IMHO 6x zoom is too little. I use a Samsung S22U and 1. its zoom is variable: you can use 7x, 8x... 10x... and 2. the image quality in daylight conditions is OK with 10x zoom, but in other situations it's a horrible quality, the difference for an example from the fixed 3x lens is noticeable. I don't know if Samsung fixed this on the S23U, and I hope Apple does a better implementation of this feature.

If you compare a picture taken with the S22U at 10x and an image made with my Canon SX240HS (smaller sensor, and 2012 tech), the difference is huge (in Canon's favour...)

What would it be if not optical?

ETA: I saw your previous message, did you mean you want a variable focal length zoom rather than fixed focal lengths?
Yes, that is what optical zoo. Is, variable focal length by arranging the lenses..
The “zoom” on the current iPhone models is achieved digitally…
There have been rumors that the periscope lens can do true optical but to the best of my knowledge only the Sony Experia (??) has true optical zoom

Despite the slowing smartphone sales growth in the US, sounds like Apple can get away with the price increase with carriers gearing up to front some of the cost. That way, the consumer doesn't see any front-end changes to the price and Apple still gets to grow its enormous coffers even further.

The 2TB option would be such an ideal iPhone for me. I cannot rely on a 1TB iPhone anymore. I'm afraid I will be running out of space next year.

Apple also needs to increase iCloud storage next month.

I have more of a problem with total photos I save on my 200 GB iCloud storage plan. But fine on iPhone @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗️

What could you POSSIBLY have loaded on your phone locally that's more than 512 or 1TB?? In addition to cloud storage?

Do you load EVERYTHING on phone just for fun? That's a waste.

Seriously 1-2TB on a PHONE is way overkill
I've got almost 150GB of music alone (I don't stream). Combine that with photos, 60fps video, apps, and it fills up quickly. It's not a waste to have things on your phone available for you to use without the need of an internet connection. You may not have a need for a TB of storage, or two, but there are people that use their phones differently than you. Think Different.

With that much space you should really turn on “download and keep originals“ for your photos in iCloud settings! You can fit your whole library on your phone instead of just the low resolution previews.

Well I like to have them handy on my ipad or macbook also even though 80 percent were taken by iPhone over years. I never planned it that way. I prefer to see the full image most of time on ipad 12.9 screen or my 15 and 16 inch MacBook screens but yes I supposed I can In fact I have that set on iphone so those are optimized photos download when I need to see one. I have my ipad set to download all the photos though

Ipad first:

If the iPhone 15 pro, with a new design (curved edges), new materials (titanium), new port, new action button, and a much more powerful SoC built on a whole new industry-leading process is an S upgrade (an iPhone 14S Pro), what would it take for the 15 Pro to be a proper new numbered iteration? Out of curiosity.

You really think a slightly curved edge and new materials that are covered by a case are going to matter? Much more powerful SoC that is overpowered for the apps it runs. Again, there is almost zero reason to upgrade from a 14 pro max. This is a much more incremental upgrade than 13 to 14 was. I'd be buying up to get USB-C and a chunkier device.

I'm in for multiple of these. Upgrading my 12 Pro Max and downsizing to a 15 Pro. I didn't really get much benefit from the larger size and the weight was enough to pull my pants down.

Also upgrading my parents' iPhone 11s that now occasionally have trouble getting signal.

I'm considering going the other way, only for the better battery life and camera. Who knows if the size will make me avoid the Max.
