If you question why the 1TB is necessary, then you're not the targeted demographic for it. So tired of seeing posts about people "not understanding" or stating it's not necessary
Um - I actually asked a question and was curious why people needed that much. Thanks for the great explanation/clarification. That really was helpful.

I really don’t understand the point of 512gb or 1tb (for most people) given that iCloud exists.
The old chestnut .... where everyone has super-speed always-connected unlimited access......

I'll just drag this file down over the airwaves, vs "oh look, there it is, already on my device, right there, available immediately"

Am I the only person who keeps photos both synced in iCloud, and stored in full res on all my Apple devices? Which means I use iCloud more as a means to keep photos synced across my devices and less as a means of saving space.

I can't see how I'd use enough of 1T on an iPhone to make it worth getting it. That's a heck of a lot of space. Mu entire music library is only 210g, which surprises me. I thought it would be larger, but...

Same here, I got in past 5 minutes past, clicked on complete order and as always had to re-enter card info even though supposedly verified 2 days ago on the pre-preorder process. I am getting the ProMax 1TB graphite. It said 9/24, less than minute after entering card info and completing order it slipped to October 6-11. Yes seems they anticipated this color less popular and being the 1TB less orders than the other memory sizes. So much for the pre-preorder process. Apple is batting 50 percent failure for me getting on opening day in past 5 years. A first world problem I know and I can live with it.

I must have chosen the right storage 256GB. I woke up a bit late and placed my order at 8:40 AM EST and it still says 9/24 for me.

Every time I see someone question why people want 1TB ... this has been answered here in these forums over the years by many people including myself. Some people shoot a mega ton of video or photos and some people (like myself) have a massive collection of music (in my case, live music recordings in lossless formats) that is not available in any streaming service and we want as much of it as possible available to listen to while traveling or when data/wifi is not available. The 1TB is not for everyone but clearly as we can see there is a lot of demand for it. I am not surprised in the least that the 1TB are already slipping. I got my 1TB order in right at 8am Eastern time so I look forward to loading up a crap ton of my music collection next Friday.
Why can’t you make do with 8gb? 😂

I’m in the same boat. Shooting 4K video and downloading lossless music takes up a ton of space. I don’t like iCloud Photo Library: I get weird syncing errors, and the thumbnails take too long to load hi res pics. I don’t like the lower quality of music and video over cellular streaming, and streaming music, podcasts and video uses enough cellular data to move me to the ”slowed speed” zone. The cloud doesn’t work well for me. If it does for others, great.

Well I trash talked the event but I still ended up buying a 256GB Pro Max, 😂 I’m a such 🐑. I update every year and trade in my old IPhone
At least you own up to it! That’s actually respectable versus people making up dumb excuses to justify buying something.

How does this optimised storage work exactly? If you put it all optimised will photos in your library be worse quality than if you don’t? I have never truly understood how it worked

Normally you will keep the original format of the picture on your device and iCloud ... if you end up with constained storage space on your device, the "optimise storage" option will replace the original format on your device with a lesser quality "optimised" version suited to your device, that takes up less space than the original. The original remains the original in iCloud

Out of curiosity, how much are you getting back from your trade-ins? Is there not a benefit to Apple's upgrade program?

When it comes to the UK we are second class citizens when it comes to iUP.

I hate that I have to go into store and not do it online. Samsung has a better way of doing it in the UK.

Well at least we all know that the ones that do the trash talking about Apple’s events are the ones that end up buying still. 😂
