The notch doesn't bother me personally since it allows the status icons to be pushed up out of the way but I can see why some people hate it. I don't see the notch changing until Apple can hide it completely behind the screen.

About time Apple picked up the ball with the camera.... can't they approach Leica and poach them from Huawei???
The Leica camera knocks the stuffing out of the iPhone 12 gear.

My take, the 15.4 Mpx image sensor in the Back Wide of the 12 Pro Max goes into the Back Wide of both 12s/13 "Pro" models, AND when officially announced, Apple tells the General Public "at that time" that the resolution has increased !

In other words, both the native iOS Camera App, & third-party Camera Apps, will, AFTER the relevant version of iOS has been Released, have access to the full 15.4 Mpx off this image sensor; currently limited to ONLY 12.2 Mpx, as the ISP currently does Image Stabilization (IS) processing, which takes it down from 15.4 Mpx to 12.2 Mpx.

I'm guessing there will be NO IS at 15.4 Mpx, but that the Capture Rate will be much, much Higher !

Hopefully, 30 fps, which is the Max that Apple offers with 12.2 Mpx.

Actually, would love to see 15.4 Mpx @ 60 fps with NO IS.

Prefer to have the BIGGEST pixel size, with the Highest Burst Photo Capture Rate.

Combine that with a good Monopod & anybody can Master it.

Don't worry. Apple will release new emojis along with the iPhone 13 that'll be running iOS 15.

Might even get some with next iOS 14 update like with 14.2
I mean yeah, Apple always keeps inline with whatever the unicode consortium releases.

I am a notch hater, but my real problem is not with the notch itself, but the fact that videos and games are played around it. That's very disturbing to me. Dear Apple, can you consider to NOT do that?

Exactly... I don't know why Apple allowed that in games. They should have left the "ears" blacked-out when playing video games.

But I never have the "notch in video" problem when watching videos.

Why? Most of the videos I watch on my phone are 16:9 videos... and they fit nicely in the center of the screen and don't come anywhere near the notch. Even trendy 2:1 videos fit normally.

It's only when you stretch the video that it goes under the notch. But then you are choosing to chop off the top and bottom of the video. I would never do that. (I also don't watch ultra-wide Hollywood movies on my phone... but that's a personal preference... :p )

There's this argument that the notch "takes away" screen real estate. Well... the iPhone is already much taller than the older phones before it. So you're not really "losing" anything. I much prefer the gains I get from the taller screen.

You're getting more vertical real estate in portrait mode than previous phones. And as long as you don't stretch the video... you won't have the notch invading your videos in landscape mode.

But I can understand the frustration in games.

Sidenote: I hate the "Home Bar" and wish it could be removed. I already know how to go "Home" and I don't need the constant reminder in every app... :)

Apple needs to focus on Touch ID. The other feature that would be nice is multi window like you can do on android. It is a nice feature. Not as important as Touch ID

Everything with Apple is incremental to keep you upgrading. How else will they make their billions?
Seriously? You think they slow down innovation so as to make more money? What'choo smokin', Willis?
A better battery = larger battery = the regular iPhone.
Sometimes you cannot cheat physics.
This is true. A lot of people get their minds blown when they realize that all batteries, being chemical/electrical devices, are analog in nature.
You guys and this notch fettish.

I never noticed or cared about the damn thing until users here started in on it.

I was never bothered by it.
I did like the "notch family" commercial, though. That was funny as sht!
It's 2021 now, so enough with the notch FFS.
Yeah, people keep on with that to the point of distraction. They'll always find SOME supposedly great reason to not make a purchase.
I don’t even notice the notch anymore because when I scroll on my phone, the content I’m focused on is in the center of my screen. But any improvement is welcome.
I know, right? What do people do, scroll the content so that it appears in the notch? What for, so they can get all righteous and angry?
Same for me and that's why a smaller notch doesn't do anything for me.
Me too. Oh sure, a smaller notch would be better, but puh-lease, I'm not sitting around complaining about the notch as though I think Apple is trying to insult me.

Now, Apple is indeed trying to "off" me. Or at least Siri is. If she and Alexa ever go into cahoots together, then I'll surely be a dead duck! Quack! 🦆

Yeah, Apple will milk the notch out another 5-7 years. They have no other design after that. I like the design of the air and pro though. No notch all one clean square.
I’d like to think they’ll experiment with curved glass and folding phones, but once they eliminate the notch and the bezels as much as possible they’ll have essentially reached the ultimate version of the iPhone design.

That’s because of the thick bezel that the iPad Pro has. Apple did say that the iPhone X form factor would be around for a decade at least, so your 5-7 year estimate sounds about right.

My iPhone XS got damaged just when the 12 came out and I am glad I am spending these pandemic times with a bargain SE2. Hope the 13 pro will be worth the wait (and has Touch ID/ProMotion).

Well there we have it; I just upgraded to the 12 Max Pro and a new watch. Yes, the hardware to hang it on a wall is about $5,500, payable directly to Tim Cook. :p

But I am syncing the new phone now as I write this, and so far so good. I like being able to put the new phone next to the old phone and let them commisserate. Much nicer for me than trying to do backups and restores using cables and iTunes.

Yes , I stopped using physical backups years ago on all my ios devices - iCloud is miles better than all those silly hard disks and cables .. yawn. Amazing how things have progressed in just a few short years

After launching the notch-less iPhone X, there are still tons of new design and it's not even close to being the end of phone design 🤦‍♂️🏻

There are even aftermarket screen design for the iPhone X. 🤫
