iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5S and SE1 are peak iPhone design.
IMO, after that, the phones slowly started getting unnecessarily complex because of features that they had to add to stay competitive, like all the cameras, larger screens, faceID.

My iPhone 5 was my absolute favourite. And now they are just ridiculous.

Makes the iPhone 13 Pro Max look like a child. That camera hump is a monster but then again larger sensors required which means more physical space. However this does not beat the size of my Canon 5D Mark IV SLR :)

5% from last year maybe - considerably more from the 11pro, which to me (normal user) is fine. This is a huge area I have in the back of my mind has to be kept protected - not to mention clean. Time to take a pic - better get out my squeegee.

Is this supposed to zoom more? If not I just don’t see myself upgrading this year either. If I wanted to take better quality shots I’d buy a camera.

I understand what they are doing I’m just not sold yet. I’d rather have a new larger iMac than a bigger camera bump.

You're going to want that quality in 25 years when you've got a 20K display ?

Depending on the price difference I would just get the 14 Max.. especially if it has the wide angle.

Will be lighter as well due to aluminum.

The fixation on the camera system is starting to make the phone look grotesque. Maybe consolidating all the lenses into one big circular frame might be a better look than the three burners.

Yes, If they made an all screen device with SE1 body that would be the perfect iphone design. The mini is the closest to perfection, minus the camera bump and slight bigger chassi size. But from a aesthetic perspective, and since we will have to deal with the bump for the foresseable future, I think the 13mini is the one with the more "natural camera bump" from the recently lineup, the proportions seens to fit the device perfectly not being too big or too small, When I look to the 11 inside a case it feels really weird with the big device and small camera square.

Over the years, I have met many people who swear by Pixel or Samsung cameras. I suppose there is a market for the folks who would buy a phone by (perceived) camera quality. I think Apple is trying to include them.

I agree that iPhone 4 was a significant change. I was happy with iPhone X too.

This camera bloat has got to stop at some point, right? It's already a bit out of control. Maybe split the line so the Pro has the huge camera bump but the standard iPhone models go back to a more reasonable sized camera?
It’ll probably stop right after people stop wanting to take pictures with their phones. Which, I guess, might be any day now? :)

Camera's are limited by the laws of physics.

You can either have a small worse camera, or larger bump with better camera, take your pick.

That's also why the MacBook cameras are so ******, because they have to be designed into the very thin lid.
I don't think apple trying enough TBH, they used to break those barriers and not compromise like this.
For example, the MacBook Air design was a myth and unachievable in 2010 and then S.J took it out of an envelope.

Seeing the size of that camera bump, I’m starting to think we’re not getting a mini this year not because of lackluster sales, but because engineers can’t fit that camera array on a mini form factor anymore.
Maybe we’ll get a mini again (or normal sized phones) once they manage to miniaturize the camera and get the same quality of photos.

After switching to the SE3 this year I’m using the iPhone more than I have in years, and I doubt I’ll ever go back to one of these larger phones. It took about a day to adjust to the smaller display, but now my old 11 seems gigantic in comparison.

I get that everyone has different needs and priorities—I was definitely in the “it’s probably going to be too small” camp when I made the switch—but I absolutely love having an iPhone again that’s so lightweight and comfortable to hold.

Why don't they stop this 'Pro Max' and just call it 'Ultra' in line with their other branding. Your regular consumers who aren't Apple nerds are struggling to know the product structure at this stage. I guess the prices give a clue, but still, point stands.
Your regular consumers point and say “that one”. You can TRY to tell them “The name is ‘iPhone 14 Pro Max’” but they’d already be yelling ‘neeeeeerrrrrrrd’ before you got it out.

maybe we’re going to see a split of camera from phone in a few years (like it used to be).

People will decide “this phone is stupid. The camera is huge and bulky. I just want to easily carry my cellphone without the camera getting caught on my pants and purse all the time”

They’re growing the camera right out the housing of the phone.

Congrats to all the people that continued to complain about the camera all these years. You just couldn't leave well enough alone and have an acceptable camera on your phone then if you wanted to have AMAZING photos go out and buy a dedicated camera. You wanted a camera instead of a phone and this what we're getting. I blame all you phone photographers for this who probably still don't realize it's the conditions & photographer that make a photo great not the camera. I know people that can take better photos on an SE than I can on my 13 PM...

I wish there was a Pro phone for non-photographers who don't obsess over megapixels so we could use it without the god-awful, annoying camera bump without a case.
