I like the fact that Apple didn't change the camera layout on the back of the iPhone at all. Now people think I have the way-cool-bitch'n iPhone 13 Pro. Thanks Tim!/s 😁

Replace the word "notch" with "crotch" in this thread, then read the entire thing from the beginning. It'll put this whole issue into the proper perspective.

There is no way Apple would do that. They will rather keep the notch if that’s the case.

I honestly don’t see them keeping the notch forever though just because. It is already outdated and has aged like milk. They never wanted it there in the first place, as I said the only reason it’s there is because it wasn’t and still isn’t yet technically possible to have it under the display out of the way. Once that is possible then it’s bye bye lil notch.

Apple can put Touch ID on the power button like the iPad and the notch most of us are already are use to it.. I personally don’t like the hole punch I think thats its more of an eyesore than a notch on the top of the screen..

I don't see TouchID coming anymore as Apple already put a more profitable solution, using the Apple Watch. Why would Apple prevent people from buying more Apple products?

Why is having the notch so bad? I like having one there - without it it would be that much harder to find the earpiece when answering or making a call. I don’t like the home button per se but back then it was easy yo determine which way was up or down. Remove the notch all together and I’ll be constantly making calls on the wrong end of the phone
You don't need to find the earpiece, why would you? I do not have sight in my ears so I don't need a visual cue to place it correctly.

This would work well with what some have predicted they'll do going forward - full redesigns every three years, primarily focusing on updating internals and hardware components during those three years.

That also has to be a huge help logistically for manufacturing.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s time for us to accept that we’re only gonna see incremental changes to iPhone (and all other Apple products) for the foreseeable future - no radical design overhauls, just improved chips and cameras - until such a time we stop upgrading our devices every 1-2 years and force Timmy & Co to quit spoon-feeding us S-style updates and start actually innovating rather than just refining what the competition is doing 🧐
I don't believe any change next year as apple spent time & effort engineering to make notch smaller its don't make sense if they only use it for one year.
Apple clearly has a warehouse full of notch modules and they intend to use every single one of them

Guess I'll watch paint dry/notch getting smaller by 0.1mm for the next 10 years, there's not much else to "innovate".

The notch has only every bothered me when I've wanted to watch a show/movie on the phone. That isn't very often.

The notch is going to stay. It’s part of the styling and thus branding now.

it you show a screen outline with a notch it’s immediately recognisable as an iPhone. Conversely if I see a hole punch I immediately think Samsung.

it’s the same reason coca cola bottles are the shape they are. With zero branding or colour you can tell immediately what it is.

This rumor could be wrong, but I find it way more believable. I don’t know why people took that previous iPhone 14 rumor as gospel.

It took Apple 4 years just to reduce the notch 20%, and you think they’re now going to reduce the whole FaceID and notch to just a hole punch in 1 year?
the article isn't clear.

it says "The iPhone 14 won't rely entirely on a hole-punch cutout to house the TrueDepth camera system, possibly meaning Apple may retain the notch alongside a hole-punch design"

if the article is suggesting that only certain models will get a hole punch (Pro models) and others will keep a notch then that is something we've already heard.
I can’t imagine that Apple would make their flagship phones look like copies of 3 year old Androids. The notch will probably be with us until cameras can be put under the screen without a material loss of quality.

What?? You mean Apple wasn't going to introduce a body redesign removing the camera bump, remove the notch, add in-screen Touch ID alongside Face ID, improve the cameras, increase battery life, change to USB-C and increase performance in a year over year upgrade?

It's almost as if every new iPhone gets ~3 core new features, and has been that way since the first iPhone...This year we got 120hz, camera improvements, battery improvements. The biggest technological leap the iPhone had was from the 7 -> X with new body design, OLED, Face ID, better cameras (Front and back)..so basically 4 core feature upgrades. But that also came with the largest price hike to $1k.

Quite frankly, I don't see a major redesign next year either. I think they use the flat edges, massive camera housing, and perhaps an even smaller notch next year. I don't know what features they can add next year other than TouchID in the power button and/or USB-C charging port that would be enticing as an upgrade. We got ProMotion, amazing cameras, amazing batteries, and incredible performance with the 13 Pro.

I have also been really suspect of these design leaks that show cameras flush with the body...has anyone seen how damn big the cameras are on the 13 Pros and how far they stick out? No way Apple makes that disappear next year.

I don't care about any of that.

Just get rid of those big ugly cameras.

I don’t mind the notch at all, I’d prefer to see the size of the bezels reduced (therefore reducing the width and height of the phone itself too, especially if they’re not going to go back to curved edges) but doubt this’ll happen. I love the 13 pro but it feels so much more difficult to hold and use one-handed after coming from an 11 pro.

I made the same upgrade as you (11 Pro to 13 Pro) and honestly there’s no difference in how I hold the new model. I think you’re exaggerating.

11/12/13 pro the same. I don't see how the 13 pro more difficult to hold. Its U.
