This is an ongoing ios16 problem that I don't see getting fixed anytime soon. You literally have to play WR on low settings. The game isn't optimized for iPhone 14 as seen by us not being able to play on 120 fps. And the ios 16 isn't optimized for anything it seems like except for whatever new features they are using that are more annoying than anything. I should've stayed with my iPhone 13 pro max on ios 15.7 as that was the last ios to not have fps drops and played 120 fps WR flawlessly

Yep I feel same way. Still having consistent issues..

Have you tried disabling promotion and see if fps was stable? If yes which games?

Because we have already tried that.

I used to develop for iOS and I can say that from experience, there are some games that will show some FPS/stuttering issues because they're not specifically optimized to handle how ProMotion switches refresh rates. In many cases, any FPS issues caused by ProMotion are barely noticeable, but in some games such as Call Of Duty Mobile, the issue is exhibited slight stuttering in the game play smoothness.

Most games are not optimized for 120 FPS, and will run at 30 or 60 FPS. In many cases, switching ProMotion off can resolve FPS issues, though your game will run at a maximum of 60 FPS, which is perfectly fine even for racing games.

14 pro max is stuttering like crazy in a few of my games, not all of them though. Do we have to wait for developers to properly optimize their games for the new tech?

Hardware changes are always going to make some games run strange. This happens with every iPhone release. Developers need to be aware of this and not assume its going to work uniformly.
ive been working with Nintendo over a month about this issue with hardware and software techs sending video after video. Its not the game or the app. Its something built within iOS 16. This happened before with iOS 13. Once apple figured it out and released 13.x it was fixed app wide with no updates needed. Its apple that needs to fix this

The problem is fixed and I’m running 120 fps in wild rift on iPhone 14 pro max. It was wildrift that fixed it not apple. The vex update seemed to resolve the issue. I haven’t even updated iOS to 16.1 yet and just played a game.

I just upgraded the system to iOS 16.2 Beta. Nothing is changed. FPS still drops severely. (iPhone 14 Pro Max)

When did wildrift support 120 fps? Mine still can not be stable at 60 pfs.

Wild rift has been supporting 120 for months now.

Thank you very much for your reply. I just checked my wildrift. It did support 120 Hz now. At least it is playable now. However, I tested the 120 Hz mode, and the FPS constantly fluctuated between 62 and 120 Hz (even when I had just entered the game). It could not stabilize at 120 Hz. Do you have the same experience?

It’s probably gonna be like that for a while. We just got the option to use 120 on iPhone 14 pro max. It wasn’t available just last week so I assume they are aware of the fps issue with iOS 16. I’m sure Riot got a bunch of reports about it plus there were multiple Reddit posts about it. Also 120 still has the warning at the start about device performance on 120, I don’t think they’ve perfected the option because you still cannot use super high graphics on 120.

Hi guys, I am from Germany and also have the same problems as you with my iPhone 14 pro Max. I always play wild rift on my device and have the same fps drops as you. The settings are regulated to 60 fps in the game but I always have drops that go down to 53 fps which I can not understand at all on such a device. About a month ago I still had my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it ran perfectly with iOS 15 but after I installed iOS 16 the drops also started on the iPhone 13. As a comparison, I also downloaded a game from Apple Arcade Gear Club Stradale and that was as good as unplayable all the time drops the fps. The benchmarks on my device are almost identical to those found on the internet. My brother has the same device and he also has the same problems. Hard to imagine that the A16 chip can be faulty I think it's the Apple software or gaming software. Forgot to say, I also play wild rift on my iPad Pro with the A12Z chip and it runs perfect with the same settings and IPadOS 16.

I spoke to a senior Advisor at Apple about this yesterday. It's happening in almost all games, and there's a micro-stutter when touching the screen in many games. They are aware of this issue, it seems to be fixed when using a bluetooth controller in a game. Its very strange but they will likely fix it in an update soon.

Good to know that something will be done soon. At first I really thought that my device had a hardware problem. Thanks for the quick feedback.

Thanks for the information. Hope they are really taking it seriously. It's been a while.

Yeah Genshin impact on iOS 16.1 is unplayable for me on an iPhone 14 pm. Constantly stuttering.

Have you tried the iOS 16.2 beta? If so, is it fixed? I’ve been having the same stuttering issues in MKT, Brawl Stars, Crossy Road, and more. Super annoying and hoping it’s solved soon. Reported these issues to the corresponding developers.

For those of you having FPS issues with BeatStar. Both myself and my wife upgraded our phones at the same time (11 pro max, 12 pro max) to the 14 pro max. I did a full iCloud restore from my 11 pro max backup and have been having nothing but issues with BeatStar randomly dropping frames in multiple songs. My wife's phone wasn't having any issues at all. I tried several of the same songs between both devices and mine was garbage and her's was flawless. I had a Genius appointment to point this out and ask if they could run some tests or maybe admit to having a bad batch of displays in the wild. Anyway I tried one more thing. It sucks but I setup my phone from scratch, not doing a restore and only downloaded the 1 app - BeatStar. It has been working flawlessly with no FPS drops for several days now. I'll report back if I notice anything but I'm assuming it's related to other apps installed. I'm starting to believe one of the previous posts from the iOS engineer and how it was mentioned its the way the OS manages memory. I know I've read others saying it's the same whether you do a full restore or from scratch but in my case the from scratch setup has fixed my issue.
