Thank you early adopters 🤣🤣
I know, but the excitement of a new phone/tech/thing really trumps waiting.
For a product that sells in the millions, I'm not surprised if there are few lemons in there. Personally, I've found the the right formula for when to buy a new iPhone is 6 months after launch. My iPhone X is a testament to that. My 6s while good still has some issues.
Manufacturing 101. There’s always a defect %
Watching the video... wow... that looks like a speaker when you are pumping bass heavy music through it...
Yep, you can feel it while holding the phone when it happens.
The article implies that returning the phone for a replacement addressed the problem. And if you don't work in tech and you've never worked remotely, you probably shouldn't be talking about the experience.
I wish I had the option for returns and exchanges in the country I am, even though I pay $1k more than the USA price.
If it’s hardware I return it and rebuy it
first world perks, third world ******** problems. I can understand this perspective.
Third party apps never had the chance to beta test the iOS with the new hardware until the phones were released a few days ago. But wouldn't Apple's internal QA test the most popular apps to make sure their basic functionality is not affected by the new hardware?
for the past many years iOS has had a big up over camera tech being used in third party apps over android. With all the tech demos. I’m certain developers get access to new hardware before everyone else. This is unacceptable, but since I’m not a devout Snapchat user, or have easy exchanges/returns I’ve just deleted it and living happy.
It only happened once. Killed the app, and then it never came back (yet). Just be sure if it does happen, that u quit the app asap. Then, test with the Default Camera app to make sure focusing on objects still works properly, as that's part of what can potentially break.
I did the same, but the close focus capabilities are not nice.
I have the same problem. It's not frequent, but it has happened to me a couple of times. The strange sound happened to me in applications like Snapchat.
Same
Maybe there some dust stuck in the lens causing it to vibrate ?

Check all.
Nope. This is heavy rattling

Yeah I'm thinking my close focus is not working now that I do some tests. I'm not sure. I'll do more tests tomorrow. Already logged a case with Apple in case my 14 day return window goes away, so I can tell them I reported it.

close focus on the 14 Pro is different than the 13 Pro due to the different focal length. so that is normal

Are you sure you want it if they're not happy to be there?

Since we're all doing speculation, I would guess the small design teams have been meeting in person, and if this is affected by Covid in any way it's probably more so that Apple employees have not been in China as much as usual.

That's if it's affected by Covid. It could just be typical Apple secrecy where no teams are allowed to talk to each other completely so the final product at the end is affected by unforeseen issues between hardware and software because they literally don't let the hardware and software people talk to each other which all but makes certain there will be unforeseen issues . . . because they want it to be unforeseen. Which makes me wonder why being in person is so important. They don't want people talking that much anyway.
Well said.
Which makes me thinking: maybe WFH isnt the root cause of all of those issues after all. It’s just that those issues happen DURING COVID, aka coincidence, rather than the consequence.
Apple‘s silo management philosophy has been around for maybe more than 15 years. Maybe it is time for a change?

#Rattle&AHumGate

However I have been so busy this weekend that I still have my Gold 14 Pro Max sealed in its box sitting in my office. I think I’ll now wait until my TIK Kit arrives before I open it up. Hopefully Apple will release an update to fix these issues.

Work from home quality. This is probably the first iPhone to be developed mostly during Covid.

Now we know why Cook is adamant about workers returning to the office. "Working" from the beach is over. Tim Cook has all the data on the lack of productivity and employee disengagement.

I'm sure Tim Cook also has the data on attrition due to forced return to the office. According to some accounts, quality has been negatively affected due to loss of expertise, with this release having been particularly hard hit.

A good friend of mine has been at Apple for 13 years now. He’s been forced back to the office very much against his and most of his peers will.

He said this last launch was rough because of how much brain drain had happened due to the force back to the office. A lot of stuff that should have been taken care of wasn’t. His words.

But hey, everything on the internet is made up, so the above is probably fake too.

It's the incredibly stupid and embarrassing bugs, hardware defects, and delays after delays for product launches. All of these have increased in frequency since WFH.

Right, we know there haven't been any supply chain issues the last few years, so clearly it all must be due to WFH. And it's not like anyone ever complained about Apple's declining software quality before COVID. Sure, a few bugs escaped here and there, but never so bad that the tech blogosphere took notice and talked about it.

I've noticed a different camera issue. When trying to scan barcode or qr code I need to move my phone away from the code. Otherwise the picture is all blurred. Not sure it's related to ultra wide lens or is it a legitimate bug.

Give me an iPhone that is made in China over an iPhone made in India or the USA.

The work ethic and diligence of Chinese workers can't be matched.

I won't buy an iPhone unless it's made in China.
Hard disagree. I am using India made iPhone 12 and friend is using 11. Both our devices have been flawless for 2 years. In fact, I prefer India made iPhones now.

And is it ALL 3rd party apps that utilize the camera? Because if only a few than its the app that needs to be updated.

I mean. If you open outlook and try to take a photo does it vibrate?

Nah, it shouldn't be possible in the first place to develop an app that physically breaks the camera. Something is wrong at the hardware, software, API, firmware, or driver level causing this. Third party app devs are not to blame here.

Since it's social media apps that seem to be doing it, they're probably all using a certain API call that is triggering the camera to spaz out - an API that is developed and provided by Apple.

The real questions are:

1. Can this be fixed by an iOS update? And if not, oh boy do we have a big replacement program on our hands.

2. Are they going to replace each phone that exhibits this issue? It seems from early reports that once the camera has jiggled around, it has likely suffered permanent damage.

3. How widespread the issue is.

4. What caused it?

We should have someone test out the minimum distance required for the main camera to focus, then compare ours. This is the only way we can know if our cameras are ok. As it stands, I am disappointed with the lack of focussing at distances I would not expect to require macro mode.

Following the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, some early adopters of the devices have noticed that the rear camera's main lens vibrates uncontrollably in third-party apps with camera functionality, such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, resulting in shaky video. The issue does not appear to affect the built-in Camera app.

iPhone-14-Pro-Rear-Camera.jpg

The issue has been reported by users across Twitter, Reddit, TikTok, and the MacRumors Forums since the iPhone 14 Pro models launched on Friday, but it is unclear how widespread the problem is or what the underlying cause is. The main lens on iPhone 14 Pro models features "second-generation" sensor-shift optical image stabilization, and it is possible that the stabilizer is acting up due to a software bug, but this is merely speculation.

YouTuber Luke Miani said he experienced the issue on one of the iPhone 14 Pro Max units that he was testing. Miani shared a video of the issue that shows the main lens on the device vibrating uncontrollably, and he said the incident resulted in the lens being unable to focus properly in subsequent usage, even in the Camera app. Miani said that he took the iPhone to an Apple Store and was able to exchange the device for a new one.

If the issue is due to a software bug, Apple could implement a fix in the iOS 16.1 beta. We have reached out to Apple asking if it is aware of and/or investigating the issue, but the company has yet to respond to our request for comment.

Until the matter is resolved, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max owners should avoid opening the camera in apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram if they are concerned about potential damage to the rear camera system. We will share any additional information about this issue, including any response from Apple, as it becomes available.

Wonder what the next 48 hours holds for this disaster phone launch…the first have been nothing less than a sh— show

This launch is getting better and better.
It is better than the 12Pro launch. Raised black display, which never went away and i had 3 phone replacements, and 2 screen replacements in the two years i owned it. Never fixed.

Point number 2 is what concerns me. They will happily exchange your phone in the states Or in first world countries. I am **** out of luck on that. I do believe that my camera is also damaged to some extent. I will know that only if everyone has the same poor close level focussing abilities.
