A magnificent insult to travelers, the 14 with the most imbecile no sim tray ”solution”. Only US customers which is somewhat interesting as how the geniuses in Cupertino arrived at this? Fail.
Really? Why would you need to buy a SIM card in every country you visit if you can use your US carrier plan when traveling overseas? ATT charges me $10/day (maximum $100/month) when using my phone outside the US which is a pretty decent price as I don’t need to do anything other than turn my phone on when I land in a different country. Way more convenient than having to go through the hassle of buying a local SIM card in a different country.

It’s amazing how many here are disappointed in year-to-year upgrades when that isn’t really the reality anymore for any manufacturer. Devices have matured so what you saw as big leaps for say 5-15 years ago are long gone. You will largely see incremental improvement going forward just like has been the case with fuel efficiency for 50 years, computers for the past 10 years, space travel, etc. Technology only moves so fast.

If you’re disappointed, let me warn you that you will largely be disappointed for the rest of your life – with a few random bigger upgrades ever decade.

And don’t think this is just hardware. I run a large team of IT engineers, architects, java developers, etc and there is only so much we can do each year with UI/UX to redesign customer portals, add new functionality, re-engineer customer process flows, etc. It’s largely just adapting to customer preference and industry trends. Apple isn’t an exception in many ways.

On a side note, the new Verge is simply horrible.

I thought it was just me, what an atrocious, horrible design. I read through their article that discusses their design decisions and even those don't make any sense. I give it 6 months before they revert or do a different design.

If that purple review is true, I am going for Black. At least black I want to be black. Colors I want to be bright. Both MG and PB were the same for me as they say about Purple. Looked Gray or Black.
I have a friend that every year he goes to the new flashy color Apple launches. He got the green, then the blue and now the purple. Every year he can’t buy the same as Apple discontinues it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

(A 14 Pro Max 256GB pre-orderer here.)

Checked out the Input article's images. Too bad there aren't download links for the images so that I can compare them myself. The 48 Mpixel 1:1 crop, however, is pretty nice as it completely lacks the oversharpening halos pretty much messing up the HEIC images. It's a bit less definite (there's a specific "haze" in the image), but I think it's the lens - the Nokia 808 couldn't produce better-resolution images either in its 41 Mpixel mode.

All in all, I'm pleasantly suprised by the RAW mode - I was afraid of it equally messed up by oversharpening.

Nilay is clueless, he believes he will revolutionize media with blog posts.

Blog posts that have been out of fashion since Twitter was a thing. Now all the cool kids have moved on to TikTok.

Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm will be happy to know that a 12mp sensor will produce the same sharpness, clarity, and lack of pixilation as a 48 mp camera. WTF are you talking about?
Please re-read what I wrote and what I quoted. The original reviewer expressed disappointment that 12 megapixel ProRAW shots from an iPhone 12/13 were not noticeably more detailed than 12 megapixel JPEG shots. My argument is that people shoot raw for added dynamic range and editing capability, not because raw is magically more detailed on the same sensor. Of course a 48 megapixel shot is going to be sharper and more detailed than a 12 megapixel shot.

Dynamic Island is even uglier than the notch: who likes to watch a screen with some hole in it? Better go back to a larger bezel Apple, or find another solution like underscreen sensor/camera, tis' a devolution

This is so true. 6+ years ago, yearly updates were important. You would see massive gains in performance. Now the only reason to upgrade is because you are on an older phone, they withhold certain software features, or because you are on a yearly upgrade plan.

It will be useful to me so imma using it no matter what.
Sara Dietschy(YouTube) said she kept AOD on standby for 24hrs with no percentage loss. And then she went a total 48hrs standby with AOD and it only went down to 95%. MKBHD didn’t do a focused test like she did when he said there was a noticeable hit to battery.

It might be a convenient option, but it's definitely not cheap. You can buy a SIM card pretty much anywhere here in Brazil, get 15gb of data for 30 days for about $6 and spend $94 elsewhere. I travel a lot and never had any issues getting a local SIM.

I don’t consider ANY of these reviews to be worth even reading, let alone relying on for helping me make any decisions. Rather than rush this post to the front page, you probably should have found some more nuanced reviews that actually have a bit more substance. The truly sad thing is that most of the public will probably be relying on these terrible sources for “technology reviews” just like you relied on them to push out this front page post as quickly as possible. 🤦🏻‍♂️
Who do you consider to be a reviewer worth reading (or watching)?

Sure. For an occasional or company phone business traveler it may work. To a certain extent. Not when you can buy an unlimited service with data for $10 or less per month and allow local people to call you. Or when that behemoth AT&T, who cannot often ensure good comm even in some large US cities, was never heard of where you land. Nah…when you’ll travel some more for longer than a typical one or two weeks you’ll learn.

Why would you NOT, unless you like to give US carrier all the money. For example, Verizon charges same $10/day but only gives 500MB limit. If you want to do any actual work or watching video you will blow through that in no time. Think of a family of 3 or 4 people. Versus getting a local sim for $15-$20 for 7-14 days, or $30 for a month, and have unlimited data for a month.

Errrrrr. No. I have the 12 pro. My wife has the 13 pro. Very very little upgrade. I have no idea where you're coming from on this. I've upgraded almost every year and the 13pro is one of the few I've skipped. Not sure what you're smoking...
10-120Hz LTPO display, massive improvements to the camera and now on equal ground with the 13 Pro Max, and a large increase in battery capacity with matching endurance.

Those are the three most important aspects of a smartphone getting better year after year, don’t know what you’re smoking.

Sure, I think adding ProMotion was huge, and Cinematic video was incredible. Those 2 put it head and shoulder above rest of smart phones.
Yeah if you take a lot of videos. My cat videos on my 12pro look just as good as the ones my wife takes on her 13pro. Not that big of a deal.

Not that big of a deal to You, but bigger deal to some. I like my cat video looks like movie taken with 20k video cameras and be able to switch focus.

Jeez, this is the first time ever since I’ve have had an iPhone 3GS that I realized they do written reviews about these phones, here I was buying them because I liked them lolol

my start-up kit, if I care to have a local number in Europe, costs me $0.00 - $1.20. Monthly unlimited with whatever data (that I have almost always on) is less than $10.-

So, to shoot 48MP pics do you have to be in raw mode and to use raw mode do you have to have an IPhone 14 Pro/Max model that has 256gb storage? Thanks!

These reviews of the iPhone 14 Pro are so exciting to me! While I'm not in the market for an upgrade, I feel like I want one. On the other hand, when the iPhone 15 Pro comes out, it'll be even more enticing to upgrade from the 12 Pro, especially with the Dynamic Island being more mature and baked into third-party apps. I hope the camera upgrade in the 15 Pro is really substantial. I've enjoyed having the GPS and camera capabilities of the iPhone :)

You need to shoow ProRAW for the 48MP pics, but it will work with whatever storage option. You might be thinking about ProRes, which requires at least 256gb.
