iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max Hole-Punch Displays to Be Supplied By LG and Samsung

Just like the iPhone 12 was supposed to have promotion but they couldn’t get it right (aka hold back features).

I still don’t buy it

Furthermore, you don’t have to use Face ID, you can still unlock your phone with a passcode if that was something that was that much of an issue for the user. That’s also something you failed to mention.

Two years into the pandemic and Apple appears fully committed to Face ID, probably to amortize the investment they made in the technology and on the mistaken assumption that things would go back to normal (see also: the repeated extensions on the deadline to return to Apple Park).

I neglected to mention nothing. “You’re holding it wrong” was a poor response in 2010 and shouldn’t be repeated now.

Aesthetically it’s night and day. And makes more sense for the number of sensors.

It doesn’t make much more practical sense from a notch except for all the notch haters…

Plus apple has to consider recognizability and marketing - this would allow for a compromise.

My first guess - notch continues. Second guess - what they said.

I don't mind the notch but would rather it be gone. The notch is no more iconic than the big bezels of the iPhone 8 and earlier, and at least those didn't directly cut into the status bar and screen space.
 
Why do they even need the hole punch? I cannot see this happening. What will the small hole be for and why can everything else be hidden except this hole?

The notch is deff a unique and I feel like either we have a notch or have nothing.

The fact that Apple can place its 3D FaceID technology under the display is quite remarkable. No one else, I believe, has been able to do so.
 
So is the iPhone ever going to have any new innovation or design? or will Cook recycle the same look for 10 more years? Such a boring redundant product. They completely have lost their WOW factor.

Why? It’s not like they love the notch. It was the best way to solve the problem at the time. If they can do a better one, and at scale, and it it doesn’t mess with prices or parts availability too much, I can totally see them changing.

So, so you want a triangular phone, or a circular one?

Oddly enough, I get my phone to use, not as a fashion accessory. Maybe that’s old fashioned now.

100% agree. The whole-punch looks so naff, like they’re trying to hide something embarrassing but failing to do so. Your design looks a lot better, though if they don’t need that much width they it’s a waste of space. Why not just a very narrow notch?
 
I particularly don’t care for the hole punch designed. I like the smaller reduction in this years current iPhone with the notch. I feel like I’d be more distracted over a hole in the middle top of the screen than the notch in my opinion

The idea that one needs to spend an additional 400 dollars on an accessory just to have FaceID work with a mask on doesn’t makes much sense. This is not a solution for the masses, just an inconvenience.

Just put a fingerprint scanner under that display. Face Id has been so useless during these pandemic times. Instead put some money on figuring out camera under the display.
