iPhone 14 Pro Display Panels Reveal New Pill-and-Hole Design Replacing Notch

I'd rather the notch, TBH. The notch is probably less conspicuous when things are displayed on the screen. The notch doesn't appear to extend as far down as this new design. Will there be less pixels available in full screen mode if the pill area is turned into a black border, or will the pill sit inside the viewable content?

To my eyes, the Max pill version is higher than the Max notch version and yet the pill still appears lower to my eyes.

This isn't about developers having to do more work. In fact odds are they won't even be able to even if they wanted to or tried. Apple has very strict rules about putting content around the notch, and that will likely carry over into here too.

Personally I always liked the notch. The pill seems weird but I want to see it in person with the screen on and decide how I feel about it. As it stands I’d rather have the notch.

Well it would make sense for someone to change their mind after they see it in person and use it

What content do they need to put around the pill? Don't they just need to make sure no content that is important to the app doesn't fall on the pill so that it's visible?

You also don't know how Apple will treat this and I'm pretty sure they'll be working to make it as easy as possible for developers to alter what they need to if this screen actually does come out. They'd be foolish not to.

I suspect the application safe area will be basically the same on all 2022 models.

As mentioned, the area around the pill (and notch) would be for stuff like video.

You mean vs the content you don't see at all with a notch at full screen?

Go watch a video on a pill shaped Android phone vs a notched iphone. If you don't like it and prefer the notch then hey you can still buy notched iphones so you're all good.

They will get way, way, way, way more sales with a non-Pro Max than a mini. Mini has had terrible sales.

If you own last year's iPhone, you are not in Apple's target market for this year's iPhone.
 
It doesn't really add any additional space, they're just doing it for the sake of making it look like they're changing the design. Get rid of FaceID and just have a single hole for the camera.

Oh don’t worry baby rain over here I think the 13 mini will still be for sale for another year even if they drop the maximum storage from 512 GB to back to 256 GB will see

Now imagine 13 mini with a pill shape Face ID, That green would really be immersive

Exactly, I find it appealing to have more visible full screen or full screen video, gaming content etc.

Let's be real having a notch or any cutouts on a screen isn't ideal. I don't find any of it to be a cool design feature. Give me the Jonny Ive experience of an uninterrupted flat piece of glass screen vs. both but I'll take more visible screen as my preference even if it's some weird pill and circle design. It also makes an i or ! so I can see those marketing opportunities around it as well.

Plus if you want a notch phone they still exist. You just won't be able to get the latest pro model. (if the pill design actually happens)
