Isn't 6E more about short-range speed, not longer ranges? Unless I'm mistaken the 6Ghz band is great if you're near the router, but not much else. Something I'd want more in a laptop or gaming PC.
Lower propgation means it’s far better for those living in apartments. Coupled with beam forming it’s also useful to bounce signals off of surfaces. Plus with 7 160MHz wide channels available there’s far less congestion compared to 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

Good they include it but I think nearly 99% do not have the compatible router to use this feature.
Should they not have included 802.11ac or 5GHz bands either? These routers are about to start becoming the norm very quickly. This seems like a poorly thought out and short sighted statement.

6 GHz doesn’t improve range, as radio waves suffer more propagation loss at higher frequencies. The 2.4 GHz band actually has the most range. 6 GHz will be cool because there are less users on the band, meaning less interference, and a much better signal to noise ratio. 2.4 GHz is very crowded, and plus the channel widths are much much lower than 5 and 6 GHz, that’s why the 2.4 GHz is slower. But the signal is stronger over a long range.

Also, WiFi7 80211.be will be a beast. I am excited for that. For example, they will have the ability to transmit and receive via aggregated frequencies: you will be able to send/receive Wi-Fi data (simultaneously) over 2.4, 5, and 6Ghz. No Wi-Fi system does that today; they all need a dedicated frequency for uplink/downlink. There will also be up to 320 MHz channels, compared to the max 160 MHz of today. I am looking forward to Wi-Fi 7!

Still using 802.11g for my “intranet” at home. Great range, why upgrade?

Put your money where your mouth is, what feature of the iPhone 12 series is not the latest and greatest? I’ll wait.
What apple phones did not have the latest and greatest? Really? You want a list of features that were late to the game? Try 3G? LTE? 5G? OLED? Let’s start there.

This is unlike Apple. AC did not come to Apple until AC was well established. There are barely any 6E routers out there. It will be interesting if this indeed is included. With the iP13 being more a iP12S, perhaps Apple is trying to give a few more reasons for folks to upgrade. Time will tell. It could be just a case of whoever they get their wifi chips from are just including 6E as standard and hence Apple is just inheriting the upgrade.

Due to T-Mo Magenta Max I haven't used WiFi in months. Getting 70-100 down and 30 up on my 5g. This will help me keep my 12 for another year.

Future-proofing is nice, though. (Plus, it still helps if you're roaming.)

I really care more about the improved range than the speed. I rarely find the speed of Wi-Fi to be a limiting factor.
Wi-Fi 6E will have worse range since it operates at 6 GHz instead of 2.4 or 5 GHz like Wi-Fi 6. You'll still have the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands available but they won't be any different than they are today on Wi-Fi 6 gear.

Unrelated but if apple would stop dragging their feet and actually make an iPhone that looked like that (slimmer bezels) I would upgrade from the 12 pro.

This is shaping up to be a potentially expensive year for me.

My OG iPhone SE is getting long in the tooth and starting to encounter battery life and storage limits, so I'm seriously considering an iPhone 13 Pro upgrade.

My Fitbit is also starting to decline in battery life after 4+ years, and as things start to open up again, I want to get back to swimming, and could use a new fitness tracker/smartwatch. The WATCH series 7 is looking pretty appealing.

My 2017 MacBook Pro is due for an upgrade.

My current WiFi setup kind of sucks. I'm using a power line adapter and a secondary router to give me extra reach to the far side of my house, but its old walls make WiFi spotty and unreliable with a lot of interference from neighbouring networks. I don't necessarily need more speed, but I do want a more reliable connection, so a 6E mesh network would also be a really nice upgrade.

As long as it doesn’t create problems for the 99% with older routers.

Of course range is better than speed.

Most people I know don't even have a 5 GHz network and are still stuck with 2,4 GHz.

There are brand new homekit devices being sold that can’t even first-time connect to your network unless you temporarily disable 5GHz. Going to be a long time before 6E saturates the market enough to be helpful.
