You're only going to have your phone a few years tops before you upgrade, so who cares if it gets some scratches? This isn't a keepsake that you're trying to protect for the next 20 years. Go naked and enjoy it

Except when you may want to sell or pass it on afterwards.

If you are ok with occasional scuffs, scratches & cracks and have Apple Care for when things do go bad - sure, go naked. If you want your iPhone to keep looking good for as long as possible (for resale or passing on), the case might help.

I keep my iPhone in a slim transparent case with raised borders in front for screen protection and it works very well. This way I do not need to worry how and where I put my phone.

In its 20 months of use, my mini 12 had three falls - two on the smooth floor and one in the garage with a more uneven landing surface. All three falls were side first then screen down. I had to swap the case after the garage fall, but the phone still looks like new.

iPhone 14 Pro Max is also much bigger and heavier than my mini, so the gravity will be pulling it down much stronger. Putting a case on it is a good idea, IMO.

Tried it. Doesn’t work for me. Dry hands and the phone basically slides out of my hand when I’m holding it. A case adds an extra bit of grip that I need.

On my 11 pro models I didn’t use a case. On my 12 pro I did but only because the graphite stainless steel was a finger print magnet. I plan to do the same w/ my silver 14 pro but this time a clear case. I do use screen protectors because I need the oleophobic coating. I go crazy with the fingerprints and smudges

I'm still on the 11 Pro Max, had it since day one. Every now and then I've tried a few cases, but in my 3 years of ownership I've probably only had a case on it for 1 month overall. Like others have said, a phone is a disposable item, in a few years time we will have moved on. Luckily I'm one of those people who likes to take good care of his things, and I've hardly ever dropped a phone in my life. I'm aware that all it takes is one drop and it could be a very expensive mistake, but I'm willing to take that risk and in return enjoy the phone and its materials.

I know the thread is about 14 series, but I'm using a 12 PM.
No screen protector or case the last 1 1/2 year.
I like the feeling when the phone is naked.
No scratches on back or sides.
Small shallow scratches on the front.
You can only see them in a certain light.
So for me I thinks it's worth it😊

Yeah I mean, that’s a bit dodgy, don’t you think?!
Haha, people doing it on their cars all the time. When the car accumulates enough dings, dents, cracks, and whatnot all over, some people just total the car to get insurance claim. I don’t think it’s a secret 😂

Of course, be smart of not abusing by overdoing it. ;)

I look at the phone, I like the design, I like the color I choose, I like how it feels in the hand, I like that stainless steel is durable, I like that the design makes it durable... and then I put a case around it and all of a sudden it feels like any cased cheap Android? No!

I used my 12 Pro Max caseless, not even tempered glass protection, now I sold it after 1.5 years and there was no scratch on it. Not going for case/glass 14PM either.

But I have insurance on it. Stolen, robbed, lost, broken - it's all covered.

I used to use iPhone 5 & iPhone 7 without a case all the time and it was a joy. Took great care of it, though micro-scratches on the back were unavoidable. I only use 11 pro without the case sometimes while I'm home, most of the time it's in the case.

With these protruding cameras on the back, it's hard to imagine putting the phone on the back on hard surfaces without getting it scratched eventually. Makes me really uneasy not using the case. I guess this is now even trickier on 14 pro with even bigger cameras...

I can’t imagine going without a case even if I didn’t care about the value of the phone. As the phones have gotten bigger/heavier, especially with the new flat edge design, they’re so slippery. I just enjoy having the extra grip and not worrying about the phone sliding off a smooth surface. Plus, one handed use with a case allows me to reach the entire keyboard with my thumb.
And scratches, nicks… I would hate staring at them all the time.
The caseless life is just not for me.

I am a little paranoid, I like a folio type case and am not quite ready to go caseless.
I was disappointed when Apple stopped selling them, but like the Nomad cases.

I sort of lease my phones here in Canada . A plan after 2 years trade it in for a new one no extra cost but if you choose to keep it you pay the remaining balance usually around $400 and change.
So ally American friends is this better or worse you what’s offered in your country ?

I will never understand the need for screen protectors
I had exactly the same opinion until I tried a tempered glass on my 13 PM. I found that over time the feel of the screen protector was actually better than the naked screen. The protector maintain the oleophobic coating so much better and of course could always been replaced if necessary to renew it, something you can’t do with the iPhone screen. With a modern screen protector it is really hard to even tell one is installed.

I will always use a screen protector now I know how good they are.

With the iPhone 13 Pro after a failed Apple Leather Case I went caseless and love it but using Apple Care+ :).
You know what? A leather case is 60 and lasted 3 months to me. Prefer to pay Apple Care + with theft and loss.
Obviously have taken care of my phone and didn't have any issue until now when I made two little scratches on the screen.. Apple won't change it because is 'cosmetic damage' and I'm too lazy to smash my phone on the wall.

I got an iphone 14 pro now and bought a bare naked case from 'Bare Cases' which I have used before and I love them because you can't even notice them, mostly because the back of the phone feels very fragile and is new but probably will get bored sooner or later.

But nothing beats the feel of a naked iPhone!
Umm . . . well, have you tried . . . nevermind.

Not a 14, but I bought my 13 mini on the 14 launch day. Went starlight but keep it in the clear apple MagSafe case 95% of the time. I used to do it for the camera bump and added grip. But now the phones are back to flat edges, the grip is generally better. And the case has a camera bump!

So I may be stripping back down and going naked. As others have said, AppleCare+ changes the calculation. Replacing the whole screen is cheaper than most good glass screen protectors.

I don’t use a case. Nor a screen protector.

Same.

No case, no screen protector and certainly no Apple Care+.

I had 12 iPhones in the last 13 years and only once have I experienced a serious drop and that was on the iPhone X with its glass back. I was lucky enough it was juts the back so I could put a case on it and still use it until my next iPhone.

Naked feels best. :D

But I do like the Magsafe Wallet as it gives some protection when placing the iPhone on a table away from home, e.g. in a restaurant.

Until you tried selling your phone and the value got reduced due to those scratches. ;)
I use screen protectors to maintain the screen's quality in time for trade-ins for maximum value. Luckily they're very cheap investment to maximize the resell value.

As title suggests I’m so close to going full time caseless with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I spent the last 3 months using my 13 Pro Max without a case and found that once I got used to it in the hand it was perfectly comfortable to hold. I did not drop or bang it once (in fact have only dropped one iPhone since the 3).

So far with the 14 I have the Apple Leather case but do keep taking it off every now and again. I guess because it’s brand new “we” tend to baby our new phones but as I say, thinking of going caseless.

I have AppleCare Plus for any bad accidents. I do know that that does not cover scratches etc (which would drive me nuts!) but again, I’ve NEVER had any scratches on any of my. iPhones. I am careful with my iPhones and am always aware of where they are and where I place them down.

Anyway, enough rambling, I’m interested in your thoughts. I know there’ll be for and against views but am interested to know? So, caseless or with case? Thanks.
Do it!

As long as your conscience about holding it tight and not dropping it or doing careless things and putting it in precarious scenarios, it’s much more enjoyable caseless 😍

All the more reason to consider resale value

Several years ago I transitioned away from the more protective LifeProof/Otterbox cases and started using a glass screen protector with an Apple leather case. That's been enough to keep the phone pristine through quite a bit of abuse. Recently my 13 Pro Max slid off the the back of my truck on a corner going about 30mph and landed on the road. The stainless steel corner that hit the pavement first had some damage, but the phone was essentially fine. I'd really only consider going caseless if they start making the glass portions of the phone with sapphire (as was once the plan). I would seriously consider a more ruggedized version of the iPhone that would be to other iPhones what the Apple Watch Ultra is to the regular Apple Watch.

I would never go case less, aside from the protection I like the grip of a case. These phones feel like a wet bar of soap naked
This is exactly what I was thinking. Not only are you unprotected, you have a better chance of dropping it, and the worrying about dropping it makes you nervous, so more of a chance of dropping it
