If you need more storage, simply pay for it. Easy.

It's like a car. Need more features over the base model, simply pay for them.
Very true. But…with a so-called pro model capable of shooting 8k video and possibly full 48 megapixel photos (no binning in good light) starting the phone at 128 gb looks cheap. Still, I don’t think Apple would do this if they thought it would negatively impact sales. If they do this.

After every iPhone purchase they send me a very detailed survey asking me why I chose each model and feature and spec and what my opinion on it has been. They’re definitely gathering data and not flying blind on their decisions.

This is the same with EVERY company. They will try to get the most profit. Lays will put less potato chips in a bag and more air, as much as they can get away with. Nothing at all to do with a 'hardcore' following.

I'm a big Apple fan - but I don't buy all the iterations of their products, and I don't know anyone else who does either. I have had an iPhone since the first one. Then I got an iPhone 4S, then 8. And now I have a 12. I'm not upgrading to the iPhone 14. Too few features, and my 12 is just fine. I'll probably get a new one around 16/17.
Lay's will soon just sell compressed air canisters

If they are raising prices because of supply and demand, why would they increase the base storage? Kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?

If you can include a bump somewhere it would probably be result in less of a negative impact in the press, social media unit sales. Storage also seems to be one of the options that Apple traditionally charges more for vs competitors so they may have more margin room there?

Even with that much storage on your iPhone does it really matter? In my opinion...to me iCloud space matters more than what's on my phone. I have a 256gb 13PM with 141GB available. I share with 4 family members 250GB. To me what's on the iCloud is more important than what's on my phone. iCloud can never be lost while imagine you lose your phone and lose everything on it.

Same, I'll upgrade my icould storage or back stuff up on a physical drive before upping from base iphone storage.

No idea, but what Apple might do is not have 8K available on a 128GB version, just like ProRes video is not available on the 128gb 13 Pro version.

It is still very possible to still have RAW photos (48mp) on a 128GB phone. Each photo will be around 28-35mb however.

Who knows, it's all guessing at this point.

Remember people. This is coming from the same person who despite the iPhone 13 models starting at 128GB he said the iPhone 14 was going to start at 64GB ( yes he said that)

my thoughts… if the 14 pro is going to support 8K video ( at possibly 60FPS) recording then it’s obvious 128GB is out of the picture. 🤔

Everything now is all based on rumours so take any news with lightly.
There are still shortages in many things including SSD storage but those prices have been steadily dropping as well.
Having 128Gb for the basic iPhone 14 models is reasonable, maybe start with 256Gb for the Pro models, considering the higher cost.
The sweet spot for me is 64Gb after learning file management on the iPhone for many years. The 128Gb is more than sufficient for most people though 256Gb would be nice as long as the price doesn't go up.
Most likely Apple will increase the prices, at least on the Pro models, to differentiate the higher end models.
Wait another month to see what actually happens next September.
Apple should at least increase the measly 5Gb iCloud storage to, say 10Gb.

It's never a bad bet when talking about Apple base model specs to take the under. Actually surprised they're not still starting at 32 or 64.

iPhone peaked at iPhone X, nothing since then.

Buy a used few year old iPhone, if you need a new one. All new iPhone releases are just money grabs.

Off course!!!
The 256 price gap from the 1248gb will no not be so big compared to the price piece bump in the baseline version comoared to last year.

Prices did not drop at all when the COVID-19 outbreak hit.

The Pro and Pro Max entry prices didn't drop (Apple instead provided double the storage for the same price) but when comparing like storage, prices did indeed drop in 2020.

The 128GB 12 Pro was $999 which was the price of the smaller storage 64GB 11 Pro.
The 256GB 12 Pro was $1,099 which was $50 less than the price of the 256GB 11 Pro.
The 512GB 12 Pro was $1,299 which was $50 less than the price of the 512GB 11 Pro.

The 128GB 12 Pro Max was $1,099 which was the price of the smaller storage 64GB 11 Pro Max.
The 256GB 12 Pro Max was $1,199 which was $50 less than the price of the 256GB 11 Pro Max.
The 512GB 12 Pro Max was $1,399 which was $50 less than the price of the 512GB 11 Pro Max.

I’m afraid Apple are in for a rude awakening, if they increase prices with no increase in specifications, in a world in recession and a massive cost of living crises, with energy and fuel prices through the roof at record numbers, and they think they’ll sell just as many iPhones as before? No, they won’t. People won’t spend 1200 or 1100 pounds or dollars on a new phone unless absolutely necessary, nor join new 18 or 24 month contracts at higher prices and with money put down too. They will worry about paying for heating this winter instead, or filling their car fuel tank up.
