After trying the 15 Pro for a short time, I went back to the 14 Pro because the lens strangely produced sharper and more detailed 48 MP ProRAW images.

My 13Pro still working fine , it does everything. My complaints are always the camera, specially low light, due to the aggressive HDR my photos look like paintings and also I can't see the screen in direct sunlight even if I have right settings on . It sucks really.

There’s always been oddities generation to generation with the cameras where you almost need to skip a generation to guarantee 100% improvement. One annoyance with the 13 pro is the 3x lens takes a second to switch, with no indication it did in fact switch unless you pay attention to the focus. Hyper annoying

If phones have matured then why are top of the line android phones still managing to wow consumers. Still managing to innovate and Apple is over here making the same thing for years.
Ohhhhh now titanium….
Ohhhh now it’s in PINK.
Ohhhhhh no we have an extra camera
Ohhhhh look guys,WIDGETS. Have you ever heard of widgets, you’re gonna love it.…

Ohhhhhh we STOLE realestate from you phone. And you’re gonna love it.

Phones have not “ matured” Apple has gotten lazy.
That’s it.
The iOS ecosystem is robust. But that’s really the only thing keeping people in apples garden. They can’t find a way to live outside that garden.
Exactly this! Their laziness is becoming their downfall. Look at their laptops. Sure they’re great but since the snapdragon X elite is out and the only difference from a surface and a MacBook is the logo and price Apple needs to do something to distinguish itself from the rest. The competition is more royal in ram and Ssd space and they always had better specifications for lower prices.

Same for the watch and the rest of apples offerings. Competition has come on pair with Apple and in many cases leapfrogged Apple.

The iPhone 12 = 13 = 14 = 15 and probably will be the iPhone 16. Some minor speed bumps and better cameras but basically the same.

I’ll bet Qualcomm will manage to leapfrog Apple’s M-series with their next chipsets too. Their first iteration of the snapdragon x elite already managed to slam the M3 on many fronts.

Apple is not known as a fast moving nimble tech company. Since Tim Cook is around it cares more for milking their customers than giving bang for the buck.

What are “surgical-grade” and “aerospace-grade”? Did any independent 3rd party verify the claim?
That’s marketing bs where Apple excels at. If there aren’t any meaningful upgrades they throw this bs at you.

I’ve heard from reliable sources that the iPhone 18pro will have “alien-grade” materials. I’m holding out for that 😂🤣😂

After reading everyone's replies up to this point I would probably agree and stay with my iPhone 13 Pro Max... however I think one thing that hasn't been talked about here is that if anyone is wanting to leverage most of the new AI features coming then you're going to need the newer chips that support them. So if not the iPhone 16 then the 17 for sure.

I don't know. Perhaps I will wait and see how well the AI features are implemented and if there are any resulting security issues. I do however look forward to a day when I can actually rely on Siri to take care of things like home automation and repetitive tasks etc based on voice input without me having to turn down my TV and repeat myself like im talking to a toddler that's pre-nap cranky.

I just came from an iphone 6 into a 13pm a few months ago. I cant imagine the thought process of someone using this thing and thinking it’s not enough.

actually, with its lack of a sim card, even bigger size, and display that won’t stop glowing, and having the crude first hurried attempt at an ai implementation the 16 looks a lot like a downgrade from the 13.

android phones are wowing customers? hmmm, I barely know anyone that owns one. Maybe it's true for those few that actually use android. We've hit peak smart phone. What more can be done? or should be done?

16 Pro should be a good update for those upgrading from 13. Huge difference in camera, always on display with dynamic island.

Not seeing it. The island is a downgrade. Camera difference irrelevant. Always on was turned off day one. I tell people to keep waiting til their phone doesn’t work or get a battery replacement if it’s that.

I am going to see what is released as I have a 13 Pro Max now and fancy upgrading, but at the same time I don't actually need to as its still a great phone. That is the good thing about modern iPhones though, they seem to be very 'present' for a number of years without getting outdated too quickly. I know enthusiasts get frustrated at this, but its so much better at a consumer level and in the pocket.

They are correct terms, but Apple's marketing machine makes consumers think the materials are more expensive than they actually are, and this is promoted via a very impressive KeyShot animated render at the Keynote for added effect ;)

I’m still stuck on whether to upgrade my 12 Pro Max this year. I need some major battery improvements and an increase of ram for me to upgrade this year if not, I’ll probably will just upgrade next year.

This is a very curious post. Why compare it to a 13? Is this choice the most recent version that shows a marked improvement with the new phone. Reads like MR are trying to help boost potential sales of the 16.
Agreed. I don’t believe this post was sold with the intent to misrepresent the features of version 16 but it is odd that the editor opted not to include 15 in the comparison. Similarly, it would be unusual to compare the forthcoming 2025 Toyota 4Runner to the 2022 Toyota 4Runner. My intuition tells me there is a hint of marketing going on here as the differences between 15 and 16 are inconsequential. How many years have we been told the next version will be significant? Apple is good at psychographics. Create a new iOS that requires more steps to complete the same task, throw in a couple of politically motivated wallpapers, add more emojis, design a bigger camera and 16 is born.

The removal of the silent switch was really a downgrade. The action button should have been an extra button instead of a replacement. No plans to swap my 13pm for at least another year or three.
I am another person that will really miss the silent switch. I can see myself disabling the action button to avoid accidental presses.

It takes a long press to activate the Action button.

I like the new button as the old mute switch was useless. I always turned it to mute and then never changed it until I got rid of the phone.

Dynamic Island is the reason I might consider holding onto the 13PM another year, along with keeping all my lightning accessories.

Pretty sure they already did a 15 comparison article, and a 14. This was obviously written for readers considering upgrading from 13 Pro devices, after an underwhelming iPhone 14 Pro and 15 pro.

To be honest the better camera is the only decent advantage from that list. I have a 13 Pro Max personal phone and a 14 Pro as a works phone and Dynamic Island is ok but not really a meaningful upgrade. The always on display is something I disable too as soon as I set the phone up.

Having a good camera is the best update, however the camera on the 13 is still pretty good. I think the fact 3 years down the line the decision to upgrade is still a difficult one is testament to how long these iPhones are good for. Makes the justification a lot more difficult and that for me is good from a consumer point of view.
