Already played with a unit and I really liked it. I think it's a good option for someone who wants to upgrade, but doesn't want to spend a kidney on a Pro.
Well, in Australia, the price difference of 512GB iphone 14 plus is just $400 away from iPhone 14 pro max, and the starting price is already $2100, meaning iphone 14 plus is a terrible value compared to iPhone 14 pro max where you get way more features. And for used iPhone 13 Pro Max, you can save even more to get more features. I don’t even know the point of that phone in most other markets tbh.

I got it because it's lighter, but has a bigger screen, and has better battery. Most people maybe don't live in a big city, so maybe you don't carry your phone with you all day, but those who live in big cities and travel by transit do. So, the weight can really become noticeable.
I think almost everyone carries their phone with them all day, no matter what size the city. I really don’t get the weight thing. It’s a phone. It’s not heavy at all. If you can’t hold it, maybe you should start working out with some hand grips because your hands must be really weak.

Glad you’re happy with your purchase though. Congrats!

I think the tech nerds on this site forget that not everyone needs or wants $1000+ phone. Some people might just want a phone with a big screen because they can’t quite see everything on a small screen. Some people might just want better battery life.

Not everyone is going to run Geekbench 5 while doing a battery drain test and at the same time monitoring battery health on the first day they have the phone 😂😂😂😂🤦‍♂️
Well said! Too many people on here don’t get out to often enough!

It’s precisely for this reason why weight matters, if you’re carrying something with you everyday, holding it in your hand etc, you don’t need unnecessary weight. And the fact is the iPhone Pros are unnecessarily heavy (looking at you stainless steel).

In your use case the weight doesn't make a difference. But if you'd followed the theme of this thread, you'd realise that it's horses for courses.

Relatively speaking, the 14PM is a heavy phone. There is no denying this fact. That will be a problem for some people and for many others it won't. Personally, I would much prefer a lighter phone but with premium features. Hey, I want it all!

My 13PM is fine to use as is, but would it be better if it were lighter? Absolutely it would. Sometimes the bloody thing starts dacking me it's that heavy! Lighter is almost always better when it comes to tech.

You've had a shocker here. What's this malarkey?

If the 14 Plus sells well, there could be a market for an SE Plus.

If you look at how many Android users have mid-range phones with large displays, they might consider alternatives at the right price.
Yup. I know that’s been reported as a possibility before but I agree with you. With the move away from the mini, it feels like Apple is paving the way for bigger screen across the board, including the SE next year. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the 15 Pro/Ultra sees a bump.

I dont care what people do, but this phone purchase makes no sense unless you really are on a budget. And if someone is on a budget they should probably pass on this phone lol (but maybe that’s why they are on a budget - ie: bad decisions)
Your comment doesn’t even make sense. I can say the only reason why someone wouldn’t buy a luxury car is there on a budget. And if someone is on a budget they probably should pass on a non-luxury car because that’s why they’re on a budget you know bad decisions like they didn’t go to college or mary into a rich family. Those silly people on a budget don’t need a car, right?

You get my point. Everyone has a budget of how much they can spend and sometimes that’s not $1000 on a phone. Maybe they just had a kid or have other bills, so it might be $700 or less. Just because you’re in the situation where $1000 is nothing doesn’t mean other people are

Not quite the same excitement as receiving a US spec phone. Imagine holding a phone with no SIM slot. Can’t get that feeling in AU/NZ.
I’m guessing you’re being sarcastic but as someone who owns an iPhone 14 Pro Max without a SIM slot, it only makes a difference in the first few minutes of set up. Even on my previous iPhone with a SIM slot I wasn’t using it because I used the eSIM. The phone works exactly the same.

While you could be right, I personally doubt Apple will be going this route any time soon.

I've been saying for quite some time now that there has been pent up demand for a large non-Pro iPhone, and the 14 Plus is it. In contrast, the SE line is the uber cheap line (by Apple standards), targeting a different demographic. It's to get people in the door, but I'm not convinced Apple wants to shift even more major sales numbers into that price tier.

Moving the big phone into Apple's mid-priced tier is a big enough shift as it is (and actually one of the biggest shifts in recent iPhone history), and they will stick with that for at least several years.

Isn’t the rumor that the next SE will be based on the XR/11?

Bad decisions like spending too much on a phone with tech you don’t really need?

Wonder how many people here are bragging with their pro max 36 month payment plan instead of just buying a phone outright.
I agree with buying the phone outright. I cannot deal with US carriers contracts. Of course I do Apple installments on Apple Card to get the 3% and then pay it off immediately.

No, if you travel by car, that's a big chunk of your time it's not in your hands or weighing down your pockets.

If you want to have a laugh, go back in the forums to the previous iPhone releases. Amazing how every year the same people go nuts for the latest processor and merely 365 days later mock it as a “yesteryear outdated and slow chip, only go nuts again for the next one.

I swapped my 13 with my kid and used their Xs for a couple of weeks before getting the 14 plus.

Keeps up just fine for what iOS throws at it. The only problem was the battery life, which obviously gets worse.

Y’all so focussed on feeling like you need the absolute fastest chip, because candy crush takes an extra second to load 😂
