Should a hole punch iPhone be announced next year, I’ll immediately start popping corn.
Definitely, I am also ready for popcorn and see how the world explode after that announcement, if that is true.

Safari is trash…… never worked right with macrumors in slide over mode.

The volume of displays Apple needs and would contract for means they would have to be sure about under display Face ID or Touch ID. They just can’t change or renegotiate those contracts on the fly. So yes, if under screen Face ID failed in long term testing or Touch ID was not reliable long term, the default position would probably be milling out a larger cut out on the frame for power button Touch ID.

In a way Apple’s success stymied it’s ability to go forward with new leading edge tech. The production numbers in the contracts are too large to gamble in the newest tech, sorry but that is most likely the reason Apple waits for others to come out with new tech, then when it’s matured and no longer a gamble, it gets incorporated into Apple’s latest phones.

So that’s my take on the new screens for the pro models and the possible authentications. It is what it is…

Kuo has been wrong many times and I suspect he’s wrong again. The notch is iconic and is part of the brand at this point. Hence, the added notch on the MBP. My prediction is that the notch will go away or shrink over time when technology allows, but Apple will not make their iPhone look like the mass of cheap, generic Android devices when there’s no UX or aesthetic benefit (except for the handful of people who have an irrational hate for the notch) by moving to a hole punch.

What about the notch familiy? And will the Notch macbooks turn into hole punch macbooks?

With no notch, Apple will a implement a different solution for Face ID

The best solution to Face ID is Touch ID.
If they’ve figured out how to implement FaceID under the display or with an alternate design then we’re only a selfie camera away from a fully notchless iPhone.

Instead of a hole punch, I wish Apple was introducing the following camera layout instead. It looks much simpler and elegant. This hole punch is throwing mad Samsung vibes.

Oh well, hole punch will do it. Don't have a choice.

Think Different! ??
Yeah, that pill cutout would give the iPhone 14 Pro a distinctive look. Maybe with some miniaturization, the FaceID components could fit. If we get a hole punch, the days of the iPhone looking different than a Samsung would be over, at least from the front.

I can't believe that Apple would ditch the notch right after they shrunk it and also added it to the MacBook Pro.
Unpopular opinion: I like the notch as a design element.

It only gets in the way while watching videos at times, especially the more narrow but slightly longer notch.

Others in the supply chain are also saying the same thing.

iconic or not it’s time to move on from the notch from a design point of view.

My next iPhone will be a foldable device. Otherwise my IPhone 13PM is perfect. Apple going to have to do more than just change the camera shape at the top of the screen especially when the notch doesn’t bother me to begin with!

Wasn't "Think Different" an old Hitachi tag line? I'm going back to the 1990s when they were making mainframes to compete with Amdahl's and IBM's mainframes.
Just waiting for notch-apologists
I apologize for the notch.
(Touch is) inferior to Face ID by miles.
No it's not. Face ID doesn't work when you want to wake up your iPhone while it's laying flat on the desk. Face ID also does not work with masks. And get ready; "all masks all the time" is coming to a town council near you. Right after they force "boosters for life" down your throat (er, in your arm).

The real reason Apple is moving away from the notch is due to the worldwide shortage of notches. The mountain they're excavated from collapsed from over mining.
So are you saying that Samsung and LG have sub-contactors to manufacture the notches? Hmmmm. Sounds like a supply chain issue!! ??

It’ll be interesting to see the shape of the hole(s) that Apple decides on.

Many people seem to be taking it literally that the hole will be simply one circular hole. There are many options including two or more holes and pill shaped cutouts.
Most likely a single hole punch and they implement Face ID under display.
makes no sense at all to have more than one hole, that would be much worse than a notch.

Apple said when they released the X that their end goal is pure screen so

I’m typing this on my iPhone 13 PM.. best phone I’ve ever used. But I just ordered a Samsung flip 3 and can’t wait to give something different a go. I’m actually excited. Will definitely use the iPhone for work due to the ridiculous battery and taxing work apps I run all day.. but as a tech nerd the foldable factor actually has me excited despite not being on my hallowed iOS.

Change in notch is no reason to drop more $$$ from anything iPhone 11 onwards imho
Got me a Samsung flip on way too and gonna play with the cheap Motorola phone that do so much for so little.

I hope they use the punched out display circles as a display on the iPod shuffle that only shows the battery level.

Oh wait, I don’t think Apple sells iPods anymore, but it’s impossible to know for certain…

It’s too darn early; everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt. When March/April rolls around, we can get excited.
