Final Thoughts

Overall, the iPhone 14 Pro is shaping up to be a fairly significant upgrade over the iPhone 13, with new features and improvements across multiple key areas. Providing the above enhancements are delivered as expected, some iPhone 13 Pro users could justify upgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro, while customers coming from an older model could have good reason to preference the latest "Pro" model over the iPhone 13 Pro.
No, it will be a minute iterative upgrade. Those with a 13pro will not see substantial upgrades and would be better to wait a year or 4.

Tired of this yearly hyping of why the current year model is somehow inadequate to the upcoming release

This is the cycle you want to upgrade... I believe Apple says aiming to do a "major" refresh every 2 years... The IP13 cycle is a more refined cycle but you won't get the "NEW" features in that cycle... UPGRADE FOLKS.. SEE YOU IN 2 YEARS..

A great write off, but my decision to upgrade from iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro will be based on one thing: carrier trade in promo.

Last year, I was able to upgrade from iPhone 12 Pro to iPhone 13 Pro for only $80 + taxes (Apple Store's T-Mobile promo). If the iPhone 14 Pro promo is anywhere near that, it's a no brainer for me.
wait what really? I'd do that. I have Tmobile but I always buy my phones out of pocket from apple. how does this promo work ?

Seems to me like ultimately, the question is; "Do you really want to shoot video in 8K resolution?" If yes, upgrade to the 14 Pro. If not, it's just a mish-mash of smaller, iterative updates (WiFi 6e vs 6 and so forth).

The notch getting separated and the pill-hole design alone is a welcome change and worth upgrading.

Agree with you or Apple should just leave it like this. No need to separate it. Keep it simple and aesthetic.

You just made two contradicting comments.

Thought I saw an article here saying the 48 mpx camera would not make it into this years iphone.
Home I'm wrong about that. It would make getting the 14 slightly more exciting.

I am going to wait for iPhone 18 or 19. That's when after years of hard work and cutting edge innovation, Apple will be able to merge the pill and dot and lift it up to the edge of the display so all the display real estate above and between them is not wasted. It will probably look like a notch in the display but it will be more functional. I have faith in Apple that the boundaries of what humans are capable of can be pushed that far.

I think Samsung had it like this at some point before moving on to the single circle in the corner? I wonder if the awkward ! pill shape is Apples way to distinguish themselves from the competitors, just like the TouchID and Notch was / is.

That's what I was thinking. To differentiate themselves. Either way, it will become an iconic symbol for the iPhone in the coming months/years.

Not upgrading this year, my iPhone 13 Pro Max is a complete beast for what I use it for

I also think watching a movie or program on the ‘pill‘ screen will look odd on bright scenes

I will be watching the Keynote though, my eyes are on the new AirPods Pro 2 for travelling :)

Well, I will upgrade because my carrier offers me a free upgrade every year with a trade in. So free is free (with the activation fee. Which I know is just the vig my carrier hits me for). The new camera looks nice. I especially like taking pictures of the kitties and of the beach resort areas at night. The lights and boardwalk and stuff.

As far as the new mag safe magnets?

"Free"

I’m on Verizon yearly upgrade plan, but I still he to pay NY taxes for the new phone and I purchase the Apple leather case so the upgrade costs me about $200.

For 99% of owners of the iPhone 13 Pro, the answer of whether or not they should upgrade to an iPhone 14 Pro based on the feature set is a resounding no. Perhaps a more interesting and useful article IMO would have been comparisons to older models.

However, if you have money to burn (or can write off the purchase cost) or have some other reason to upgrade from a 13 Pro, then knock yourself out.
Same here...I had every iPhone from the 3G - 7Plus then didn't get another til the 11, then the 13 Pro...there's nothing to push me to get a 14, they've had years to increase the camera resolution and I've grown tired of waiting..even that won't push me to get a 14...I'll wait til the 15 or 16 to buy a new one.
