The iPhone 14 Pro with 128GB doesn’t offer the ProRaw video recording, and reviewers need to call out Apple on this. So technically, the real feature complete iPhone 14 Pro starts at $1,099. And you buy it in some other non-freedom country to get the physical SIM+eSIM features
It does, it’s just limited to 1080p.

Not sure how the AOD can't impact battery life. I need a technical review to see battery life with it on and with the feature off. There's a reason android phones don't show the normal lock screen when AOD is on
I agree, having the wallpaper still displayed is odd - Does anyone know if there is an option to only show the clock and widgets when AoD is activated?

Not for everybody but looking forward to the always on display. Sounds like as expected the 48mp camera great when zooming in for improved detail

It’s an absolute mess, everything is all over the place… the worst redesign they have ever done imo. Really liked the old and simple style. Less is more.
The one just gone was pretty naff as well in my opinion, strange sized fonts and weird borders round things that looked oddly old fashioned - the one before last was their best. Anyway, best not bitch too much about The Verge in this thread 😄

Just a day and a half to limp through impatiently now and we'll be at launch day. Bring on the delivery chaos!

I hope iJustine isn't too rough on the new iPhone this year. She can be brutal with her reviews!

This made me laugh. I enjoy her videos and her channel but yeah, I don't buy anything off her recommendations alone.

It's that time again, when we get the usual biased 'reviews' from YouTube again.

This needs to be fixed. I don't blame YouTubers for how they operate. Views = Cash, and being early with reviews means more views.

Apple and other tech companies really manipulate this and have turned these early reviews into ads from 3rd-parties. They are all terrified of losing access to the product line and visits to Apple Park, so they only ever say good things about the company and it's products.

The later reviews where people aren't dependent on Apple sending them review units tend to be more objective.

I like Joanna Stern. To me she’s a journalist tech-reviewer, not a YouTuber tech-reviewer.

Yes - Joanna tells it, but she has the weight of WSJ behind her. She has no fear of losing Apple's favor because they need her more than she needs them.

I miss objective early reviews.

On a side note, the new Verge is simply horrible.

Yes. I really want to give it a chance but, I couldn't even figure it out yesterday. Instead of hitting the site a few times a day, I went elsewhere where I could find something to read! Change can be hard, but they are really pushing it with this one.

BTW, iPhones in non-freedom countries also have spying tools built-in /s

My hunch tells me that the dynamic island might end up with the same fate as the touch bar where it looks cool in demos but doesn't get enough 3rd party adoption to make it useful enough. But we'll see I guess.
I don't think it needs to be "adopted" in the same manner. I think those animations are happening at the system level. For example it already works with Spotify because they are using the now playing api

If i was to get iPhone 14 Pro (which im probably not), the dynamic island would be a reason for me, to go with the regular Pro (not the Max version). No way in hell i can interact with that thing using one hand.

I don’t consider ANY of these reviews to be worth even reading, let alone relying on for helping me make any decisions. Rather than rush this post to the front page, you probably should have found some more nuanced reviews that actually have a bit more substance. The truly sad thing is that most of the public will probably be relying on these terrible sources for “technology reviews” just like you relied on them to push out this front page post as quickly as possible. 🤦🏻‍♂️
All these reviewers get iPhones a week early to 'test' (not really) and film their 'reviews'. They get a script from Apple on what 'points to hit' (i.e. what to say), which is why they all say the same thing and there's almost nothing actually to learn from these ads pretending to be reviews.
No one will hit Apple hard in fear of not getting a week-before-release unit to film their 'review' (ads) on.
