Nobody was asking for a lighter phone nor making comparisons to an old one that’s 5 years old?

In fact it’s been the opposite. We want phones with better battery life and if it’s thicker so be it.

Just don’t buy into the marketing. You won’t notice the difference day to day.

I have a 14PM and I’ll be pre ordering the 15 on Friday.

The camera upgrade is enough to entice me. The weight reduction, and other features are icing. I usually upgrade every year. My wife and I are DINC’s and I work tons of OT, so I have the disposable income and this is one of the ways I “treat” myself.

We’re taking a big vacation in November and I want to be able to take the best pictures I can with my phone. So I’ll spring for it.

I admit it’s not for everyone, and that’s fine. But I’ll be pre ordering 8 AM Friday.

I disagree with the 15 pro being a “significant” upgrade over the 14 pro. Its a nice refinement. You can always count on the new iphone being better than the last but If i was to upgrade from my 14 pro i doubt i would ever notice a difference.
If you keep it in your pocket, you would probably notice the big difference in weight. I upgraded from the Xs to the 14 Pro last year and the ONLY thing that bugs me is the constant significant tug downward by having it in my pocket.

Do people make phone calls anymore or just do all the other wonderful things that smart phones can do? lol
I'd like to see Apple come out with just a basic dumb phone. Maps and decent camera.

Even with all the Buzzwords USB-C is mentioned first. And that’s not coming from Apple but from EU. Maybe those are the better developers 😆

For my money, the days of annual upgrades being justified ended somewhere around the 4s (when, real ones will remember, the 's' supposedly stood for 'Siri'), so these annual complaints that there's not enough to justify buying every single Apple product seem a little quaint.

On the other hand, the changes are easily significant enough to finally get me to jump off my X when last year's weren't. While unsurprising, mundane, and not exactly technological envelope-pushing in the way things were in the old days, the USB-C port, USB 3 transfer speeds, and 1/3 more RAM are big deals for me. The extra zoom, along with the other various slight camera enhancements, is also very welcome.

I am a little surprised that the move to 3 nm just gave us 10% more CPU speed without any apparent battery life increase, though. Not to mention that the GPU only managed to squeeze 20% more performance out of 20% more cores. But of course the extra core is nice, and both sides already handily outperformed my X.

It appears that quite a number of the camera upgrades are software based. I wonder how many are baked into the new OS and will come to the 14 Pro?
Doubt it as they never release many new features for old phones unless it was shown at WWDC. For example next generation Portrait mode will be IPhone 15 and onwards only not previous models.

That`s a joke, right? How much is the author paid by Apple?? I own a 11pro max and even I see absolutely no substantial upgrade here for me in daily use! I bet battery life is even better on the 11 pro max than on 15…
The only thing that has me thinking about an upgrade of my iPhone 11 Pro is the current trade in value of my device. If I wait another year for a better upgrade, I could see a much less trade in value…

how is this a significant upgrade? Users wont likely be able to tell any difference between the two models. I'll be in the market for a used 14pro.

Meanwhile there is some shadow coming on the east front. Seen the remarkable market share grab it got in a few year times over the iPhone before the ban, I’m curious to see what happens with these in-house developments. Won’t be surprised that they are able to evaporate Apple sales in China in the not so distant future. You may think what you want, but at least they are innovating by the speed of light.

I feel like some features which existed on older phones is now being touted as new. My iPhone 13 Pro Max has the ability to see focal lengths when zooming...so why is that being shown as being on the 15 Pro Max only? Heck, my work iPhone 12 has the 13 and 26mm function.

I think the camera is a big upgrade, and the screen, over my 15 Pro Max, but I'm also not sure now whether paying $600 after trade in makes much sense. The CPU upgrades seem minor at best with how specific the scenarios are.

It’s almost like they posted the comparison to allow people to decide for themselves…

They’re the lightest Pro phones since the XS, and given the ever increasing weight, a reversal in that trend is a positive.

Some people will never be pleased.

The most interesting thing announced yesterday was the possibility of generous trade-ins via the partners. If my wife and I can upgrade our 14 Pro Max for a 15 Pro Max for only $200, it'll be worth it to us because of the lighter design.
Just be aware of some of the costs of sticking with a partner. I can trade in my iPhone 13 Pro Max to Apple for $580 (supposedly, the guidelines are vague and if there is a chip in the screen they deem major its literally worthless). Verizon or someone else will give me $1k...but you have to compare services charges.

I pay $175 a month for 3 lines with Verizon, or $2k a year.
Mint Mobile would be $30 a month for 2. (I'd drop my watch). This is $360 a year.

So that extra $400 I get from Verizon would actually cost me $600 in year one, and then $1600 in year two and 3. I also have the option to move providers and plans if I want.

I know these aren't completely 1:1 comparisons, and I simplified the math, but this was a bit eye opening.

I notice the main and ultrawide camera lenses are slower. Why is that? This seems like a downgrade.

So has LiDAR actually been improved as all the rumours suggested or not? I don’t find any official information about this…

Annual upgrades haven’t been necessary for years. This isn’t a bad thing. Each phone is a good buy and lasts a long time. Each new phone brings small improvements.

It’s like people expect an iPhone 4 over 3GS update every two-three years but those days are gone with good reason.
Agreed. I’m finally going to upgrade.
From an iPhone 6. Looking at a 13. Once I got an iPad I only used the phone for calls and texts.

Perhaps I missed it but how does the iPhone 15 Pro batter life compare to the iPhone 14 Pro?

Year after year, I find iPhone battery life to be one of its weakest points (perhaps not the Pro Max, but the Pro and other lines). :(

Does this mean the "Most Compatible" format option is gone?!

Not sure how I feel about that.
No, that option is still there:
