My 14 pro 1 terabyte is still at 100%. There’s nothing in this update and I’m craving, UBC it’s a good move, but I’m not in need of it straight away. I do however need a new Mac which is much more important, phones are now going onto a 3 to 4 year update because nothing is changing enough to make me want to spend that amount of money on phones, after all I can’t remember when the last time I said wow I bought that iPhone that made my year, rather than the the memories I had from that really good holiday which cost about the same.

I hope the new iPhone 15's are coming up in Black iPhone boxes. Hits different!

ACTION BUTTON? --I will bet against that.

Steve Jobs introduction of the iPhone was to lambaste such physical buttons. He touted changing the buttons based on needs and new ideas via GUI. And now analysts think Apple wants to ADD a physical button?

Come on...
Not adding a button, replacing the mute switch with an action button.

That being said, I'm not convinced about the rumor. Sure, the action button on the Apple Watch Ultra is great for situations where you can't use the capacitive touch screen (underwater). It doesn't seem as relevant for an iPhone though. I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks.

----------------

As for the iPhone 15 Pro upgrades, I'd really like USB-C, but think I'll likely not upgrade this cycle (unless there is a purple 15 Pro, then I'm in). The incremental spec upgrades for a lot of the other stuff sounds fun, but not terribly impactful (are there people that would realistically notice the CPU processing speed difference or WiFi 6E vs 6 outside of tech spec bragging rights? Qi2 is awesome, but it's basically codifying the existing MagSafe implementation we have on iPhones into the standard. Better camera is better. Ultrawideband is ultrawidebandier? :D )

I've got almost 150GB of music alone (I don't stream). Combine that with photos, 60fps video, apps, and it fills up quickly. It's not a waste to have things on your phone available for you to use without the need of an internet connection. You may not have a need for a TB of storage, or two, but there are people that use their phones differently than you. Think Different.
You have heard of iCloud for photos right? Even if not, I have my lifetime collection of photos and videos at 450 GB and that's if I needed all that on my phone locally at all times (hint-no one does)

Secondly, about the music. I'm guessing you have a decent phone plan since you can afford a max phone with 2TB storage. You could likely stream all month and not go over...

But, if you needed local music storage to save from streaming or if off the grid you k ow services like Apple Music, Spotify or local flac allow you to download some playlists quick and easily when needed right??

Still not convincing...overkill lmao

The only downside of the phone in that mockup actually being released would be that, unlike the Watch Ultra, most people use a case on their phones and would rarely get to admire how cool it looked.
I completely agree. For myself, I interpret that beefy design (recessed camera, etc.) as being the first iPhone that really wouldn't need a case.

But if Apple stops making leather cases, I may need to parade my new iPhone 15 around town naked… (the iPhone is naked, not me). 😉

It astounds me that the iPhone Pro is turning out to be more popular than the non-Pro version. I can't see how any of the features are worth an extra 20% currently (maybe even more after the iPhone 15 price increase). I know this is a "to each their own" kind of thing, personal preference and all that, but I just don't see it. The price increase means the iPhone 15 Pro will now be more expensive than an M1 MacBook Air. Apples and oranges I suppose, but I can't imagine paying more for a phone than for a laptop.

Well you can buy a Chromebook for $50 and an inexpensive android phone for $188 so it appears the phone is worth more than the laptop… 😉

Really hope Apple keeps us mid-range-phone folks happy, like they’ve been doing since the iPhone 5C!

I find their mid tier to provide amazing bang for the buck. Of course, you’re not getting their Pro offerings, but still a nice balance between price and performance.

Currently on the iPhone 14 Plus (Red) 128GB and its the perfect balance of big screen, big battery, decent weight (as light as the 14P), zippy performance / cameras.

They usually reserve anything their marketing affixes the Pro- label to for their Pro lineups so not gonna see 120Ha refresh or Raw image captures anytime soon but I guess that’s ok for $200-$250 “discount” on the phones.

Exactly! That's why the different colours of phones is useless for 98% of people...not a feature at all really
