I think the pendulum has swung too much in the thicker direction at this point. I remember when I bought my 11 Pro Max it was starting to feel too thick and heavy and it turns out they've gone thicker with the 12 and even thicker with the 13, and now they want to go even thicker?

There's an ideal middle ground and I think the 11 Pro was it. Good battery life without being too thick and heavy. This worries me a bit because my 11 Pro Max is going to be 3 years old this year and I'm going to want to upgrade and I don't want to lose screen size to avoid a massively heavy phone.
That's my problem too. Always had the plus phones and then the 11 Pro Max. Downsized to a 13 Pro though because the Max was just too big and heavy of a brick for me. If they made a non pro max phone I would probably give up the pro features so I could have a big, light phone again.

Because the screens are too small for 90% of people. Most people would rather buy a heavier phone than put up with looking at such a small screen. The X was a great thickness and had a camera bump most people could live with. The mini is in no way a substitute for the Pro or Max models and it's absolutely silly to suggest so.

I didn‘t exactly suggest that, did I? I only said that if you want a really light phone, you had your chance in the last two refreshes.

Also, something‘s gotta give. If you want „pro“ size and specs, you gotta accept „pro“ weight. I think the regular model is a good compromise as it is significantly lighter and you‘ll even get a „max“ version this time around.

Apple basically keeps selling the same body for many years. Sure, there are annual improvements to the camera; but they are so tiny that I hardly notice any significant differences. I guess this is a good thing, as Steve Jobs toted in the original launch of the iPhone; it’s the ability to change the software 6 months down the road if you want to.

There is a formulae here though, because people still upgrade regardless there is a minor change to the design or not.

I just look at the pics my iPhone X captures and ask my self every September, is it really time to upgrade?

So heavier and fatter every year? Okay for a laptop, but a phone you carry with you all day and hold in your hand for hours (some people at least)

I remember 5 onwards the selling point was iPhones getting thinner and we would complain about that…now it’s the other way around!

Yeah, I'm similarly happy with my 11 Pro Max's photos. I have a feeling I'm going to keep using this phone until the battery starts to fail, then I will decide between replacing the battery and upgrading. It'll all depend on what's out there when that finally happens. My battery is at 89% maximum capacity, which given the 11 Pro Max's excellent battery life, isn't even noticeable. I'm still charging only every other day which is freaking amazing.

The overall thickness of the iPhone and camera bump itself does not bother me as long we see an excellent battery life and upgraded cameras. It's worth dealing with the thickness.
I don't want a thicker heavier iPhone 14 Pro Max to be honest. But I would sacrifice that for a better camera with better zoom. If making it thicker includes a better zoom....I'd take that!

Nobody wants just a light phone though, the key factor you're overlooking here. They want lighter, top spec, and a large screen which Apple has provided several times in the past. Many are willing to sacrifice thinness because screen size and top spec are more important.

We get it mini users, you are obsessed with the phone and sad it isn't getting updated.

Can’t wait to see what use will be made of that space between the pill-shaped cutout and the circular cutout. Must be a valuable piece of property to go through all that effort creating it.

Once they can move the telephoto camera to a periscope design, that may allow them to reduce the camera bump thickness again. Reducing the overall thickness probably requires a battery tech change like solid-state lithium batteries which are not quite there yet.

This is the exact Reason why I have to leave my iPhone at home and bring only my galaxy device sometimes is that it's just too big for certain occasions. This is a mess Apple, just make a thinner phone.

Even if these phones are slightly thicker/heavier, like that’s going to stop this phone from sell any less. The complainers we regularly see, are here just to make noise. They’ll still buy this iPhone regardless. And most consumers in general, aren’t checking Apples spec’ page for something they won’t even notice.

Cool? It was a joke highlighting how stupid it ever was to tell people a phone was 8% thinner than the previous year.
Why is that stupid? If it's a design philosophy (it was), then telling people is consistent with the design philosophy. It was important at the time because the early iPhones were thick (about 50% thicker than current ones) so getting them thinner and lighter was a significant engineering feat. Apple got to a point (and Ive left and Jobs had died) where Apple designers and engineers could go in the other direction and make the devices thicker but still remain thinner than the early models.

Umm. That's disappointing - for me. Maybe this year is the year to go back to the Pixel! I still rue the day I sold my Pixel 5A for the iPhone 13. Maybe I should wait until final designs are leaked or for the actual product launch before getting carried away!

Just give me a phone that fits in my hand and my pocket, and sits nicely on the table, with nicely contoured edges so I can easily pick it up when I need it.

You know, like the nearly perfect ergonomics of the very original iPhone.

BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL!!! It was and still is the best ergonomically designed phone Apple ever made.

New Apple Watch feature keeps track of how many iPhone 14 pro-pro-max reps you do a day, on your way to huge biceps.

Reading about the 14 Pro schematics and people complaining about how large the camera bump is - but don’t they realize that the camera on these phones is better than the Canon Digital SLRs we used to carry? Having a great camera and video recorder in my pocket compared to lugging around a camera bag is kinda miraculous. We’re living in an age of such rapid advancement that people are forgetting how truly incredible these leaps are.

IMO, The bump should be no more than the thickness of a case… as for the overall thickness, if I had to trade off between battery life and thickness, I would lean towards better battery.

No one cares. Most of us are not photographers. I would rather have a small flat camera with less power.
