Just picked up a 512gb Pro today. Put it on to charge. I have turned off the always on display. Reduced brightness to a fairly low level. Removed the weather widget. Charged it then realised its optimised charging wasn't letting it get beyond 80%. Is that part of the problem?

I will charge it up to the max level it allows me to then time its and log this for the next few charges and see how long it lasts.

Turning off weather widgets and AOD has helped my battery life some. It was draining pretty quickly when those were active. Now it seems to be a bit better. Still not as good as my 12 pro max I traded in that had 88% battery, least not yet. Hoping an update solves this issue.

After several days „find my“ still uses around 12 % each night (iPhone 14 pro). Pretty bad. Otherwise battery life is good.
And again 14 % lost in 7 hours because of find my over night. Is there a way to kill this process over night? I use an AirTag so I would not want to completely disable it.

That's the problem of nearby AirTags, I got rid of my AirTag because of this drain.
Maybe put the AirTag or phone in a location where they DON'T "see" eachother

Optimised charging will learn your charging pattern, the more you plug it in and unplug.

It'll charge to 80% then charge it to 100% in time for when you take it off charge.

for example, my phone gets to 80% at around 2-3am and then sits there until around 5am when it'll continue to 100% for me to take off charge around 06:30-7am

I’m not crazy…this is terrible right?

Can someone explain how that "Screen Active" works?
I always charge my phone over the night, so in the morning i have 100%.
But the screen active is not reset... for eg. i have 3hr30min, then after 2 hours i have 2hr15min, then after 8 hours of work i have 5hr20min and so on...it doesnt make sense.

It’s screen active in the last 24hrs. So as the day progresses, it wipes older usage. So if it goes down from one hour to the next, it essentially means that 24 hours ago, you had more usage in that hour than you had in the most recent hour.

Ok, understood, but then how relevant this "screen active" is?
Let's say you charge your phone overnight and in the morning (8AM) you have 100%. At 5PM you're down to 5%. Screen Active indicates 6hrs of usage. But this usage, as you said, is in 24hours and you have just 9hrs since you unplugged your phone until it died. It doesnt make sense, or i'm missing something.

Already did that but it still drains the battery like crazy. But thanks for the suggestion. What I don’t understand is, that this does not seem to be a problem at day. If apple cannot fix this I might have to get rid of my AirTags as well.

Guys this is horrible right? All I’m doing is listening to music from my local library, browsing the web, using Apple Maps occasionally, shooting 1-2 photos every day and using the Reddit app. How am I getting 3-4 hours of screen time? This is like 20% better than the 2020 SE I’ve upgraded from.

14 PM
AOD off
Background refresh off
4G (2 bars) Mon and Wed 9 hours, Thu 1 hour

Getting approximately 4-4.5 hours for 50 to 55% battery. These feel lower than my 13 PM

Well I get about 3 hours of SOT on my 14 Pro with AOD off and 4G off most of the time from 100% to 10-15% with very light usage. With iOS 16.0.3 this has been hell.

You guys try setting the limit frame rate option in the accessibility motion controls setting? I have it enabled and don’t really notice a difference in the screen

Hmmm, I think the AirPods Pro gen2 have some kinda findmy integration as well since I see the drain again the last couple of days

I am not sure if my battery on my 14 pro max is good or bad honestly. I had it since launch and I can easily last a full day of usage on a single charge. But it seems my phone will rapidly drain until it gets down to the like 79% and then turns into a champ and will slowly drain after that.

I have the last two full days on a single charge. Though to be fair those times have been with Wifi on the majority of the time and not a lot of heavy use.

Edit

I have AOD turned off
Background Refresh is off
Apps with location services are set to use GPS "only while using the app".

In addition to your own ‘FindMy’ devices, most folks phones/batteries with GPS activated (eg, for ‘battery optimization’) are being used by Apple as crowdsourced beacons to support the global AirTag system - ie, your phones are constantly Bluetooth-searching for, and GPS-reporting location of, the some 40million AirTags out there in the wild.

You can fully shutdown the use of your phone as a crowdsource beacon, but only through multiple menus in the settings, or use of shortcuts.

Have there been any conclusive tests showing the battery impact of leaving the always on display enabled on the 14 Pro? I turned it off for now since the battery on my 14 Pro is abysmal. Hoping it helps.

Can you show us?

I have made a fresh install on my iPhone 14 Pro (without iCloud backup) and I'm disappointed about the battery life. What do you think ?

When you share screens, please make it from 100% and no usage before if possible. If not, it's not easy to compare !
