For me the best evidence of no punch hole, is the shrinking of the notch this year. Why would Apple bother shrinking the notch if they were going to ditch it completely the following year?
As a way to buy themselves more time? They've probably been working on shrinking it since the X came out with it. I mean, Android phones are working on cameras being under the screen, which seems eons ahead of shrinking a notch. I really think after Android phones jumped on and then ditched the notch bandwagon, Apple sees it as a way to differentiate it's phones, and that's the reason they've been dragging their feet. They probably know how to do things. I really honestly believe they plan upgrades years and years in advance, doing research on how little they can add and still have people buy new phones so they can spread out the upgrades (and thus any margin gained from new components).

If they don't have periscope zoom soon, I don't care how used to iOS at this point, I'm jumping back to Android, and probably a Pixel.

I'm not a believer about notch being gone and hole punch design. I believe we will see a very small notch for the I14. Very small actually.

I still wonder how many of the notch "haters" actually use a notched iPhone. I hardly ever notice or care about the thing in day to day use.
Considering the notch has been there since 2017 I’d say quite a bit. I’ve had the iPhone X, XS Max, 11 Pro Max and tomorrow hopefully 13 Pro Max and I still think the notch is hideous. Why is it so hard to believe?

I'm waiting to see what the side-by-side camera reviews look like for the 13 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro before I decide whether or not to come back to iPhone. If I don't, I can guarantee that the notch won't be the reason I didn't.

The next iphones may or may not have a hole-punch design, they may or may not have a notch, and may or may not have under-screen TouchID...... facts right there  Where would we be without these Analysts
Yep they just make s**t up and occasionally they luck out. I’d like to see a dedicated area on the MR site that tracks how accurate these various analysts and leakers turn out to be. I’d be surprised if they’re better than 40% reliable.

I don’t mind the notch at all, I’d prefer to see the size of the bezels reduced (therefore reducing the width and height of the phone itself too, especially if they’re not going to go back to curved edges) but doubt this’ll happen. I love the 13 pro but it feels so much more difficult to hold and use one-handed after coming from an 11 pro.

To those who say: “Apple keep the notch for marketing reasons, it makes the iPhone instantly recognisable” etc.

You have to be out of your mind if you think this is the sole reason. If it was possible for Apple to hide the notch under the display they would have done so from day one. You seriously think that if it was technically possible to have FaceID under the display they would do so but then put a notch at the top anyway just for aesthetic reasons for brand marketing? NO. They always wanted it to be under the display out of sight, but they had no other choice other than to settle for it the way it is as a temporary design compromise until they figure out a way to hide the thing which they are eventually going to do. They never wanted it there.

And that’s my other argument; they are eventually going to hide it and want to hide it under the display which has been rumoured with patents reported numerous times on this site, so it is inevitably going to look like a slab with no notch like every other phone anyway which throws the whole “It makes the iPhone instantly recognisable” argument out the window.

I assume you’ve never worked for a company that manufactures products. Apple isn’t making decisions for upgrades based on what they think they can “get away with” to keep people upgrading. In early development, they have a list of things they hope to upgrade, and as they get further alone, costs of components also becomes a factor, as does reliability, user experience, availability in volume, etc.

And these things are all happening long before competitors are releasing their versions of features like under screen cameras or folding glass panels. Apple’s looked at and likely built iPhones with hole punch cameras, under screen TouchID, folding panels, etc. Apple can’t release a product with an under screen camera, for example, if the quality is just barely adequate. That would be a bad user experience and when there are tens or hundreds of millions of consumers that would be effected by it, it would have the potential to damage the brand.

I think we all are going to need to get used to the fact that we’ve hit a wall for technology and physics and are only going to see incremental improvements to the iPhone and every other smart phone for the next 10 years at least. There will either need to be some drastic improvement to battery tech, or materials like metal and glass, that will allow more creative designs to be produced, imho.

Understandable, why bother innovating if people (I am including myself in that narrative) keep upgrading for some camera improvements alone anyway.

Also, you cannot tell me the notch is not part of their marketing to easily spot an iPhone in the wild / media. Just like AirPods are only available in white for the same reason
Don't forget the huge camera bump... Even that is there just to make a STATEMENT!

Perhaps the rumors should be interpreted, so that we do get a punch hole design, but that this only means that the notch becomes an elongated circle, thus showing a bit of the display above the current cameras/lasers/whatnots.

I honestly feel Apple won't be bringing Touch ID to the Face ID enabled iPhones. How else do they get us to buy the apple watch with its ability to unlock the phone with a mask?

Why is having the notch so bad? I like having one there - without it it would be that much harder to find the earpiece when answering or making a call. I don’t like the home button per se but back then it was easy yo determine which way was up or down. Remove the notch all together and I’ll be constantly making calls on the wrong end of the phone

Guess I’ll keep hold of my iPhone XS and wait for the iPhone 15.

GET RID OF THE NOTCH ALREADY.
