 Hz and kept coefficients at bearable values.
But at min brightness the flicker is unavoidable and here, with the help of interference, you can see how severe it is:
The second video is SGS21 Ultra, its flicker is much worse.
I think, iphone13's screen is the best oled we can get at this point if time.

40!!!! :) and your account didn't get flagged? No, I am not anywhere near that number!
Thankfully not. I know that is absolutely insane! But Apple's QC is abysmal over the past 5-7 years. It's all about profit over quality.

So lol

Did you keep the keeper , did you find a keeper, and did you skip iPhone 13?

I would hope for all that effort it’s a device you’re holding onto for a while

And was that 40 trips to apple store? Geez. Could’ve bought you a iPhone 13 with that gas money
No, didn't keep any. Just ended up holding onto my iPhone X. Got 2 13 Pro's which both had horrible uniformity. Then tried a 13 Pro Max and it does have a slight red tint towards the bottom but I'm happy enough that I'm keeping it.

Well, I finally had a chance to get to the Apple store with my 13 pro max. I was well outside the 14 day window so they just replaced the screen but I am much happier with it. It's by no means perfect, but far far less tint than before.

It would be nice if we could get apple to publicly acknowledge this problem, however I suspect pigs will sooner fly. If your average Joe with an iPhone starts looking at grey pictures in a dark room, Apple are going to have an insane number of people coming in for screen replacements/phone swaps.

The frequency of the PWM does appear to be higher, but there is something about the display that causes my eyes to not be able to focus properly. My vision gets blurred after looking at it for even a shorter time. This may have happened on other OLED phones too, but it’s very apparent here.

Unfortunately I’m a nocturnal creature and I love the Dark Mode. Seems like it’s a perfect combination to encounter the tinting.

Heard that replacing screens can break Face ID. Is yours working fine?

It was at an Apple store so as far as I'm aware they replace it using one of those Horizon machines which properly pairs up the new display so as not to affect the biometrics. See here: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...sier-as-states-mull-repair-laws-idUSKBN18Y0BF

They have done a good job, looks good as new. In fact better than new, now that my phone doesn't look sunburnt when using it at night!

Very common for OLED. I’m very sensitive to it and many of my past iPhones had it (12 PM, 11PM) but this 13P seems flawless. (Did I win the lottery?)

My display is pretty perfect, unless I don’t know what imperfections I’m supposed to look for. ;-p

The issue has nothing to do with PWN flicker. It’s the entire screen having a noticeable color gradient when it’s supposed to faithfully reproduce one single color.

Seeing how it was so consistent on the many phones I tested, just to various degrees, I’m starting to wonder if it’s an issue with the coatings on the glass and not necessarily the display panel itself.
I honestly think it has something to do with the Ceramic Shield. Not only are some not uniform but they have decreased sharpness almost like a filter is covering the display.

Try polishing it off then. 🤣 doubt it’s on the glass. My belief is that it’s the process they are using to bond glass onto the panel. The pressure is not consistent or completely flat on areas that show poor uniformity.

I thought that was only an issue with LCD displays.

With LED-backlit LCD TVs, gray uniformity issues are caused by a couple of factors. LCD panels are pretty sensitive to pressure, so extra pressure caused by misalignment of the TV's components or by mishandling of the panel during manufacturing or shipping could lead to defects appearing. Also, too much pressure can affect the backlight and how much light it diffuses, which causes some areas to be darker.

With OLED TVs, the gray uniformity issues are more related to imperfections in the panel itself, independent of pressure-related problems.

It’s about TVs but I think it’s the same principle for all OLED display panels.

I think the current issue with iPhones is over and beyond the typical oled issue described above in your links. Most the issues mentioned here started off with the iPhone 12 onwards.

I agree with you. But I also think something during the manufacturing process of the Ceramic Shield causes inconsistencies in clarity. A lot of these issues became more pronounced since using it in the iPhone 12.
