Strange seeing as the Pro Max model is the most expensive product and potentially less desirable to their core market. Or is this deliberate to create hype at launch? Apple does love a supply shortage story for their marketing every single year without fail, let’s be honest.

I used to want the latest and greatest iPhone every year then every two years since the X series.

I had the XS and adored it, but wanted something a little smaller to got the 12 mini but battery life was a real issue along with 5g being pretty much unnecessary.

Went the opposite way and bought a refurbished 11 pro which only cost around £400 earlier this year for the 512gb model to allow for loads of Apple Lossless audio saved on device. I love that I didn’t pay through the nose and have the nice rounded edges and smaller size than the newer pro’s. I’m going to stick with this phone as long as possible now as it’s been amazing so far.

Maybe it’s because I’m in my mid 30’s now, I’m just not as fussed about the latest and greatest, opting now for better design language and value.

Probably no one cares, but I thought I’d share my experience. 😊
I used to upgrade every year, but I stopped that trend with the X. It’s been about every 2 years if I feel the upgrade is worthwhile or whenever my phone is paid off.

I will say that I don’t miss the rounded edges of my X/11 Pro (I don’t use a case on my phones). I had to upgrade just before the 2 years because my 11 Pro was totaled and I don’t have an Apple Store or authorized service provider in my city. It was going to take 3-5 business days to get it replaced under AppleCare so I just upgraded and sold it when I got it back. Squared edges are definitely a bit easier to deal with on a larger phone. They actually help the grip a bit. I also have a MagSafe pop socket which helps a lot too.

Got a few years on the 13 mini, exactly what I’ve wanted since 2016. Hopefully a similar option will materialise in future

I guess I'll be keeping my iPhone 12 mini for a while and then get a iPhone 13 mini when they still have it in stock. I'm gonna ride the old mini train for as long as I can because it looks like Apple's given up on it 😢 I have small hands and the mini is perfect for me. Fits my pocket perfect, I can easily type on it, doesn't weight much etc.

As I was one of the dinosaurs who had a ridiculous useless tiny Tracfone specific android before this that was absolutely useless for anything but making calls, I instantly took to the size of my 12 pro max and wouldn't want anything smaller. If it fits in my pocket that's all I need. And I do watch movies on the thing. So I will be preordering asap. And I can tell you as often as I have to charge the thing I'm glad to have the larger battery.

But then I must have have large hands....:p

Because all people care about when spending money is, "what's my monthly payment?" The pro is only a few dollars extra so they will go for it.
I work for a fruit company and I can confirm this is 100% accurate. A very small percentage of people (at least in my region) pay for an iPhone outright.

The rumor mill around the 14 Max started up right toward the end of my time with my XR. It looked nice and I'm sure the camera will be a decent leap forward, but given that I hardly use the camera as most "Pros" do, there's nothing else there that was worth waiting for IMO (and so I went for a 13 Pro Max)

And the same goes for any high end phone. If the manufacture offers 0% interest with 24 monthly payments, you take it. That’s free money. Google does the same with their phones and I always go with the best phones just because of the payments.

I wish the zoom camera was not restricted to the Pro models. I find the zoom very handy for capturing good photos of my kids. But I don't care about any other Pro feature.

I understand what you say and it makes a lot of sense, but many people (like me) always buy their phones outright, so the price has to be a consideration. Actually I'd be interested to know the split between monthly payment and outright purchase customers, ideally by country. Who can tell me?

It might be a few dollars extra in America but the monthly payments in the UK for example can be as much as £20 a month more. That’s significant on a monthly contract, otherwise the Pro models would have been much more popular than they have been up until now. There’s a reason the standard devices have been the better sellers previously.

May just upgrade to the 14 Pro Max since it has the 120Hz screen similar to the 13 Pro.
Hesitated on buying the bigger 13 Pro Max so it was sold out when I finally wanted to swap it.
Now may pay a big financial 'penalty' to buy the bigger Pro Max version but at least it should keep for another ~5 yrs or so, so just amortize the cost over the years to ease the financial burden.
Also, anyone who's a business owner already has an excuse to upgrade.. it's a business expense. 😁

Can you write off the 14 Pro Max like a commercial cargo van?

Isn’t the pro the best selling phone? I believe it is isn’t it? I hardly see anyone buying the non pro devices

I doubt it. I see far more non-pro devices than Pro versions. It might be region dependent.

A quick check suggests the standard 13 was the best selling last year. I can’t say I’d be surprised if that’s true considering the price point and size.

I don't understand how so many people want the largest one, even if it's partially inconvenient for the person. Specifically tiny females 5'3" and under trying to use this unwieldy device that is larger than their heads. The .5" screen size difference between the Pro is negligible when you account for the extra weight and size of the Pro Max. Even the regular Pro is almost too big, but I won't sacrifice Pro features for a mini. My hands already start to cramp from holding the 12 Pro for too long because the Pros being made with stainless steel instead of aluminum make them significantly heavier. If I need to do something that requires more screen real estate, .5" isn't much. I would rather jump up to my iPad or computer if that was the case. That was Apple's original issue with going with larger or "hybrid" devices.

I just hope they don't continue the trend of having different features between the Pro and the Pro Max, especially if they are going to add the features to the Pro the following year. It's the same thing with the iPad Pro, but they call both the 11" and the 12.9" iPad Pro. At least the phones have Pro and Pro Max. They should change the name of the iPad Pros to match since the 11" doesn't get the same love that the 12.9" does. It's the only reason I still have a 2018 iPad Pro. I don't like big devices, but that doesn't mean I don't want bleeding edge tech.
I’m a 5’1” female so the pro max version is unwieldy for my pockets. However, interesting thing I have experienced and pointed out ad nauseum to the forum before, the 12 Pro cramped my hand so bad I had to return it. Fortunately my husband had the 12 Pro Max and I found the weight distribution as well as the dimensions made it easier for me to carry in a way that didn’t require “the pinky bridge” (a terrible source of pain and strain) so I did much better with the 12 Pro Max than I could with the smaller Pro.

13 Pro had a different feel and weight distribution to it so I gave it a try and it was fine to hold.

I have no idea what the 14 Pro and 14 Pro max are going to be like to hold. Neither one will be pleasant to keep in a pocket because both are heavy and they have those huge camera bumps. 14 Pro Max is going to be hard to stuff into some of my purse and backpack pockets. I have a feeling I’ll still be using my iPhone SE3 a lot even if the pwm on the 14 Pro ends up not giving me migraines.

Looking at how huge that camera bump is in relation to the chassis, I would guess the 14 Pro Max would be balanced better for my hands. But the regular 13 Pro pleasantly surprised me, so who knows.

Not sure if you're joking or not.
iPhone is an electronic device, which is deductible.
A commercial cargo van is a business deduction but treated different for US tax law purposes.
Both are deductible but treated different tax wise.

I just personally feel like Steve Jobs would be using the smallest of all of Apples products line: iPhone Mini, MacBook Air, 24 inch iMac. He did use the 17 in PowerBook while recovering from surgery.
Yeah, but he died at a time when people were still fascinated by the miniaturization of tech. The trend for years was to see how many features could be packed into the smallest chassis possible. That obsession didn’t take ergonomics and battery life into account. I think he would have eventually come around to these larger devices once he saw how people interact with their tech and what their actual needs are vs. an abstract ideal. He loved the art form, but he was also into usefulness and practicality.

And if he were still alive, he’d be of an age his vision and dexterity would be starting to degrade a bit. He’d appreciate a larger screen.

"pinky bridge" lol Interesting. I don't have a 13 Pro, so I haven't held it very often. My 12 Pro will start to give me discomfort if I'm holding it too long. My sister has a 13 Pro and she is about 5'2" and uses it with no case or grip. I'm about 5'9" with average sized hands. I at least have a pop socket on mine, but she seems to have no issues with it. She wanted the size of the mini, but got the Pro because of the feature set.
