You guys realize it's still pill + hole right, not a long pill? In the camera mode, the space inbetween is utilized by the display itself to show those indicators.
I think when the indicators are not being used the pill+hole will turn into a long pill for a symmetrical look.

I guess 3rd party apps are going to have to recode their apps to deaden the pixels there... or not.
For movie viewing apps/games etc I think I'd prefer to have the pixels in-between blacked out. It may be off putting otherwise. Not that I play games on an iPhone, but I do watch movies/TV shows on mine when out and about in transit, waiting places etc.

What a waste of time. Fix the underlying OS performance issues and bugs. I could careless. We had a slit and a dot back when we had a hard frame over the entire top. Did everyone whine then? ‘‘Oh what a waste of space! Why can't they give me back that space!'' -> ‘‘Oh looks so much better. So smart!''

End result, it isn't usable screen space. Looking forward to people whining that once its embedded in the display people won't be able to know if someone is spying on them or not.

What’s the point in this? The phone will still be listening to you as has been proven, look at the scandal when it was found out that company in Ireland was listening to all those recordings people didn’t ever know we’re being taken by their iPhones.

The picture also shows how the camera app will be redesigned (according to the article). I'm not sure I agree with putting so many of the controls up there because won't that impact one handed ease of use? Unless those controls are moving to make way for new camera software features at the bottom 🤔 Maybe they need more viewfinder space for the rumored 3:2 aspect ratio (I still believe native film emulation is coming at some point)

That's what I love about the iPhone events, even if we know what the device will look like and rough camera specs we never truly know what kind of camera *software* tricks are coming.
How often are you taking pictures in portrait orientation? I take nearly %100 in landscape, especially video, so having things at the top/left shouldn’t be an issue

Wait the higher resolution wide sensor + rumored 3:2 aspect ratio + redesigned camera app = replacing 1x, 3x zoom buttons with focal length equivalent buttons? High res sensor means Apple can crop the wide sensor to a 35mm (and 50mm?) lens mode without dropping below 12mp standard iPhone resolution

That’s a lot more useful than the vague “3x” buttons.
