That just doesn't make any sense at all.
If moving a camera notch away from the edge of the screen doesn't make sense, then yes you're correct.

If my comment about offsetting the camera notch from the edge of the screen waste the screen space between notch and display edge doesn't make sense, then you are incorrect; because it make does make sense.

If you're going to move the camera notch off of the display's edge with screen real-estate in between the notch and screen edge, you may as well put it in the center. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Hole punch camera displays are "look what we can do" designs, nothing more.

im not offended by the notch. would i prefer a hole punch or under display camera? hell yeah but whatever... the notch doesn't bother me in the slightest.

i might be tempted to sell my 12 Pro Max towards a 14 Pro Max. the 12 is an amazing phone and my battery is life is still good. (at 99% health and had it since launch) but i have the itch for something new.

as for sizes... i wish apple would make a larger device. for me 6.7" is still too small. give me a 7-7.5" phone pls.

It'd be pretty surprised if they do this. I can't see them fiddling with the notch again until they can get rid of the it entirely.

Maybe I've not been looking, but were are the "13 Mini sales suck" news reports? We had so many for the 12 and nothing for the 13... maybe, just maybe, it's actually selling well?
or maybe it's just common knowledge the mini phones don't sell?

even if it is selling well it's not gonna change apples plans. 2022 iphone plans are likely set in stone now so if the rumors are true we're getting only 6.1/6.7. if you want a small phone then just get the SE which Apple is apparently releasing a new version of next year.

in 2023 there will be another SE with a more modern design so again no need for a Mini. maybe in 2024 we might see a smaller non SE iPhone but i doubt it.

Lol, the 12 Mini outsold the 13 & 13 Pro in September, only the 13 Pro Max seems to have sold well.

SE Sales look to have tanked, so those new SE rumours could be on the ball.

After the MacBook Pro getting a huge notch for just a camera I can’t see them removing it from the iPhone

Not going to happen. In case nobody noticed, the new MacBook Pro GOT a notch it never had and never needed. Apple loves its notch. It’s their ugly brand identity.
Exactly I got the M1 max and the camera sucks so bad it could of been put in the small notch like dell but they want it there for marketing so no way they will remove it for the iPhones also apps would all need updating

What is the perfect distance you prefer for the hole punch to be away from the edge of the display?

1. 3mm
2. 4mm
3. 6mm
4. 10mm
5. 0mm... so touching the edge of the display and integrated with the bezel.

Next year's model is also rumored to include a 48 Mpx image sensor for the Back Wide.

That mean's the dreaded Pixel Binning in next year's model :(

As such, the Back Wide image sensor in the 13 Pro Max could be the best that Apple "ever" offers !

That's the #1 reason I upgraded from my 11 Pro Max a week OR so ago, when I was in Silicon Valley over the Thanksgiving holiday.

We shall see. I knew we wouldn’t have the notch forever and eventually it would go away.

Edit: I honestly wondered why they didn't go punch hole this time around. They're certainly quite capable of it.
Probably because when the design team was throwing out numbers for how far the hole punch should be away from the edge of the display... 3mm?, 5mm?, 10mm, one of the designer's kid, visiting the space ship on "take your kid to work day", walked into the office and said, "why not have it against the display's edge integrated with the bezel?" They then looked at each other and replied in unison, "Genius!" /s

Hole punch makes zero sense. lol

5 without a doubt. Get the camera out of the screen or as close to out of the screen as it can get. Push the notch array as close to the outer edge of the phone as they can and make the notch as shallow as humanly possible.

The notch somehow felt like old tech when it launched. If they’d replaced it after a year that would’ve felt overdue. So this is definitely a good thing.
