Anyway, enough rambling, I’m interested in your thoughts. I know there’ll be for and against views but am interested to know? So, caseless or with case? Thanks.

Try it! You pay a lot of money for a beautifully designed, jewelry quality device. You should see it, use it, and enjoy it as intended.

Granted, it's an awkward jump to make.

I went caseless after I had had my Xs Max for a couple of years and was considering an upgrade. I decided that a broken screen from a drop would be my excuse to upgrade.

3 years later, still no broken screen. Still no major scratches. And I've dropped it more than a handful of times on our hardwood floors, including last night (knocked it off the bedstand in the middle of the night). It was fine. I've even our cement garage once or twice (albeit from lap height). Still no noticeable damage (there are few hairline scratches if you look closely against a reflection).

Note: It took me a few weeks before I was mostly comfortable without a screen, and a few more months before I was totally comfortable without the case.

But now I love it and will never go back.*

* I might consider a case if/when I go traveling overseas (where it would be a major hassle to replace it).

I've never put a case on my phone I think they're bulky and ugly. And now that apple care is unlimited breaks why would you ever put a case on it?
why, as you have to pay a excess so not free, I live 6 hour drive from a apple store so would be a week before I got a replacement, there's your why lol

I like to go fully naked as I'm careful with my stuff and not accident prone (touches wood quickly).

However, the mountainous camera bumps on the back of the 14 Pro are spoiling that naked feel for me this year. The function/form balance has tipped a little too far now. They're like 3 giant warts on an otherwise perfect body.

Might be sacrilegious to say here, but at this point I think I prefer the way Google has gone with the camera bar design on the Pixel phones.

I really like the cases from Carved so moving from my 12 mini to the 14 Pro, I made sure I got one that would match the purple color.

I usually start with a case and then use it less and less until I eventually go caseless once the novelty of "new phone" wears off. Honestly I've never once dropped a phone ever in my life.

My spirit animal is all of you who go case-less. I try to do it, but then cave to my feelings and put it back on.
Then I have times that I bump it hard on something or drop it (very rare, but it happens) and I think, "whew, glad I had the case on it!" lol.
I'm an idiot because I have AppleCare+ and should just rely on that, but just can't. Anyone have a therapist they can recommend?

Ah okay, well the steel has been pretty durable for me throughout every year with a new iPhone. If I do damage it enough, I have AppleCare+ Theft + Loss
I rock the silver with no case and then buff out the scratches that I do get.

My wife and I both had XS. She dropped hers about a month ago and cracked the case badly--she had only a screen protector. Her phone was still working, so I gave her my case just so her iPhone wouldn't fall apart before she got a new one. She ordered a 13 PM because the 14 PM would have been a month plus wait. In ordering her phone I noticed I could get myself a new phone very cheap with trade in, so I ordered a 14 Pro, which I should receive on Friday. I didn't need a phone so urgently so I didn't mind waiting. But we sent my case--a pretty cheap clear one--in with her XS, so I've been naked, or screen protector only, for over three weeks now, and it drives me crazy. The phone lays flatter and doesn't slide around when it has a case on it, and if I drop it, it is less likely to break.

TL/DR: I already bought two new cases for my incoming 14 Pro.

iPhone 4 I used the bumper case due to signal issues back then, iPhone 5- Caseless(small enough to grip the slippery matte aluminum), iPhone 6 - Cased(matte aluminum too slippery), iPhone 7(same as iPhone 6 so cased), iPhone XS- Caseless(most grippy iPhone I have had with the gloss edges and back), iPhone 12pro- Caseless, iPhone 14 pro will be caseless as well when it arrives. Any phone I have cased has been in worse condition when I was done with it than phones I didn't case due to grit and stuff getting between the case and phone. I don't even set my phone on hard surfaces when not in use though.. got to have something like a book or even a napkin under it before I set it down lol.

I abused my 12PM, no case;no screen protector. Tossed it around, dropped a couple of times… by the time I traded it in, it had NO marks on it. Lol!! I didn’t feel as lucky with the 13PM… perhaps I liked the color too much. 13/14 PM are in a case!!

Except when you may want to sell or pass it on afterwards.
ehh.. I once sold two iphone 5's on ebay.. One was perfect pristine condition never cased. Other had a small crack on the edge of the screen...cracked one got more money on the sale.. both were listed at the same time...people are stupid..lol

I’ll alternate using my 13 Pro with and without a case. I use a very thin, mildly matte screen protector and lay my phone down face down when I’m rolling case-less. I intend to replace my 13 Pro next year with the 15 Pro Max or Ultra, whatever it’ll be called, and will definitely roll case-less as well periodically.

I should add, I also have AppleCare+ in the event there is an unintended accident lol.

I'm currently using a felt-lined sleeve. I set my phone on top of the sleeve when it's on a table, otherwise I'd also put it on a napkin. I think having a MagSafe wallet on phone would have the phone high enough off the table that the camera lens wouldn't touch the table. The felt gives the screen a quick wipe every time I take the phone in and out. With a sleeve there's an extra couple steps to take when you use the phone, so probably a bad solution if you take out your phone often. I have an Apple Watch so less need to take out my phone.

Previously using an Apple leather case was the best compromise for me, but this year's cases didn't fit as precisely and the buttons weren't as clicky. I might try again with Apple leather cases as suggested by another poster on here, but will wait until winter to find out how it's like to hold a naked phone with dry cold hands. I was going to get the RhinoShield bumper, but at the time I was looking for a bumper case, RhinoShield didn't have them ready for the 14 Pro. BTW, anybody knows who else makes bumper cases?

TL;DR: using a sleeve might be a good compromise of nakedness and protection.

That's how I started, by having the Apple Wallet on the back of the naked phone. That way when placed on a table or other surface it phone is protected. Plus, I found the wallet provided extra grip.

I also think many people add cases for personal style / taste. There's a case in every wild color, artistic design, IP driven (Disney, etc) sports team, designer brands, novelty, etc.

All the phones (with just a few color) options basically look the same. I know someone who lost their phone the other day & when she called the store, first description given to the sales rep was the case (and they found it)
