I asked this before and you probably answered already....why havewnt you called apple yet?
I know this happened on the 13 too but srsly Id have still talked to them
Because I don't think it's an issue. I have compared multiple models and with different iCloud account and this behaviour is observable with different devices and iCloud account. So why calling Apple ?

Event if I did not made my tests correctly ! And if you tell me that using your phone like me does not produce the same effects !

For the moment, I am at 80% after 1h40 of use (lots of small use as I always do, 10min each time).

At work I have another iPhone 14 Pro (not my iCloud account), I haved use it for small usages multiple times and went from 79% to 55% with 1h15 SOT from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Why he would call Apple? For a software issue?
It’s pretty known worldwide that iOS 16 is crap regarding battery. Even with the 16.1.
And the biggest issue of all is the draining when data is on.
Even with the new X65 Qualcomm modem seems Apple hasn’t find a solution to make it work without draining the battery. That’s why in almost every beta we have a modem firmware update. Even Tuesday’s 16.2 Beta 1 has a new one.
We should take more consideration about software and it’s issues rather than calling Apple for everything.

Here are my iPhone 14 and another one but with approximatively a same usage.

On the left (an iPhone 14 Pro I use at work)
1h40 SOT and 79% to 46%

On the right (my iPhone 14 Pro)
2h12 SOT and 100% to 69%

Before the 16.1 update, my battery was doing really well. I had everything turned on AOD all day, 5G on and would get really good battery life. Seems like 16.1 reversed all that and now the battery life is a bit shorter. Not sure if placebo but just an observation.
Same observation on my end. I lose about 50% battery now with 3 hours SOT vs about 4 hours before updating.

14 PM here and I am getting about 5-6 hours SOT on 50% battery. I have very rarely managed to use more than 50-60 % per day so I am happy. I haven’t noticed a significant dip or increase on 16.1

Not really seen any change in battery life on my 14 Pro since moving over to 16.1. Hitting 30% after 16hrs with about 4.5 hours Screen on Time with my "Normal" usage. As @The_Smarti said lots of "little bits" seems to hit the battery hard.

Background App refresh is off, which I had on on the iPhone 11. Cellular is 5G Auto, but I'm mostly on Wifi. AoD is on, but only really gives an extra 5% in my case and the phone is generally face down anyway.

My bigger concern is when I've been using it out and about. I bought it as a better Camera and want to take a lot of photos. However that has definitely been hitting the battery hard. Will see if anything improved there this weekend.

I am trying DFU restore and I will use my iCloud backup (iCloud backup should be very clean because I have made a fresh install 4 days ago !). I don't want to be frustrated by not having test all I can try !

EDIT: I'm stuck on the Apple logo !!!

EDIT 2: Horrible ! I tried restore from my PC, from my old Macbook pro, nothing to do ! And one software saved me.... 3uTools on PC. Everything is ok now after very high stress for me. Backup restored. Let's see for the battery !

Battery life has been abysmal on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. AOD on. On iOS 16.1 and using my phone for 3 hours lowers the battery by 50%?

Mine is pretty much the exact same as what you’re getting here. Mine drops from 100% to 60% during the workday, with <1hr SOT.

I charged my 13PM (with 92% battery health) on Monday and left it in the house doing nothing and it’s still on 48% today (Friday).

Why is Home & Lock Screen showing up as my top consumption despite not having Always On display on?

I also have this usage high in the section but it is because I am often on the Home screen to look the battery % 😁.

Have you compared that usage to an AOD with a darker background and a widget being in use. Would be interesting to know how much enegry the AOD sapped compared zo you checking all the time. Just for scientific sake

I don't use AOD but I have tested dark mode, it's a little better (normal thanks to OLED) but does not eplain a battery drain like 50% with 3h.

My 14P had decent battery life at 16.0.3, averaging about 6+ hours of SOT for 50% for my usage, mostly Safari, Youtube, News+, Reddit, Candy Crush. At 16.1, the battery life goes down significantly with the same usage. Just let it sit there doing nothing (AOD off) would lose 1.5% - 2% in an hour, and watching videos via wifi in Safari would consume around 20% in an hour, that I believe is twice as much as on 16.0.3. What's worse, my phone would become too warm to touch occasionally for no apparent reason. The battery would drain rapidly when that happens. Oh well, this battery draining issue looks awfully like the one my iPhone SE Gen 2 suffered.

I updated my 14P to 16.1.1 early this morning. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised with the idle battery drainage with this new version-- It has been 7 hours since I charged it to 77%, and it is still at 77%. On 16.1 I'd expect 1% to 2% drop per hour. I hope the drainage under loads has also improved. I will put it to the test tonight.

Be careful ! When the phone is unplugged, it takes a lot of time to lose the first %. You cannot compare it with a « normal » 77% ! It does like if it was a 100% so it takes a long time to decrease. Keep us informed.

Updated to 16.1.1 last night and battery has significantly improves. From 9am to 9pm, phone still has 57%. Usage of 4hr 42min. In the past it would be around 30-40%

Don’t think so, it’s your placebo effect. Maybe this day have changed something to your daily routine.
16.1.1 doesn’t come with battery improvement. This will come - hopefully - in mid December with 16.2.
And all these small updates x.x.1 or 2 never had battery improvements in the past.

Here my 10 days battery chart on my 14 Pro (left)
And my colleague's charts (right).
Big difference !

I have call Apple but they do not have tools to investigate system and check what processes are running and their impact. So I cannot do anything....

And you, what chart does your iPhone look like?

There is no way your colleague to use his 14 Pro as smartphone!! Moreover like a dumb phone. If he has everything closed, scrolling through web, and all the time on WiFi maybe just maybe.
Your chart is a normal use chart for a 14 Pro (with current awful iOS 16 battery optimisation).
Here’s mine.

An update: When compared with 16.1, 16.1.1 does appear to have noticeably lower idle battery drainage. However, 16.1.1 drains about the same as 16.1 when put under loads. Furthermore, I have identified one major battery drainer-- YouTube TV app. When YouTube TV runs in the foreground, it consumes about 10%/hr. If you do picture-in-picture, or turn off the screen and let it play in the background, then the consumption shoots up to 25%/hr, and the phone gets too warm to touch. I can reliably reproduce this behavior (it takes less than 10 minutes of background play to get the phone to heat up). BTW, I have tried other streaming apps HBO, Apple TV+, and Disney+, none of them has YouTube TV's battery draining behavior.

Also, I suspect that connecting my 14P to 5GHz wifi network would drain more battery when compared with connection to 2.4GHz network. I need to do more experiments to confirm this, but that's what I have casually observed so far.

I was experiencing pretty serious battery drain (and heat/thermal) issues on my 14 Pro Max since 16.1 and after reading this thread decided to erase and do an iCloud restore. I don’t usually subscribe to the theory this fixes things but I can confirm that doing this has completely fixed my 14 PM. It does not run hot after being left alone anymore, it’s not hot after charging and battery life is now inline with expectations.
