Millions of people are simultaneously hitting the servers. There's literally only so much that can be done from a technology perspective to solve for this, it doesn't matter how much money Apple throws at it.
Why the problems this year though? Never had problems in previous years. Can't imagine that many more people were ordering.

Is anybody else who ordered through Apple see “Arrives (date) by Postal Service”? So help me this better not be coming USPS.

14 pro Max 512. sept 27-30.
Same… for a fee. Oct for free. I ended up going with ship to store for 9/16. Kind of a pain but… Also - riddled with errors. Never got a successful transaction. All errors out but order was placed so I guess I’m good there.

Mine does :(. A whole week later. The postal system sucks here. I am not happy at all!

No confirmation emails for two orders that appeared to go through, 45 minutes later the site is still timing out or unavailable. Was able to get back to the cart and an Item from 6 months ago was showing up.

I’m still seeing tons of 6.1“ iPhone Pro‘s in 256GB for 9/16 delivery. All colors, all carriers in the U.S. It looks like everything else has slipped to late September/October, but I’m pretty surprised there. It’s currently 48minutes passed opening too.

I didn’t see the option for monthly installments at checkout but otherwise it went somewhat smoothly for me. I finally got the store to load at about 5 after.

Edit: I didn’t add it to the bag the first time. All good now. 52 minutes in and AirPods are still available for 9/23 delivery.

Ok so question. I preordered. In my bag it said Sept 16, during the checkout it said Sept 16. After I completed my order it said September 23rd by postal mail. Has anyone else had this issue? I can’t get ahold of apple to change it yet.
Same

Same here. Checkout showed the 16th and then my confirmation email and order status through Apple showed the 23rd through the postal service. I've NEVER had it delivered through the postal service. My app on my iPhone, iPad, and the website wouldn't load until about 9 minutes after, but I wasn't too worried when I saw the 16th on the checkout. Very disappointed and frustrated!! This has been the worst ordering experience I've had in over 8-9 years!!!

Don’t worry, we’ll hear in a few days how this was the “most incredible” iPhone launch ever and how “excited” Apple is to get a “record number” of iPhones into customers’ hands! Bask in the light of the white-hot PR glow!

I've seen this before. Unfortunately it is unlikely you will get the 16th now but you could get it before the 23rd since they are very liberal with the ETA.

Exactly what happened to me. Also took 4 minutes from when they sent copy of Verizon financing agreement to me to when I got order confirmation email. I can only sometimes pull up order status.

What a horrible experience this year. From not launching on time, to being timed out several times. My website was just spinning and I was getting errors so I tried on my phone as well. After thinking it didn't go through, I still received a confirmation email. I think I placed an order cause I got an email confirmation with an order, but it's not in my order history on apple.com. The airpods i ordered though i haven't gotten a confirmation email on, but I see in my order history. 2 orders actually, lol.
Order history can be buggy for a while after a pre-order. If you got the email you should be good. Check it again in a few hours and everything should be there.

I can't do anything. Says "service unavailable" even though It went through and I just need to pay now :(

That statement wouldn't be false though even with the site issues going on.

Not an option for some of us. My order for example is on hold for an hour which is why i need to complete it in the next 30 mins or so :)

Could the fast slip be because this year we are well into chip shortages? like the Covid quarantines that affected Chinese factories? these are things that Apple or the Suppliers won't disclose to anyone, but if they affected them then they will have much less available for release date...

I mean, how is it that I was able to start my order at 7 min. past and it was already pushed to Sep 23! I've never seen this happened before, so early into pre-orders...

You have a handful of data points in this forum thread. It's completely anecdotal.

Only Apple knows how "good" or "bad" this year is compared to the last big launch they did.

Companies will try lots of sophisticated techniques to try to spread out the load and make the process more seamless for their users. Apple does more high demand launches than any other company and has the most data on what works and doesn't work.
