I find the battery life on these pro phones attrocious! Coming for a 13 pro that would last me through the day easily, I can barely make it till 4pm before getting a low battery warning. AOD off and I’m not even doing anything beyond email, web, music, YouTube. I’ve turned off the battery % since it stresses me out seeing numbers dropping so quickly during use.

This is absolutely crazy…
16.0.1 was bad so I upgraded to 16.1 beta which seems equally terrible.
My wife’s pro is doing the same thing. May have to return it.

i wake and take my phone off the charger at 3:30am and the battery is now at 85% on my 14PM. I am not a super heavy user but did like 20-30 emails and 40+ texts. Even set up my Ultra watch! If you are not using you phone a lot, you need to return it.

It’s sad that I have a brand new phone and have to turn off all the features to make it through the day: hey Siri, AOD, crash detection, Lock Screen widgets, etc.

My 14 Pro Max has been off the charger for over 10 hours today, with 3 hours of screen active time, and I’m still at 78% o_O. Not sure if it’s me finally getting past all of the initial syncing and testing, changing my Lock Screen wallpaper from Astronomy to solid black and removing the Lock Screen widgets yesterday, or installing the 16.0.2 update last night, but the battery life seems a lot better suddenly.

My pro max is great. My wife’s pro is the problem. She uses her phone significantly less than me. I’m at 40%, she was down to 6% 3 hours ago and had to charge.

I'm extremely unhappy with my battery life on my 14 Pro. I'm averaging about 4-5 hours of SOT. I usually can get 8-9 hours of SOT with a new iPhone. I used my camera for 4 minutes total today and it says it's used up 19% of my battery. Home & Lock Screen has used up 9%, and I don't even have AOD on.

I'm not one to be this melodramatic, but iOS 16 is trash. It ruined battery life on my 13 Pro and now my new 14 Pro too. I think I'm going to start hunting Apple Stores 24/7 to get a Pro Max before my return period ends for the 14 Pro next Thursday. I just can't deal with a brand new phone that drains battery this fast. At this rate, I'm going to be charging twice a day and have 80% battery health in a year.

You should be able to get a pro max. I was doing the same thing this week and last couple of days inventory keeps popping up and disappearing lol, so just keep on it and move as soon as you see the configuration you want in your area.

Thanks, I hope you're right. And congrats on your switch. I've been checking it here, and my local store hasn't seemed to gotten Pro Maxes in inventory barely ever. I saw the exact model I wanted in a store an hour away earlier today, but it was gone by the time I tried to order it.

Thanks! I’m lucky to have a few stores I can get to during the workday. Yeah they seem to move quickly. You probably already know this, but you can save the configuration you want as a favorite in the Apple Store app, so you can get to it faster. Still have a few clicks after, but it helps. Anyway you can only control how frequently you check, the rest is luck and timing. Good luck, you got this 👍🏼😎

If you update to iOS 16 on say your iPhone 12 or 13 Pro, and then upgrade to the 14 Pro, will the indexing information be transferred as well to the new phone? Could this potentially have the new phone working less, thus not requiring as much battery power?

So I wanted to share my experience so far with my 14 PM.

Phone was bought from a big reseller in my country, sealed. I activated the phone and at that moment I haven't given it much importance to the fact that I noticed Guitar Hero was already installed (I deleted that app first thing since I don't use it). I never restore from backup, I always go with fresh install for everything and use the data/settings for apps from iCloud. For 6 days I struggled to find what is causing battery drain, it lost 15-20% over night, almost constantly Home & Lock Screen was #1 or #2 in power consumption (even with AOD off). Did all sorts of tests (settings on/off, reinstalled or uninstalled apps) and the only time when battery lost only 1% over night was when I left it with airplane mode on (AOD was on).
Yesterday I decided I was going to lose another 2-3 hours and redo everything from scratch:
- copied some photos that I took on the PC, used 3uTools to set the phone is Recovery Mode and used iTunes and the latest original IPSW (iPhone15,3_16.0.2_20A380_Restore.ipsw) to install it on the phone from Recovery Mode. As a note, I upgraded to 16.0.2 a few hours after it was available but it did not make any difference in that night so the same iOS version was tested before.
- re-activated the phone (of course this time it no longer had that Guitar Hero app). I've reconfigured the phone again with the same settings as before (AOD On, brightness auto, about 10 apps with notifications on, eSIM, background app refresh off, job email & slack set to push, dark mode, 5G On (95% of the time I used 5G not the wireless connection), Bluetooth on.
- almost 24 hours later and the battery is at 17% after: 3 h of Youtube playing full screen (mostly to test the battery), 9 GB of music downloaded from Deezer on 5G (I now get 1.0 Gb test speed on 5G), time it took to download and reconfigure all apps, a few phone calls etc.

So my conclusion is that the battery drain could have something to do with that iOS version that was first installed on the phone, at least in my case, because the difference is huge with the phone configured the same way.

This reporter from the MacRumors team came to the same conclusion:

Started this morning to use it at 100% didn’t even touch it whole morning as I was working and I’m getting atrocious battery life just look at this.

Can someone tell me if this is normal standby battery drain on a 14PM with AOD on.
This is on Wifi with 2-3 bars cellular. For me this locks pretty bad.
On Second day after Setup (no backup used) It only dropped around 1% per hour with AOD.
Only added some apps and paired an Apple Watch and this drain is worse than my two year old 12PM With more or less the same setup
No apps listed with background activity.

How is my battery. Haven’t updated to latest software tho. Last charge to 100 last night at 9:00 pm. Also Facebook has been in the background for 8 hours. Should I turn off background app refresh on Facebook.

I've had a 14 Pro since release day and battery life seems terrible. I've mostly been at home and using my MBP and iPad for the past two weeks, so I've had many days where the iPhone just sits on my desk all day, and yet it loses a huge amount of battery — far more than my 13 Pro would lose while idle.
