Sometimes I wonder if Apple isn't just stress testing their pricing…

"How much can we get away with?"

One day the proverbial last straw will break the camel's back. Mind you, knowing Apple's hardcore following, perhaps never.
🤷🏻‍♂️
This is the same with EVERY company. They will try to get the most profit. Lays will put less potato chips in a bag and more air, as much as they can get away with. Nothing at all to do with a 'hardcore' following.

I'm a big Apple fan - but I don't buy all the iterations of their products, and I don't know anyone else who does either. I have had an iPhone since the first one. Then I got an iPhone 4S, then 8. And now I have a 12. I'm not upgrading to the iPhone 14. Too few features, and my 12 is just fine. I'll probably get a new one around 16/17.

If someone is being severely affect by inflation and other cost of living price increases, the last thing that person should be thinking about and doing is getting a new iPhone 14.
True. But that implies people behave rationally. 🤣

Reading comments on MacRumours it seems that everyone here is a multi millionaire. I suspect many are living way beyond their means…

I am less & less inclined to buy the iPhone 14 this year despite the need.

The lack of USB-c, 256GB base storage, and the price hike are deal breakers for me.

Apple has adjusted pricing soon after launch before. The original iPhone was "price corrected" so to speak from $599 to $399, for example. Their pricing is also comparable to Samsung's lineup which includes much more expensive phones.

If you need more storage, simply pay for it. Easy.

It's like a car. Need more features over the base model, simply pay for them.

Eat normal healthy food and live with an old iPhone for another year or two, or eat Maruchan ramen noodle for another X years and get a new iPhone 14??? Hmmm.... Tough decision. 🤣

Interesting so within 12 months you already gave Apple $120 just on services alone. Would cost you about the same or less if you had gone for more than 128GB.

The reason why is because Apple knows its customer base and they have the data. They know exactly how to make money based on what people are tied to be using or how much storage they really need. That's why there is a big gap. It all comes down to generating money for Apple. Profiting the $.
Even with that much storage on your iPhone does it really matter? In my opinion...to me iCloud space matters more than what's on my phone. I have a 256gb 13PM with 141GB available. I share with 4 family members 250GB. To me what's on the iCloud is more important than what's on my phone. iCloud can never be lost while imagine you lose your phone and lose everything on it.

Apple loves an upsell. Going with 256 base storage means a lot of people will be getting the base model. On the other hand, if they're raising the price to the cost of the previous 256 model, doesn't that count as forcing everyone to buy the extra storage? From that perspective I'd say raising the base cost and the storage makes the most sense for the company.

I agree. 100%. Just checked and I have officially hit 1TB of storage. 🙈

To infinity and beyond...

That's how Cook made Apple a money printing machine. There's no turning back... Even if the next CEO is more product oriented, the insane expectations of the shareholders will tie him up. The Apple we used to know is long gone.

A lot of people will be fine with 128, a lot of people will need more. I can see the non-pro models offered with 128 starting, but I’m guessing that the majority of Pro buyers do so because of camera/video and if indeed we get 8k, 128 doesn’t cut it…
It’s not going to take much longer to the event where we will find out

Prices did not drop at all when the COVID-19 outbreak hit. Prices will either remain the same or they will go up. Most likely they will go up. 😔

This is Apple. Also, last year Apple reported that revenue is down for other Apple products. I'm sure Apple won't be dropping prices for the iPhone because they have to make up for the slow profit and revenue margin.

You got Apple selling iPhone 14 with (iPhone 13) last year's chip. Can you imagine how much money they will be saving now?
I'm not suggesting they drop prices. Just not increasing them might be a good strategy, on a lot of levels right now.
