That's really annoying. The notch is only slightly smaller and thus the percentage indicator doesn't really fit. It was the thing I missed the most when FaceID was added. I hope they at least add the alarm icon so that I don't have to swipe down to check.

I don’t need the battery icon, just replacing it with the battery percentage would be great. This is not anywhere close to “switching to Android” level, but I’m disappointed by how Apple has done nothing to utilise Pro Max’s spacious display, like an upscale suite with minimal furniture.

The notch doesn't mind me at all. It never has. I don't tend to have anything important that high on the screen, or that far to the left when used in landscape.

That doesn't mean I would be opposed to removing it. But after seeing the latest Samsung phones in person with their solution having the front facing camera behind the screen while making the screen resolution hiding the hole for it far lower resolution compared to the rest of the screen is more distracting to me compared to simply having the notch.

iOS doesn't put anything behind the notch. Every app I use and whatnot takes into consideration that the notch is there so nothing is being obscured or anything. Android on the Samsung phone doesn't behave in this way, at least not on their latest model where they have tried to hide the hole by having a lower resolution screen in front of it. This creates problems as I end up with actual content that I'm looking at being affected by the lower resolution so the hole is actually affecting my content in a direct way. I find this to be worse compared to what Apple is doing which is basically designing iOS and apps to never put anything at the top so it becomes obfuscated by the notch.

I do find this iteration rather meaningless. If it's going to be 28% smaller why don't they make it so that it shrink equally in all directions? Why make it slimmer, but taller? And why make it slimmer if you are not going to use the additional space at the top for showing battery percentage etc? We get more space at the sides of the notch, but it's not going to be used for anything? Then I would be better of by it staying the same width instead of becoming slightly taller as that actually extends into areas where I normally have content.

Seems like such a pointless change. I suppose it's because of manufacturing? The new camera array is taking up additional space, so they had to redesign the face ID module to make room for the new camera array otherwise the phone would have to become bigger?

Hopefully, this means iOS 15.1 or whatever is going to actually utilise the additional space in some way or the other.

😂 How lazy can one get. You swipe down to see the control center and there is the battery percentage. Takes like one second.

I don’t even care about seeing battery percentage until it goes into power save mode. Then I just swipe down and look in control center when ever I want. One second is all it takes …
No, sorry. I have to switch to Android now.

How exactly do those 10% affect you?
Nobody says that affects someone
Just kind of shows that apple didnt do anything tech improvements, they move the speaker on top and thats it, not even , like i said, an extra icon for the extra space in width, so not even on software level effort

How lazy can Apple software team get? Every unnecessary gesture/step is bad design, period.

So the notch is smaller by 28% in width but 10% increase in height ?! ok, at least give us more icons there, since you made that from the start an "visible and informative area"
Agreed, I would like the status icons next to the notch on my iPhone to look like a boomer's Mac OS dock which contains all icons from every app they've ever installed so each icon is like a pixel wide. Or if they use Windows, like their status tray which has so many icons that they take up half the screen in width and make the Start Bar take up an extra row just to see them all. Information is power and icons are information

I don't think it matters, no? I mean we're no longer in the age where 30-40% of battery means the phone could die at any moment. And there's the auto warning for low power mode once you reach 20%. Besides, it diminishes that battery anxiety.
I agree. The little battery image gives me a decent estimate of capacity. While it doesn't have the same "resolution" or specificity of a percentage, it gives me a good enough idea. Knowing the percentage immediately doesn't add much value to me. Though I agree it should be an option to have the battery indicator OR the percentage for those who prefer to have a 100 point resolution in battery percentage.

I doubt there will ever be a Samsung Dex-like feature. Apple wants you to buy an iPad instead. It's not about what the device can do, it's about getting more money from customers.

Apple Pencil can be a maybe, as now they bring Promotion to the iPhone Pros. Maybe on future iPhones or when Apple finally do a foldable Ultra Max iPhone... :D
I'd give my left nut for a dex-like feature. That would have been one of the few things to motivate me to upgrade from my 12 Pro Max. I don't have a personal computer anymore, just two work-issued computers. Which means, that for personal stuff I don't want snooped by my employer (like job hunting for example haha) I'm stuck with my phone or my iPad. Having the option to hook up my phone to a monitor/keyboard/mouse for a poor-man's Mac Mini experience would be awesome!

I wonder if there will be a time when Apple does a Keynote and there aren’t ridiculous complaints by people to which these same People preorder the moment the store opens on preorder day.

I agree with the person you quoted on your comment. I can't remember the last time I reached for the battery % on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. Kind of pointless, since I very rarely, if ever, fall to the lower part of battery %. That being said, an option for the ones who like to see it would be great, so I understand your point.
It's pretty important for the 12 mini.
