Wife and I both have 12PM and I am still not sure that this is the year. She had her battery replaced under AppleCare and I had a full hardware swap, so we don't even have the degrading battery excuse. My wife takes a metric **** ton of photos, so a camera upgrade might be something she could use, but for me and my wallet I don't see any driver to crack it open for $2500+ for a pair.

I currently have the iPhone 13PM in Alpine Green for 2 years now. It's my favorite iPhone so far and still has several years of updates left. I kept my 8 Plus (my previous favorite) for 5 years before I traded up to the 13PM and still got $140.00 towards my 13PM at the Apple store. Not much in the 16PM over the 13PM that is tempting me to upgrade. At this point the 13PM still has 87% battery life, so I'll probably just replace the battery next year, put on a new case and screen protector, give it a new wallpaper, do a full reset, and keep it for a few more years. In the mean time the 13PM takes great pictures and videos, plays any music I want to hear, lets me watch tv shows and movies, makes and takes phone calls, surfs the web, and gets and sends messages and emails.;)

The iPhone 16 Pro is set to succeed 2023's iPhone 15 Pro, introducing over 30 new features and improvements to Apple's high-end smartphones. With many users adopting three-year upgrade cycles, plenty of iPhone 13 Pro owners will be looking to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro, so this guide breaks down every major difference you should be aware of between the two generations based on rumors.

The ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro debuted in 2021, introducing a brighter display with ProMotion technology for refresh rates up to 120Hz, the A15 Bionic chip, a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, macro photography and photographic styles, Cinematic mode for recording videos with shallow depth of field, ProRes video recording, a 1TB storage option, and up to five hours of additional battery life.

Three years later, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to offer over 65 further upgrades. All of the changes the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature compared to their 2021 predecessors are listed below, using information from reliable sources that we have previously covered here on MacRumors. Interesting. I think this article is trying to say "hold on to that 13 Pro for one more year!". Will do, Mac Rumors!

I upgraded to the 13 only for the reason that my phone was old. I don't use the camera that much and only use the phone mostly for alerting for mail and credit card stuff. No reason for me to upgrade as the 13 Pro does everything I need it to do.

My 12PM is at like 63% battery health and I've started taking a lot more photos and videos since I bought it, so both the better camera and the action button appeal to me. My 12PM is also my last lightning device, everything else I own is USB-C at this point. I also like the increased form factor as I have cartoonishly long thumbs.

So, I think I'll probably end up grabbing the 16PM, unless "Apple Intelligence" is wildly intrusive as I am a dyed-in-the-wool AI hater, in which case I'll just get a 15PM.

I have a 11 Pro Max with a face id that doesn't work. (broken sensor, not worth repair cost). I'm guessing yes, it's worth an upgrade. (I plan on buying some phone in the next few months, but I'll wait to December before I decide.)

I’m holding an iphone 12 bought right after launch w/ 88% battery health now. Given that I came from a 6S before that, next year is going to be when I will contemplate for a new phone. But I guess I will still enjoy the keynote this year🤣

I wish these were written without the marketing hyperbole like surgical grade or aerospace etc.
Those are real designations. But other than looking impressive on the sales sheet, I don't think they really have any bearing on the durability of the device.

My 13 Pro Max is at 86% battery capacity so I'll be waiting for the 17, if not the 18.

I'm looking for a second phone, but I'm hoping to find a unicorn of a deal.

I have said it and will keep saying again.
Some of these are not upgrades but should rather be called changes.
Squared-off edges vs contour edges comes to mind as it is purely aesthetic or personal preference.
Ring/silent switch vs Action button is definitely debatable.
Don't get me to talk about the ugly colours on the 16 pro.
The 16 pro is thicker is somehow an "upgrade"?

It really bothers me that Apple penalizes users who are willing to spend the money to buy top tier tech but don't want a giant f'in phone. This year the Pro Max gets a larger, more capable main sensor than the Pro. Why??? It's not due to space considerations since every time this happens the upgrade ends up in the regular Pro the following year. C'mon, Apple.

On a different topic, the iPhone 16 Pro gets the satellite connectivity features that don't exist in the 13 Pro. This is a pretty big deal to me as I spend a lot of time in my 20 year old truck exploring places without cell service. This feature alone (with an honorable mention to USB-C) is the sole reason I am upgrading rather than waiting another year for the 17 Pro.

An article for me! Thank you. But it hasn’t convinced me that my 13 Pro is ready to be given up.
Not for the costs involved. Phone plus apple care, case, screen protector etc less trade in value still means a lot of cash to part with.

Im more impressed with the spec sheet of a pixel 9 Pro at this point but hesitate at the switch.

Low light camera improvements is probably the best improvement I can see on that list that the 16 Pro could give me which isn’t saying much really.

Some things are downgrades.

8 Gb of RAM in the pros is absolutely crap... now Apple does need extra ram for the AI. At least 12Gb.
I know I know... what are going to sell next year if they put it 12 on the iPhone16...

This year the Pro Max gets a larger, more capable main sensor than the Pro.
There are controversial rumors. It is unusual for Apple to offer several significant improvements in the same year, and the lens would also have to be adapted to the larger sensor. I'm afraid that both the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will have the same main camera as the 15 Pro this year. The selling points this year are the 48 MP ultra wide lens, capture button, AI and new larger and brighter displays.

I currently am using a 12 Pro Max which is definitely starting to show its age. I will almost surely upgrade to the 16 Pro Max when it's available.
