this is due to the screen refresh rate not automatically comes down to match the game maximum frame rate, most likely a software issue..

if you play 60 fps game with 120hz screen it will become stuttering when input is registered on the screen..

this is same with android phone, i have a poco x3 pro where u can "Lock" the refresh rate of the phone to force 120hz at all time, if this option is enabled, when u play game with maximum fps of 60 it will stutter..

Most likely its the bug with promotion that does not lowers the refresh rate to match the game

Thats likely the case but how can it be fixed? The developer of 'Beatstar' responded to a comment on Reddit about it, saying they couldn't find a workaround and all they can do is wait for Apple to fix it.

I don’t think this is entirely on Apple’s side to fix. I was having issues with Pokémon Go at launch, but these issues have been fixed by and update on their side. I’m sure there are certain applications that were made in such a way that implementing the fix would be a massive change to the way the app works or even game breaking. I definitely think Apple needs to fix the issue on their side, but I think the developers need to update their apps as well

Actually, having thought about it, the issue - at least what I am experiencing - is not at all related to this.
I have stutter in all games that have ProMotion support, and whenever that is enabled, games stutter randomly after touch input. Without touch input it works perfectly. The same games also run flawless when ProMotion is turned off in the game (not system-side). I strongly suspect Apple has messed something up deep in the code, and even they are having a hard time figuring it out, if they're at all working on this with priority. I guess there aren't enough complaints coming in..

On my S22 Ultra there is the same type of stuttering in some games and the fix is to lock the frame-rate at 60 in the phone's settings. According to Samsung, the phone doesn't recognize that you're playing a game so its constantly trying to adjust the frame-rate to your touch interactions when you have a variable refresh rate. I would guess the iPhone is trying to do the same but it sucks that we can't lock the frame rate at 60. We can only limit it to 60. Which still makes it fluctuate.

It's def apple. iPhone 13 Pro running latest iOS Mario Kart is smooth as heck. Same setup on 14 Pro is very laggy with stuttering. Ive sent all the video evidence to Nintendo and Apple. Both just point at each other.

If it was Apple then the iPhones previous to the 14 Pro line would have the exact same stuttering.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro have different displays with different refresh rate capabilities and different display controllers. If the issue was entirely with Apple, no apps could have fixed their issues, but multiple apps have been fixed since launch. The issue is a combination of Apple and the specific app’s code

Which apps have fixed such issues?

The issue is entirely Apple lol. When the 13 Pro first launched, Mario Kart tour stuttered the same way. Apple finally released an update that resolved many games with the stutter including MKT. MKT never once had an update. Im guessing Apple does not know how to resolve this issue. Last year the fix came before December.

Im hoping it comes soon and I know it will, but Apple needs to fix this.

Are you not reading anything I’m saying? How is it possible that apps have fixed the issue if it’s entire Apple’s fault? Why do only some apps have this issue while others don’t if it’s only an issue with Apple? Do you have any evidence that it’s actually entirely Apple’s fault besides an entirely different issue on the iPhone 13?

Yeah are you not reading me? I am ONLY talking about MKT. I dont care what other games have it, because I only experience it in MKT. It happened when the 13 Pro released, Apple fixed it. Now the 14 Pro has released, and Apple hasnt fixed it.

Nintendo hasn’t fixed the issue either. Other developers can fix it, so that means Nintendo can fix the issue as well. They’re simply choosing not to. Just because Apple has the ability to change something on their end that fixes Nintendo’s app, doesn’t mean the issue is Apple’s fault. The issue with the 13 was an entirely different issue

dude other game devs of big games like beatstar have come out and said there is nothing they can do on their end. Just bc some apps may have found a workaround for their game doesn’t absolve apple of releasing an OS that caused this issue in the first place. If a zillion games all break at the same time on the same os update it is not the individual game makers issue. Bootlicking Apple doesn’t solve anything.

I’m not sure you’re understanding what I’m saying. I never said Apple wasn’t at fault. I never said Apple doesn’t need to and shouldn’t release an update for an issue that exists on their end. All I’m saying is the issue isn’t black and white. It’s not entirely apple’s fault and it’s not entirely the developers fault

Pokémon Go, true skate, and megapolis are the ones I frequently use that have fixed the issue entirely
That indeed is interesting. Did they mention the fixes in their release notes by the way? Do all these apps support ProMotion? :O For instance, in Pokemon Go, I did not see any notes regarding ProMotion.

Pokémon Go supports ProMotion, but it’s buried deep in the settings (it can be enabled by selecting use native refresh rate). I did not see any mention in the release notes, but I didn’t look (and the fix was implemented at least a few weeks ago). I do know there was a general “bug fixes” update around the time it got fixed

And where exactly can i find this Option in the Settings? I didnt see it. By the way i tested LOL wild rift and its still stuttering…

True Skate is still stuttering. I've confirmed this with the dev (Jeff) and he said it's an iOS/iPhone 14 pro issue.
You’re right. I just checked the app and it still seems to be stuttering on my end, though the stuttering seems to be much better than it was at release

The Update did minimize The problem, but its running in a lower FPS in general - but animations are still quicker. It has NOT fixed The problem. I also noticed that my Pokemon GO runs Way smoother at Night time, and is easy noticable when my phone hasn’t been used for hours. In the Day time, even when I haven’t used the phone for hours, theres still a sluggish/stuttering problem even though it’s periodically. Generally the game feels quicker and more smooth, but when playing PvP, the differences are very noticable. Also when screen recording, the problem seems not noticable. Im beginning to think the chip is faulty, and Apple are trying to cover it up, by pressuring companion and devs.
