Whatever it doesn't really matter. Yeah the notch is totally outdated and ugly and the pill cut out is just slightly better.

But let's cut to the chase, what really needs major redoing an overhauling is iOS itself. It feels stuck in the year 2010

So no design changes on the 14 and 14 Max? The notch on both looks like the one on iPhone 12, not iPhone 13. Weird. Seems fake.

2010? A bit of an overstretch no?

I wonder if Apple is trying to project the screen over the camera hole like that Android phone just implemented and this design makes it easier for them to do so. Maybe it will hide and all we’re seeing is the housing and making judgement calls. Wishful thinking at least. I still prefer it over the notch regardless.

Meh. Riding out my 13 mini until the wheels fall off. No more plus or max phones. Tired of bricks.

Can’t fault Apple for literally putting the i in the iPhone. 😂

What's the betting that since the 'pill punch' takes up much more vertical space than the notch ... that the 'pro' phones will enable two rows of status icons on the top?

Showing battery percentages is a pro feature, don't you know?

Also the notch, the pill and hole punch, the weird over designed camera bumps - it's all just about branding, regardless of wether it's aesthetically good design.

The iPhone - home buttoned or notched or with this odd combo pill and hole punch aim to be unmistakable at a glance, in a sea of glass rectangles.

Hmmm, the Dread Pirate Change Aversion.

Seeing as I’m a Android hold-out still (you know, slow USB 2.0) and an avid notch-hater, this is perfect. To my brain, it’s easier to blur out a hole than a notch.

And like everything else in the world, once you’re used to it changing away from it will always be difficult even if it’s for the better.

But this will be completely fine for everyone eventually….even I could live with a notch. Transferring 2gb video file over 2.0 not so much. And yeah yeah wifi schmifi. When it works I will use it.

All the moaning is a bit pathetic really. If Apple had just not had a notch and stopped the screen lower, giving a wide bezel at the top people would have asked for them to have extended the screen at the sides.

I see each side of the notch as bonus screen space, doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Far more important things to get annoyed about That do not include Apple devices.

Hello,

My friend who is working for Samsung Display in Vietnam confirmed that they are testing in huge volume of pill-and-hole screen. This will be the final choice for iPhone 14 series (as his experience).

Yes, recent rumours about pill-and-hole screen are true, but the thickness of bezel of the Pro is the same as regular model and 13 series. My friend said that it looks so weird and annoying, for the notch screen the view is continuous, we know where the border of the screen is while in pill-and-hole screen the view is discontinued and distracted sometimes.

The pill-and-hole, in actual, will bigger than render photos we see on the internet.

Apple's upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models are widely rumored to feature new displays with a pill-shaped cutout and a hole for the Face ID sensors and front camera, respectively, and now a real-world look at this design has seemingly surfaced.

Front glass panels for all four iPhone 14 models have allegedly surfaced on Chinese social media website Weibo, as shared on Twitter by @SaranByte and reported by 9to5Mac. The panels reveal not only the rumored pill-and-hole design for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but also slightly thinner bezels and a taller aspect ratio for those models.

As expected, the image also shows that the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models will retain the same notch as iPhone 13 models.

While it is unclear if the image is legitimate, the front glass panels line up with all rumors that we have heard about iPhone 14 models so far, and similar leaks have occurred in the past. Last year, for example, MacRumors exclusively shared an image of front glass panels for all iPhone 13 models that proved to be accurate.

The pill-and-hole design for iPhone 14 Pro models has been reported by sources including display industry consultant Ross Young and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Other rumored iPhone 14 Pro features include a 48-megapixel rear camera, an upgraded front camera with autofocus, and more, with full details available in our iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro roundups.

I never liked the bump as it stops me using the whole screen to watch widescreen movies on short flights when it is more convenient than MacBook. This looks as though it interferes more. Bad idea from folks who normally get it right. Probably wait another year to get one without the holes.

I agree, the new design is hideously ugly & would be distracting when watching videos.

They are the 13 ones as they have the cut out above where the speaker goes, the 12 has the speaker in the glass panel. I noticed that these two new notchless designs still have a smaller cut out for the speaker to go above. Personaly I think it looks hideous, but I'm sure I'll get used to it, well if its there in a few years time as my 13 Pro wont be updated this year, to many price hikes on more important things. Latest and greatest isn't always the case either, but this model may be the last Qualcomm modem version and if so that may just make me want to update but only a littl;e bit. I don't trust Apple to get the complexities of a 5G modem right the first or second time tbh. Qualcomm owns so many patents and before people yell "Apple silicon" modems are a lot harder to make than CPU's as Intel showed us in iPhones that had intel modems. Qualcomm are still way ahead of the game.

What a horrible looking step back, I guess Apple listened to all the whiners. I'd be curious if it hangs lower than the current notch, if we lose a few pixels of real estate because it hangs lower that's definitely a step back. Notch isn't perfect, but much better looking than this. Notch never bothered me in the least, but this would stick out really badly.
