I honestly don't know what would be better

FaceID with the notch or TouchID on side but no notch.

FaceID is incredibly convenient when you don't have a mask on. It's so seamless and makes so many things a breeze. I love it for those reasons. But I quite dislike the notch. Could I sacrifice the ultra convenience of FaceID for TouchID on the side of the phone? Perhaps.........

It's good that they are making it shallower instead of less wide. The depth is the real issue I think. It takes too big a chunk out of too many things.

Phone in pocket, reach into pocket, thumb naturally falls upon the home button which I can feel, remove phone from pocket and place directly upon the NFC card reader. Listen for beep, and put phone directly back into pocket.

The single lowest friction, most perfect technological and ergonomic achievement in the entire history of Apple.

I've watched people do NFC payments with FaceID - nope, that's clownshoes.
