I sure can tell my iPhone has now a monster battery life.

I wasn't talking about battery life
And they won't notice this meager improvement ever. Phones are so ridiculously fast already that no benchmark score increase actually matters anymore.

In a sea of iPhones last week from a "meagre" X to a 13 Pro at our coffee club I didnt notice anyones particularly faster or slower than my 12.......bar battery life and the very occasional game its a game of tech specs.....much like car speeds these days....willy waving for the boys mostly.... Bristol is 20mph everywhere now so I find it odd that 0-60 and 150 top speed are even a thing.....

“A Geekbench test result for iPhone15,3, the identifier for the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌, shows the new iPhone with a single-core score of 1879 and a multi-core score of 4664. The iPhone 13 Pro scores 1707 in single-core and 4659 in multi-core, only being marginally slower than the latest high-end ‌iPhone‌.”

Why do you all think CPU performance is the most important aspect in a new iPhone ?
Most of the features (like the new photography system, the always on screen, satelit communication, crash detection, etc) is *not* based, or not completely based on the CPU, but on other bricks of the SOC.
And if you really are interested in running weather prediction models on the iPhone CPU, let's wait for a few more benchmarks before choosing the right one.

I notice myself that with Geekbench the numbers can vary often especially if the phone is just unpackaged and using background tasks. With that improved single core score, the multicore has to be higher especially as it has the same numbers of cores as the predecessor. I feel better multicore scores (likely same 10% improvement) will come in later as people do more subsequent tests.

This might also shed some light on the future Mx SOC speed increases.
Seems like a 10% increase, single core, could become the standard..? Not bad, if you ask me.

Thats still better than the Ryzen 5 chip in my father’s girlfriends new HP laptop, which has six performance cores but tops out at 1150 single-core and 4500 multi-core in Geekbench.

You seriously do not need more compute power in a smartphone, while you do need more battery life (which translates to fewer cycles on the battery per year, and so greater longevity on the battery).

That's a 10% jump in single-core performance - the metric that is going to make the most difference in day to day usage of the phone. I'll take a quiet multi-core year if we get major energy consumption and heat-output reductions as a result.
Also, we know when it comes to the M3, multi-core performance scales almost linearly by just packing in more cores, so I'm not concerned for Apple Silicon on the Mac.
10% is pretty good considering how fast the A15 already is. There’s no way we can keep expect huge leaps in performance year over year without a significant change in technology.

Never. This is the basis for the M-series chips, but an actual M-series chip would draw far more power for no benefit on an iPhone-class device. M-series chips are also physically much larger than A-series chips.
The naming of the chips is all down to marketing. The A14 and M1 already share CPU and GPU cores, as well as other features like the Neural engine. The same is true for the A15 and M2. So it would be entirely out of place to rename the iPhone chips M1 Mobile, M2 Mobile etc.

Why does Apple always say "We've created our fastest chip ever...."
They are hardly going to create a newer handset with a slower chip, so it's quite obvious that the chips will get faster with each new iteration, isn't it?

Doesn't every company do the same thing?

Well, this seems like Apple literally used a revised version of the same processor. You may as well state that they are equal. Therefore, there is really no processor update. Why make it smaller with no significant improvements, a waste.

Sticking with the iphone 13 pro since its using nearly the same processor as the iphone 14 pro. This has to be Apple's least interesting update to the iphone in a long time. Oh, they also share the same 6gb ram smh.

They improved most in power efficiency, which I’d actually prefer at this point. Let’s be honest, even an Iphone XS doesn’t feel sluggish. When’s the last time you used an iPhone that did??
Indeed. I'm going to pay Apple £69 for a new battery, and keep my brand new looking XR for a fifth year!

So the price in Denmark is up 350$ tier for tier compared to last year launch price. The satellite phone is not working in EU OR WORLD - and no improvement really - I think this will be the first EVER iPhone I skip :(
Price in Denmark is 1500$ for the iPhone 14 pro.

This is bad. And they are grooming you now into getitng used to barely any upgrades for more $ down the line.

And they will bring up some budget Android phone and show you how the industry is still trying to catch up to the A13.

Same performance per clock, but clock speed has increased 7.1%, from 3.23 GHz to 3.46 GHz.

BTW, I find it amusing people were complaining about iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus getting “only” A15. 😜

Wouldn't it be the horsepower to establish a desktop-mode like SAMSUNG Dex ?

~$1410, although the point still stands. It's bloody expensive.

Well the A15 SoC is still a monster of a mobile chip. I've no complaints about speed, but haven't since the 6S Plus. I'm keeping my 13 Pro for another year, tempting as the 14 Pro Max is. Ordered the Watch Ultra instead. 😜
