This is disappointing. I have a 12 mini with 256gb storage. To upgrade my phone to a 13 mini, I have to downgrade my storage?
Apple wants you to spend more on the Pro instead.
The pandemic is ending, so Apple thinks you should have more money now to give to them.

2021 with 64GB base storage for a flagship is downright embarrassing. And no option for 256GB is an obvious money grab to force people to spend more money for the Pro models.

Maybe Apple should go back to 16GB if the cost is so much burdensome for them.
Or better yet, don't include a NAND flash chip at all. The entire OS can be loaded into ROM with a small non-user accessible flash chip for system updates. Apple will obviously not do that but that's an option.

Heck, Apple could've introduced a thin client of some sort and introduce a cloud-based OS that, where basic firmware will be loaded into ROM, the entire iOS is remotely connected to those devices. And they can still charge $2000 for such a device and people are still going to buy it no matter what.

It's almost as if Apple is trying to botch their non-pro line. An $800 phone should have more than 64 GB base storage.

No it doesn’t tbh most people don’t need 512. Wouldn’t be opposed to 256
I have agreed with this type of comment for many years. I am hardly a pro user despite buying pro devices.

However, I respectfully disagree with this comment here in September 2021.

I have a 128GB IPhone 12 Pro that I shot a video just yesterday and my phone capped out cutting me off.

Having the pro, and wanting to turn on all the features as I should to watch on my awesome LG OLED (4K, 60fps, HDR). I basically shot 20 mins and my drive was full.

Phone cost me nearly $2000aud, has no memory card and I’m in the first year of ownership as a light to moderate user.

And please don’t tell me to shoot in 720p, 30fps for efficient memory performance. I would buy a $100 android if I wanted that and not own an expensive iPhone and OLED 4k tv to watch it on.

No, I think it’s time for non extendable memory to match the Equipment.

I feel for those people that actually use this thing regularly to shoot videos.

I’m also using an iPhone X - this thing is 4 years old and has 256GB!! Cmon apple - don’t pull this now..
As Apple fans we happily pay the most because we expect the best.

Incorrect. Apple is all about upselling. Apple would be more than happy to botch their non-pro line if it means people buy more of the more expensive Pro line. Upsell, upsize.

I like my sons idea.... flat black back, and the metal bezel around the sides chrome black. That would be sharp looking.

The only reason I can think of to explain why Apple would drop the 256GB versions of the iPhone 13 and 13 mini would be to push a good number of consumers toward the 13 Pro. I guess Apple was disappointed with the sales of the 12 Pro. As for the colors, I haven’t seen the bronze color yet, but I’m sure a good number of people will be disappointed that the pacific blue color will no longer be available. I’m glad I have mine.

Lol at Apple selling a 900+ eur phone with 64 gb, the audacity, not even budget android phones come with that amount of memory anymore, I hope it isn't true, but it wouldn't surprise me THAT much

Hmmm..... I was dead set against bronze.....but the more I see it the more its growing on me.......
I'll probably still play safe with white/silver though..... lol

In terms of storage, Im thinking the Pro models will start at 256GB, and then offer 512GB and 1TB options.

Shame the blue looks to be replaced.

I was also liking the graphite.

At least the white/silver is staying. That is the underappreciated color of the lot.

guys I’m right there with you all!

if I could fully vent how I’m feeling with this news/rumours I’d be banned for certain.

this is insulting! Also … keep in mind the former rumor last week that ALL 12 series will be marked legacy meaning production will or has been stopped!

I’m due to switch carriers end of this month so I may pickup another 12 mini 256GB in Blue on contract for cheaper pricing, IF this rumor holds true on storage sabotage.

whomever is in charge at Apple making this decision I want to out on my 11” Catapillar steel toe boots and wind up a field goal kick to their nads !

but oh well get new colours while keeping blue?!

this is forcing me to go 13 Pro as a thought.

I’m praying there is a limited production release initially and thus storage option is shown here.

that said THIS will mark the very FIRST TIME Apple has released a brand new iPhone model, with lower storage options that the previous year!

mom hoping this is BS and a feeler! Peeps make yourselves heard!

You’re not being forced into anything.

Vote with your wallet. Don’t make threats to “kick” Apple employees.

Just keep your 12 mini another year.

I was thinking about that... in this case they would seem like they are chasing a trend..
Ha. I noticed this as well. Pink is already poppin. And usually if, Apple hits on colors that aren’t trending until they step in. So yeah, if true, this would be a bit different. Good call. ;)

Guys Chill.

This is a RUMOR. Until next week nothing is confirmed. For the past few days/months the rumor has been a 1TB option!
Best just wait for the announcement next week, then you can vent and moan all you want!

Ugh.. if true that’s torn it for me, 256 is getting tight for me and I’m not interested in the big phones at all - I was tempted to upgrade to the 13 mini and give my fiancée the 12 mini, bugger.

If I go for the Pro then it’ll be the black model that I’ve been after since iPhone 7 jet black.

got the silver iPhone 12 Pro right now so like to switch from dark to light each year since the 3GS.

128gb is just enough but I’d prefer 256gb but Apple are tight and very cheap with these things.

I’ll also see what the pixel 6 is like before committing again after the recent months of Apple shenanigans
