I've watched both the Verge's reviews and that is just about enough for me. Might do Engadget and MKBHD and of course Zollotech. As for the others, meh. I look forward to checking it out at the store in person, but overall, I feel like I am going to stay with my self imposed upgrade cycle which will be next year. Somehow, its starting to feel like the iPhone is peaking.

That subscription can't come soon enough.

The ONLY camera review tests I trust are the MR forums.

Thanks MR Forums. 🙃

This is literally not true, but it's what I expect from that dumbass Patel.

I find these criticisms always ridiculous. What, exactly, was Patel expecting? New features rarely have tons of developer support out of the gate. I’ll also say Joanna Stern’s schtick is getting old. She had to go to an actual island to review the 14 Pro? Seriously? These reviews are less and less about product insights. They’re just about tech publications showing off making fancy videos.

Zollotech is quite in-depth but he’s a massive apple shill desperate to get invited to the inner circle and events.

I only check that website once a year, but who signed off on that Verge redesign? It looks like it's from the same people who "masterminded" the Dropbox redesign, just garish fonts, and colors everywhere.

I hope this doesn't become a trend.

The iPhone 14 Pro with 128GB doesn’t offer the ProRaw video recording, and reviewers need to call out Apple on this. So technically, the real feature complete iPhone 14 Pro starts at $1,099.

Huh?

ProRaw is for making still photographs. Do you use ProRes or even know what it is? That's for video recording.

People who do and understand the benefit for shooting in ProRes will certainly look at the specs which are easy to read and will choose a larger memory option.

If that purple review is true, I am going for Black. At least black I want to be black. Colors I want to be bright. Both MG and PB were the same for me as they say about Purple. Looked Gray or Black.

I don't think the reviewer understands the purpose of shooting in raw format. It's not to get more sharpness or detail, it's to have more data giving better editing control overall to do things like lift shadows, dial back highlights, correct white balance, and choose your level of noise reduction or sharpening in ways you can't with JPEGs. A 12 megapixel ProRAW from an iPhone 12 or 13 will look similar in terms of details as a regular JPEG/HEIC, you simply have more editing control if you import it into apps like Lightroom.

Well said.

“…ahead of time, the first reviews of the devices have now been shared with select media publications and YouTube channels.”

You can bet that these are the reviewers known for hard-hitting, honest comparisons!

Most of these reviewers are either almost saying or even saying how underwhelmed they are with this upgrade. The camera improvements are almost imperceptible compared to the 13 Pro. Dynamic Island has already tired me even by watching these videos. I think it’s one of those features that will be abandoned by Apple in a couple of years. It’s solid a phone for those coming from the 11 and earlier, but all the others are better off waiting for the 15.

How could anyone have done a true comprehensive battery test in such a short timeframe?

Just like every year (with a couple exceptions) most of these are effectively just PR spots for the chosen YouTubers to gain views, praise Apple and effectively do very little.

Looking forward to some more of the deep dive investigations like we usually see a couple weeks after the phones are in the hands of the general public.

Pretty much expected with camera. Can’t tell any difference between this and 13 pro hardly. In some cases the pics are worse. Aod I’ll turn off. Island looks half baked and probably could use another year.

Biggest update for me is screen brightness. But is that worth an upgrade? Probably so. Only costs me a couple hundred after trade in. But coming from a 12 pro max so there is the promotion screen as well.
The biggest upgrade by far for you will be the jump to 120Hz.

So, Apple still applies the horrible correction on iPhone 14pro pictures too. No that huge jump I expected on cameras :(
Basically, iPhone camera is never as good as apple marketing bs shows to us. It’s just a freaking phone. It will never have the capacity to compete against $175000 professional camera with high quality lenses that can shoot objects 5m away with fine detail.

Are they better than before? Umm, maybe yes. As good as the one shown in apple ads? Nowhere even remotely close to that.

I’m disappointed. I’ve now watched/read 3 reviews and my conclusions seem to be that the (1) the camera isn’t that improved and the processing is still over the top. The Pixel seems to win in nearly every comparison I see, and (2) battery life is down despite being advertised as having better battery life than the corresponding 13 Pros.

Pretty sucky that the camera is supposed to be the main selling feature, it’s not even that improved, and still lags behind the competition in photos.
