I have 22,343 photos and videos on my phone, it could be cleaned up a bit, but I keep full versions on my phone, in the very rare case that iCloud shuts down or something happens, I have a full backup of all my pictures. Most of the images are from before heiv(would love to convert them all, but all the apps to do that lose a lot of the metadata).
Ahh, that would be a good usecase.

I also have a massive library (35K photos and videos) but I use optimize storage on my phone, because I keep full versions on my Mac instead. The Mac is also easier for backing up and managing that quantity of data.

Grrr… I’ve been eyeing that 13 mini, but really don’t want the reduced storage.

I think Apple mistakenly believes the mini is a lower cost option, but I don’t mind paying the same price for the smaller form factor.

They keep sabotaging the mini. The 12 mini was overpriced, and now the 13 mini is intentionally hobbled (if true).

Then they wonder why its sales are low, but proclaim nobody wants smaller phones.
I’m disappointed but not that conspiratorial about it. Apple wouldn't make a crappy phone just to justify not having to make a crappy phone. There’s only so much space inside it, and if they used more for memory people would be complaining about the battery. I’d love a 3-lens camera system too. I just really like the small size, but storage volume is one spec on which I can’t compromise that much. Ah well.

I'm just wondering what the use cases are for people who want 512GB and 1TB iPhones. Are ya'll storing copies of every movie you like or something?
My iTunes library is half a TB. Moving music in and out of phone is not fun, and I can’t really predict what I want to listen to in the next moment.

Having those photo offset from local storage seems good on paper, until I need to show a photo to someone else and it is being downloaded but signal is bad so it takes forever.

Agreed. I’ve got a 128GB 12 Pro Max and I’ve only used 90GB with sideloaded emulators full of large roms. Most people are streaming music, etc these days. And with offloading unused apps/music storage isn’t as needed as it once was.
Most US users maybe, but that’s still a stretch. Outside of US, unlimited data plan is still the minority. It is not fun to have hundreds of GB being wasted at downloading random image, downloading podcasts, watching movies etc. Also I just can’t trust cloud storage to secure my personal files. Syncing is ok. Completely off the local storage? No.

Well since all of this is based on e-commerce sites in the Ukraine, and one of them shows a 512 gb option for the 13 mini, I’ll hope for the best here. We will know in a few days. I’m pleasantly surprised purple will still be an option…allegedly.

All Apple devices should start at 256GB at this point, but especially for “Pro” versions of devices. This would make the low-end devices equal across the board. All the Macs start at 256, so Pro phones and Pro iPads should start there as well. This would make the extra cost of those devices truly meaningful. It’s past time minimum storage on devices should barely be a consideration for supposedly “Pro” branded devices.

I’ve never understood why people care what the bottom end of the line offers. I really want 512GB or more in my device, but I don’t care if they also sell a 64GB device or even a storage free version.

I don’t understand why people fixate on trying to eliminate configurations they wouldn’t buy anyway…. It makes much more sense to me to focus on what you need than on what you don’t.

Can APPLE donate a portion of the sales from the PINK iPhone For Cancer?

I have Cancer.

STEVE JOBS would LOVE this.
actually jobs was notorious for keeping charity a very private matter. which is a good thing.

Last year I was overjoyed that they started selling a nearly small phone again.

Now I'm satisfied, this year I can once again be indignant that Apple may not be catering for my exact desires for a 256GB iPhone mini.

Cosmic balance has once again been restored.

No 256GB option? Are you kidding me?
I seriously doubt this rumor. I cannot think of a single time Apple has eliminated a higher tier storage option from one year to the next, unless it was to replace it with an even larger storage option.

No it doesn’t tbh most people don’t need 512. Wouldn’t be opposed to 256
Ahhh the “ I speak for everyone “ comment

if you don’t need it then it’s fine but don’t sound like others are lying

also this isn’t 2009 any more. Many average users take more photos and videos and even do editing now also do lots of work on the phones you sound like those ppl who still think we are in the past

Yes they can use iCloud. They can use NAS and stuff but hey it’s not too “crazy” to demand higher storage given the price of them and the price of the phone

From my view: There are not enough bigger storage size options for the nonpros given today's camera needs.
On a positive note: Without the pre installed search database more usable storage will be left for me.

Or should they intend to keep us in need of iCloud by intentionally sizing the storage too small?

Agreed. Better news would be Apple increasing the default size for unpaid iCloud storage, and then bumping up the paid tiers as well.

Long term storage on the device itself is begging for a catastrophic loss. Keeping media in the cloud is a great option, Apple just needs to sweeten the pot a little.
I think they do need to look at the iCloud storage options as well. I am on a family plan with four people, and the 2TB option will need to be evaluated in the next few years.
