I’m really excited about the 14 Plus. It’s not about the cost etc. current Pro Max models are just too heavy. The lightness is the killer feature here. It’s about the same weight as the old 8 Plus which is awesome. Great battery life too.
yes you are right, tried it in the store today, was amazing how light it is, and the screen is even larger than the max! Seems pretty good quality to me, and I'm super picky!

Well, in Australia, the price difference of 512GB iphone 14 plus is just $400 away from iPhone 14 pro max, and the starting price is already $2100, meaning iphone 14 plus is a terrible value compared to iPhone 14 pro max where you get way more features. And for used iPhone 13 Pro Max, you can save even more to get more features. I don’t even know the point of that phone in most other markets tbh.
Here in Portugal, the Max starts at 1499€ and the Plus at 1189€, so the difference is huge IMO. You can get more storage with the Plus and still keep some money in your pocket. Many people prefer a simpler iPhone and don't need the Pro version. Same goes for people who say they need the Pro and when you ask why, they say it's faster opening apps and surfing the web.

Those types don't count, but to each their own.

The 14 Plus is here and it looks great in the blue. There’s definitely a difference in weight compared to my 14 PM and it’s noticeable. It’s so strange to hold an aluminum iPhone in this size. I feel like this is going to be plenty of phone for plenty of people.

In the UK the difference between the 14 Plus (£949) and the 14 Pro Max (£1199) is a pair of AirPods Pro (£949+£249) or add £10 and make it an Apple Watch SE (£949+£259).

£250 is a huge saving compared to the 14 Pro Max and for most people the Plus will be all the phone they want as they don’t need the better camera or smoother brighter screen, and lets face it everyone other than the big tech nerds who benchmark wont notice the difference between the A15 & the A16.

The big selling point of the Plus is the larger screen and the battery life which when I got my 12 Pro Max were the only things that upsold that to me over the standard 12, if I were buying for myself this generation the Plus would be extremely tempting to me.
That said is it overpriced yeah very much so but pretty much all phones are nowadays, that is the price of capitalism for you big tech has to make big profits or the shareholders wont be happy. Realistically phones have matured so much lately that most of the cool new stuff can be added to the older models with software updates and we don’t need yearly hardware refreshes, but if they didn’t do yearly refreshes then people won‘t have anything to spend their money on and the shareholders wont like that.

The 14 Plus is overpriced for what it is at $929 unconnected and the Pro Max is only $170 more USD.

You make it sound like the 14 Plus is cheap. Also just to be fair the 14 Plus excludes the following:
1. ProMotion
2. A15 - worse chip
3. Lesser camera - sensor and optical zoom
4. Lesser screen- less ppi and brightness
5. No AOD
6. Less battery life as measured by Apple
7. Old style notch

I’m sure there are more differences but…

For me ProMotion is super important. The 14 series screens are so choppy. Once you see ProMotion you cannot unsee it.

It’s about a 1.3 ounce weight difference (not pound, but ounce). I still wonder if these weight comments are real?

Like I said people can do what they want, but personally I wouldn’t even get my parents the basic 14 series because it’s so flawed for the price. Now if it was $699 that’s a different discussion altogether.
Very theoretical and you picked anything to prove your point (whoever it is so important to you to drag down the plus).
Ppi is almost the same, nobody will see the difference. Also nobody will experience any speed issues for years with a15. AOD is nice to have but also a gimmick. Battery life is actually better.
And the probably biggest advantage of the plus is ignored by you almost completely.
The pro Max is 20% heavier. Sure it’s not pounds but it’s a lot and something you’ll fell in everyday life. At least more than the two or three ppi less.
Normal customers don’t care about the notch and with the pro Mac you still don’t get full screen but a new kind of notch called dynamic island.
Pro motion surely is a nice thing but again in real life, people want large screens and don’t care about refresh rates. It’s still one of the best screens I’ve can buy these days.
Finally the price.. maybe you already realizes that everything saw hefty increases over the last year. So it’s not more or less overpriced than it ever was.

My post was to highlight the improvements you get from the Pro Max to the Plus for the additional $179USD. Only commentary I gave was ProMotion - for me it’s huge but if you don’t see it that’s fine too and gives you more options. I cannot unsee it unfortunately.

I did not ignore the weight. I mentioned the 1.3 ounce difference. If someone doesn’t value the improvements buy the Plus, but those are the primary differences.

In my opinion the Plus is overpriced. It should be closer to $799 but at $929USD why wouldn’t you get the Max unless again the 1.3 of an ounce really matters that much.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are cash grabs in my opinion. $1100 CAD and $1250 CAD (Canadian) for the 14 and 14 plus with no Dynamic Island or triple camera setup, no Promotion display, and last year's processor?

Get out of here.

You said it was a minor difference in weight but in fact its 20%.
Not being able to unsee the lack of 120hz might be another reason not to buy a pro ;)
Anyway it’s all true (for you), I was just wondering why you were bashing the 14 plus that much. It is a very good option for many people and as it was pointed out already it is a 179 usd difference I my in the us. I still think that’s quite a lot of money though.
