How about a 13 Mini with touch ID, 6 GB RAM, all-day battery life, and the cameras of the 12 Pro Max? Is that too much to ask?

I’m loving my 12 mini but make the 13 pro tempting enough and I might bite... A smaller notch would certainly be a small amount of extra motivation.

Can someone please update me on something I'm a little confused about.

I recall years ago, when the old iPhone, perhaps the 4 ? had squared off edges, there were complaints about it not being easy to pick up off the table.

Then 1 or 2 models/years later Apple changed to a rounded edge design, which I strongly recall at the time pretty much everyone loved, and many posts about this love for the more comfortable rounded shape, and also the fact it was not much easier to pick up off the table (as I guess your nails could get underneath the sides a little)

But now we're gone back to this squared design, and again people are posting how they love it.

I hope you can understand my confusion on this point, and why the design, and people's love is flip flopping between there two designs.

Logically I would imagine a rounder edge, would be the best as, it's easier to pick up and nicer to hold as your fingers wrap around it. After all there is a reason why all things designed to be held are smooth and rounded for comfort.

So why the new love for what, in theory is a worse design? Puzzled.

The square design is less slippery

I never understood why Apple just doesn't make the case that much thicker thus eliminating the hideous camera bump. They could cram in more battery.
Weight is also an issue. I’m obsessed with battery life and want as much as I can get. I wouldn’t have an issue with the extra thickness you suggest but I would want to try it for weight. Maybe it would be OK but that would be my possible concern and that’s from battery-obsessed me. Lots of other people already complain about the weight of the Pro Max so at least at that top end I suspect that Apple might consider that it has pushed the weight to the limit it can get away with before it alienates too many customers.

Upgrading every two years seems to me to be the way to go- just went from the X to the 12. Don’t really care about the notch. And hopefully we won’t need Touch ID well before the 13 comes out...

I can’t help but upgrade every year Lol. Barely costs anything for me to do so from just selling the old phone.

It’s my most used device by far so even if the improvements are incremental I just want to be up to date.

TouchID isn’t going to appear in the sleep/wake button: virtually all cases for the 12 series, including every case from Apple, cover the physical buttons.

It’ll be under the screen when it does arrive.

Can we just stop with the ****ing comments about the notch. I never notice the dang thing. You people with your continued comments about the notch kill me. You have nothing else to do with you time. As I type this blistering email. I’m not even looking at the tip 50% of my phone screen.
Calm down bro. If you're going to go on a rant here, at least realize your commenting, not emailing lol. I don't even own an iPhone, but I could see why people complain about the notch. If it was just a bezel all the way people probably wouldn't complain but the notch is just there IN the screen real estate which it doesn't need to be. It's like the touch bar, some people don't like it, some do. If there are enough comments to drive you nuts about the notch then maybe you should begin to realize it's a legitimate concern for ALOT of people. The majority doesn't need to conform for the minority... (Unless it's American Politics apparently.)

I really like the design of the iPhone 12 - It’s very similar to the iPhone 4 design with the metal sides so I’m glad that Apple is keeping it the same for the iPhone 13

Also looking forward to the new features that will be added next year to go along with an improved camera
Funny, for me it's the other way around. Starting from my first iPhone 4S in 2011 I changed my phones for a new one every 2 years. Last one I bought in 2018 - XS Max. In 2020 I specifically didn't swap phones because the new phone is a piece of trash. Apple is one of the richest companies in the world, they couldn't figure out something new for a design of their flagship product and instead reused their own design from 10 years ago? That's pathetic and I won't reward them for it. Plus, aside from 5g support there is very much nothing on the new phone that deserves $1K+ price. So I'll be using my old phone for another year and possibly 2 if they don't make something different on the next design.

Yeah I’m good. I’m fine with the current thickness and battery life. Unless they’re doing this to include the Max optics in the Pro model I’ll be keeping the 12 for another year.

Maybe, but my experience with iPhone 12 Pro max was extremely poor, when 5G Auto was enabled my phone lost 40% of battery life with screen turned off in 5min.
Wow was it that bad? My husband and I opted not to get new SIM cards and upgrade to the 5G service so we’re using our regular service. Of course battery life has been excellent. I’m also mostly on WiFi at home. I’m glad we didn’t attempt to make any changes after all. Of course we were curious, but decided to stay as we are.

But you drop another 700-1000$ on a new iphone..
Yeah. I’m already spending enough money on a new phone. I would at least like to keep my expensive case for another year.

I used the same case for my 4 & 4S. And same case for my 5 and 5S. Same case for my 6 and 6s. Same case for my X and XS.

I couldn’t use my 11 Pro Max case on the 12 Pro Max so I’m hoping to squeeze another year out of my current case. It makes perfect sense.

Digitimes and Mac Otakara are so low on rumours and accuracy...lets stick with bloomberg and Kuo
They said in February 2020 last year that notch will be smaller on the pro models ....yea right

digitimes’s accuracy is so-so but I definitely agree with Mac okatara, they’re accuracy is so low it’s surprising that they are making these claims

especially when they have been more wrong compared to most of the competition who predicts these things

Mac Okatara also claimed that Apple would release a 4G version of the iPhone 12 a couple of months ago and yeah there isn’t one

not just kuo but others like Ross young and heck even Prosser

Yes. And then they talk about the size of the ****ing notch. It kills me. Before the notch there was weaker technology. Introduce the notch and people spend endless hours talking about the size of the notch...no notch, etc. they are killing me. Look at what we have in smartphone technology and shut the **** up. Imagine if we had a negative notch size? Someone would find away to complain why the notch was negative 6 mm wide.
You seem to have this inherent hate for people who don't like the notch. Why does it bother you? You are on a forum which people comment about their opinions and believe it or not, everyone's allowed to have on. You know you don't actually have to read every post in its entirety and are free to just skip ones you don't like right?

The square design is less slippery

Thanks.
I must ask though. Would this not be more to do with how slippery the material it's made from?
I mean, a screwdriver any many other things are all rounded, but they are nice and grippy.
