Oddly I like the pill render that someone did, anyway they just reduced the size of the notch and put all the components into a smaller area, so I cant see it happening and this punch hole render has been repeated here so many times, including for the 13 I think, Apple wont go back to touch ID now, although having it on the power button with masks being a thing that never really went away would be great for people that don't use Apple watches (my Tag is 21 years old looks immaculate and is all I need in a watch still)

I don't think the 14 will be a radical change tbh. After all its not like Apple are trying new things like folding phones (don't care if you hate them at least its different and companies are trying new ideas) Apple plays it safe with incremental updates in a market that is now saturated with glass and metal rectangles. I just wish iOS wasn't such a bloated buggy mess, the hardware is great, the software not so much. iOS is getting more bloated with things I end up turning off each year. I'd prefer they work on that more tbh and to whoever said this years design was a rush considering the antenna is built into the sides and they even reduced the complexity of components for face ID which is no mean feat even if its tiny reduction I bet it saves them enough $ to be worth it and it feels more responsive I have to say. So I cant see them ditching the notch just yet, but since other companies have put cameras under OLED panels so they should be able to, but I guess if it effects the accuracy/security in anyway they wont.

Just got my 12 Mini yesterday, and it actually fits in my pocket, but then so did my SE 1st gen, only this time there is more screen, just enough. It really is the best of all worlds, a keeper as far as I'm concerned.

I really don't get the idea behind massive phones. If you want a bigger screen, get a tablet.
A 6.1" screen does not make a tablet in my view and gives me a device I can handle with ease and have more real estate for browsing and media consumption and helps my ageing eyes a bit too (Max is to big for me) and a 12.9" iPhone would be ridiculous. ;)

After using my mini for a while, I'm like 'who cares about the notch." I don't even notice it.

I've been using my new 12 Mini for less than a day and I've already forgotten about the notch, at least I kinda like the way the time then wifi/cell signal and battery are tucked up in the 'wing's. Watching Netflix simply ends the side before the notch, so no, you don't see the notch when watching movies.

Hole punch display? Whatever.

iPhone 15 will be the one to buy then. Not paying iPhone X style prices for dated technology.

I've gone from buying every year till around the iPhone 7, then every 2 years till the iPhone 11... I'll probably move to every 4 years now. Am I getting old or are the upgrades simply not worth it any more?

Yes, 6.1" can probably still be considered a phone. Also, I'm starting to need a slightly bigger display at my age, but I still want something small enough to easily carry around, and use with one hand.

Let Apple bring out bigger phones, if that's what people want, but why kill off the smaller ones? How small does the market have to get before it's considered unviable?

Would be a nice improvement but I can’t believe it. Beside the front camera, Face ID utilities 3 different lenses - how would they be able to move all these 3 under the display with all the problems that occur with cameras and sensors under the display?

Even an iPad mini is more than twice as big (40.8 sq in vs. 19.4 sq in).

Don't see what the big obsession is with this notch. I mean does anyone actually use their iPhone and say, "Gosh, how can I get anything done with this notch in my way...??"
It's more of a distraction that reduces the utility of the device in some situations. If the point of removing the bezels is to have a usable edge-to-edge screen, then the notch demonstrates complete design failure. I use my phone to view images, read documents and watch videos. Unless the application designs around it, or I take actions to avoid it, the notch distracts from the user experience in those cases. In other situations it may not matter.

Actually, why is it always the small, "cheaper" iPhones that don't sell well? I would have thought that people find iPhones expensive and too big. Shouldn't the iPhone Mini be more popular? I think it's the best iPhone ever and it doesn't make much sense to me.

I really don’t care, as long as they are keeping FaceID precision and security. The notch never bothered me, and the reduced one on my iPhone 13 pro really is ok.

That’s because screen estate still is a point for many.

Yes but it’s a major aesthetic change (for the better)..
It’s almost as significant as change from having home button to not having one.
Hahahaha no it’s not. A home button changed the whole navigation. This gives marginally more screen area. Great improvement as the notch is ugly, but not even close to a home bottom removal.

I own that exact model, have not used it in 25 years or so!
I had one in the junk drawer, and I had previously considered throwing it out. But I actually used it this past weekend -- for the first time in probably 30 years! (I needed to hole punch a card I was attaching to a gift.)

I'm quite sure that IPhone 13 Pro purchasers are ecstatic about this announcement.
It's so cheap to trade in and upgrade these days that it almost doesn't make sense to hold on to your iPhone for years and let it lose value. For example with the bestbuy deal I traded in my 12 pro max and got a 13 pro max for $214 out the door (including tax)..... Next year I'll do the same thing..... as much as I use my phone $200-$300 is totally worth for essentially a year's use and always having the latest model. Once you let your phone get older then your trade in value starts to dip dramatically.

Hmm, what happened to the "iconic" notch? Without it, the iPhone will just look like any other smartphone. 🤔
for this reason I am skeptical about this rumor... No way will Apple want their phone to look like any other Android out there.

Love my 13 Pro in Sierra blue so far :)
For me the features are important first of all. Look of the device is second.
But I know that a lot of people think different here.
When the 14 will be so groundbreaking new, then I would go for the trade in next year.
Furthermore if you think in such a way, you could never buy any hardware again because the newer and a little bit better will be released every 12 months at least.
