Well this isn’t great… during the fastest battery drain time I was asleep with my phone on my nightstand with always on display mode off.

Too soon to tell for the battery I believe, at least for me. iOS 16 has made battery life for both 13 and 14 a fair amount worse than iOS 15, so we may have to wait a few updates to really understand whether battery is better. I sure hope it is :-D
I upgraded my 13 Pro Max to iOS 16 on Monday and after Wednesday i am getting two solid days out of it which is almost twice what i got under IOS15.6 I am contemplating staying with 16.0 for ever! if it wasn't for security updates I would not take another upgrade! LOL

Same thing happened with 15 and 15.1 and battery life was great then became terrible from 15.3-15.5 while 15.6 was a slight improvement. Love my 13 pro Max right now so unless iPhone 14 is showing better life i will wait and upgrade to iPhone15 next year. I did notice I will probably get $200 less for my 13 at that time.
Btw this year Apple lowered the trade in prices so instead of raising prices they lowered the trade in by $100, at least for 13 Pro Max.

Another 13 Pro Max user here seeing some of the best battery life I’ve ever seen.

This is going to be anecdotal because I'm not taking screenshots. Yesterday first day battery life was the typical poor experience. Today with everything now setup and logged in and downloaded and what not, battery life was typical Apple outstanding. I think I lost maybe 10% in 4ish hours of regular (new phone playing heavy) usage. We FaceTimed with my parents this evening and it says it basically used one percent per minute. This was on WiFi.

So I decided to do a mini experiment of sorts with the battery.

Test 1
This was a quick charge using a 20W plug that came with my iPad Air and the USB C to Lightning plug that came with my 14 Pro.

Flat to 100% : 1 hr 40. Noticeable warm to the touch during charge. Not enough to be concerned about but definite warmth.
Remained at 100% after charge: 40 mins
Full Cycle: 8.5 hours from being taken off the charger at 100% to the phone switching itself off due to flat battery.

Test 2
This was a slower charge using the USB to lightning and 5W plug that came with my old XR.

I am still in the process of this test but the stats so far are

Flat to 100% : 3 hr 41. Remained completely cool to the touch any time I used it mid charge.
100% 37 mins

Usage so far: 2 hrs and 11 minutes of active screen time with 85% of battery remaining. Test 1 was already down to 80% by the two hour mark.

It lingered at the 100% mark for slightly less time but overall decrease of battery percentage is less so far.

iPhone 14 Pro... 8:20am to 11:29pm normal to pretty active-ish usage today... not bad. 23% left as of now.

definitely doable. Not Pro Max insaneness but its doable for a full day.

Traded in the iPhone 14 Pro, now I'm back with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The battery life was just going down a lot faster than I'm accustomed to based on my usage.

Loving my 14PM coming from my 13PM. I normally had to charge my phone a couple times during the day since I’m on it so much, but this is so much better. I tried as hard as I could to kill it yesterday, was on YouTube streaming with 5G/ LTE, and still had 15%ish before bedtime. I work nights, so my times are different than most people posting. I have AOD on and keep brightness about halfway up.

Not too happy with my battery life so far. My 13 PM seems to out perform my 14 PM for now. Or am I over thinking? All that constant usage seems like it could be a bug.

You have some serious background processes running. Hence it max out every hour with 60minutes of combined on and off screen usage. Wait until 36-48 hours and then do a cold restart and charge it fully. It should improve after that. After installing iOS16 i did that on my 13PM and I got best battery life i have seen since iOS 15 and 15.2 After that it went straight down hill for me.

my 14pm battery was bad for the first 2 days, it drained like 20-30% overnight while i was sleeping

felt better on the 3rd day and now on my 5th day, i went to bed at 12am with the battery at 100% and when i woke up at 530am, it is still 100%

This is the life I’ve grown accustomed to courtesy of my 13PM. This 14 Pro is a great little machine, but the battery…not sure how I feel about that yet. Pro max battery life, iykyk

There's a bug for sure, my 14 Pro sucks battery as well. 80% when I entered bed, 63% this morning, always on display off.

My 13PM lasted 3 days, this 14P has to be charged 3 times a day for real 👎

And don't bs me about indexing and stuff, got this phone since friday and have everything in the cloud, so no local data. Hope they fix it asap

I did the 13 Pro to 14 Pro transition. After playing with it for a solid 24 hours, at the moment I would recommend anyone who's happy with their 13 Pro to hang onto it. The dynamic island is fine and fun but it's very limited at this time (it will be in full swing next year I'm sure!), the screen is very similar except for max brightness, and supposedly the 5G chipset and antennas have been improved since going to Qualcomm. Right now my Always-on-display is taking up extra battery so I turned it off. Might try it again in a few weeks once things settle.

It's an 'S' cycle upgrade IMO. If you have the money, grab a new one. If you don't or are on the fence for financial reasons, you're not missing out. The Verge and other reviewers agreed on the camera -- not a huuuuge difference but they are enjoying the 48MP ProRAW (up to 80MB file size though); you may enjoy some of their reviews.

Overall, familiar hardware with some small improvements, and certainly familiar software. Hope this kinda helps!
I’m pretty sure the 13 itself was an ‘S’ cycle upgrade

Joining mostly to keep an eye on how people to do, but at the moment I'm disappointed with the battery on my 14 Pro.
Every day has been almost out of charge by the end of the day. I'm having to nurse it more than my old 11 with a battery that needed service.

Friday, excused it due to setup / new toy
Saturday pretty heavy usage including background maps and being out of the house. Blamed it on 5G vs 4G (default 5G Auto setting)
Sunday also out of the house. Full charge at 1pm dead by 1am with heavy camera usage and some maps use
Monday 1.5 hour of Strava off charge at 11am and almost dead by 11pm.

Today's my first "normal" day since gettting it. Back at work and not planning on anything other than normal usage.
Let's see how it goes

It seems to be draining incredibly fast, but I do use it heavily. Still worse than my 13PM that I traded in, so I can’t even get it back.

A lot better today than over the weekend. Took off charge at 7:40 and now at 46%.
There was a sudden drop of about 5% at 9am other than that seems to have been OK.

Everything on, AOD, 5G Auto, Haptics, etc. Was on home WiFi for 90% of the day.

The only feature I might turn off is 5G unless I need it as I am well aware that is a drain.

Suspect 30%+ by bed. It still feels a bit measly, and I feel like I will need to give a good top up if I'm heading out to a gig in an evening, which shouldn't be the case with a brand new phone...
