The 12 and 13 series is already a bit rounder than the 11 series. And they are going to be more rounder !?

Love the attention to detail.

It is time we get a new design for the iPhone. I’m already falling in love with this iPhone and it’s not even announced yet 😜
I can’t wait to watch you and the rest of our MR friends track your phones from the factory to your houses. You make it such a festive time!

My husband will also probably be preordering so I’ll still have something to track. :D

I'm curious to see if Apple was able to engineer some form of transparency into the display where the modules are. That way you'd only see a hole in the display when using the front camera. When not using the camera, that part of the display would turn it's pixels back on again. The sensors to the left may even be able to operate under the display with the pixels turned on or partially turned on in that area.

Cracked the screen on my 8-plus the other day... now do I go for a 13 or try to hold out until the 14. ... decisions, decisions.

Remember how certain all these analysts were about getting the flat sided Apple Watch Series 7.
How did that turn out?

This really is looking like a skip year for 13 Pro owners.
On the contrary, I can't wait to get rid of my 13 Pro Max and get a 14 Pro instead. The weight is just out of control. And the size doesn't really add anything. I've only ever gotten the largest model for the best possible camera, and there is no indication that this year's Pro Max model will have a better camera than the Pro.

Anyone remember this sharp cornered thing?

Great so we loose even more screen Real-estate, I would be happy to go back to square off corners, what tv has rounded screens?

I still hope the pill hole punch won’t actually happen.
Why should it? It’ll just make usable screen area actually less. What for?
I would bet that the pill is happening because of the rounded corners. The rounded corners would have left too small of space for the status icons on either side of the notch, so they turn the notch into a pill and bring it lower, and the icons will probably be lower too. All in all, it would still be reduced screen real estate because the area above the pill is not useful. But probably not a significant reduction.

You. Just. Grrr!
I literary just got the iPhone 13 mini as an upgrade last night, still haven’t removed the seal and now I’m thinking maybe l, just maybe the 14/13 Pro should be my phone a year from now. Then again I have to hold one in person but I still prefer the mini’s. But you got me wondering.

Right?!

Straight up @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 realy should be head of iPhone Global marketing!

I'm not a fan of the pill and dot holes in the screen. I think the notch is a much cleaner-looking design until they can put the whole thing under the screen (if that ever happens). And, I've said this before on another thread, but can we please get rid of this damn lightning port and go with USB-C?

Would you be holding out for a 14 Pro? If not, might as well get a 13 now and not wait 6 months with a cracked phone. The 13 and 14 are going to be near identical.

I find it funny that they focus so much on something as trivial and manage to miss a proverbial elephant in the room. If we look at the renders in the article, we can see that those front camera cuts look quite big and appear to go lower on the screen than the current notch. A ridiculous design move, IMHO.
So the device is actually taller, so if you line up the bottom of the device instead of the top, the notch and hole punch are at the same height

Comments like this simply lack the vision to see how this is a dramatic improvement. The dot and pill will practically disappear behind content once your eyes get used to it being there. Unlike the notch which always covers something.

These little islands will be even less noticeable than the notch in real world use, and will be appreciated for the improvement that they are.

People complaining about the holepunch after a notch are the same people who whined about the notch and grew to like it after accepting it - and the subsequent realization it serves a purpose - and then eventually grew to like the notch. These petty conplaints over nothing are still petty and unfounded. I mean, the notch and this is weird, don't get me wrong, but the benefits to more screen is clear and hass a benefit of being unique, in a way- especially in a world where most screens look the same at the front; besides, unique sells. The notch was polarizing, but it was insanely reduced over the already archaic era of the iphone 6 design. You're litterally getting a higher screen to body ratio and a less intrusive obstacle up top (i.e. closer to the end-goal of nothing in the way). The pill punch cutout occupies less of a footprint than the notch with more screen? You people can't be pleased no matter what I stg.Just shut up and get a life, honestly. Most people won't care or notice anyway. Dont like it, dont buy and vote with your wallet. You arent going to change their minds with a device already in production a year in advance.

I don't get the pill design. It's lower than the notch and the space above is unusable. Wasn't the whole point about the notch to have more usable screen?

Right data, wrong device. Sometimes the info is a bit too far ahead. Watch john prosser's recent vid explaining how the mac studio was detailed years before being a thing. These companies have roadmaps, not yearly random, arbitrary decisions at a whim. I mean, by the time the device has released, plans are alredy in place for the next one- as you are likely not aware based on reading your comment.

You do realize content - as in movies, etc. - are 16:9 meaning the cuves have no impact on a device with black bars either side on a device with a longer aspect ratio -unless cropped- which doesn't make sense concerning this anyway since by the nature of cropping to fit you're still technically "losing content" in the process. Anything beyond that will be optimised to fit rendering your argument null and void. Again every tv I know, beside ultrawide monitors, are 16:9.
