Are you running out of the storage at this time? Having a 2TB iPhone is utterly insane! How far we've come...
Yes sir! iCloud is what is saving me. Already surpassed 1.2TB of storage and iPhone cannot handle it. 😖

Longer battery life is always better, the iPhone is already light…
They are already light compare to what? A briefcase? A laptop? A tablet? Don't get this obsession with battery life, never have and never will! My work place and my home is literally littered with wireless changers. Stations, trains, shopping centers, airports are also cluttered with specially designed places to charge your smartphone. I can't remember the last time my phone has fallen below 40% battery life.
On the other hand, when something that is meant to be mobile and spend most of the time in either your pocket or on the palm of your hand starts to get thicker and heavier it becomes an issue, at least for me. They are bulky enough as they are and I would definitely not want them to get any bulkier just for the sake of battery obsession.

I really think Apple should consider changing the iPhone lineup to make it more streamlined.

Have 2 (possibly 3 for the mini lovers) sizes of the same phone. Anyone purchasing a non-Pro iPhone is saving a small amount of money, it is not like the price difference is the same as it was with the XR and XS lineup...

5.8, 6.3 and 6.9 in size

If they want to keep a cheaper iPhone, it could just be the previous generation available in only the smaller 5.8 and regular 6.3 size. This way if people want the biggest phone they will have to buy the latest model to keep Apple's profits high.

IDK I think this would make more sense as Apple is already a premium brand and would keep people happy about size.

For the smaller models, yes, but for the Pro Max, no. Hopefully though, the replacement of Stainless Steel with Titanium will counteract the increase in batter size, keeping the overall weight the same or a little less. Any heavier is risking getting too heavy.

And that's why I think they will inevitably cave and introduce a foldable potentially next year.

Why? 2024 will mark 10 years since the iPhone Plus was introduced in 2014; a substantial change in the iPhones design since the iPhone 5. Apple had no other option because they likely were bleeding users for the larger Galaxy Note at the time, which even I liked.

2024 will be 5 years since the Fold launched and I think the category is mature and serious enough now. I keep seeing many in use. Apple knows they need to secure the moat with an option even if its not popular among its traditional base. But for users looking for something beyond another candy bar, a foldable iPhone would definitely add some rejuvenation to the brand. They could call it iPhone Ultra with key benefits:

  • Run multiple iOS apps
  • Mission control
  • Great interface for PIP and Widgets
  • Even better camera
  • Lean in on the crease with the ability to float widgets in the middle if you want, persistent dock for easy multi-tasking.
  • Stage manager for flying through apps.
  • Easy to open with MacBook like wedge
It would of course be an aspirational device. I could easily see Apple charging 2,099. Comes with 512 GBs of Storage, A18x Bionic SoC. Ultimately, this is about options and keeping users who might break the wall garden to get what's on the other side of the fence. We all saw how the Plus models, eventually the Max and Pro Max got even better.
I don't see that happening, the large amount of software changes needed that you mention being one major reason, for a device that only a minority will want to buy.

I use the 12mini.

Last week I was visiting a larger city.
Using Airpods and Maps every now and then my phone would give me about 4-5h of usage.
That is just bad.
Imagine I was using an Apple Watch as well.

At this point iPhones are very far from having a great battery life.
My opinion.
Happy to hear your thoughts!
You have a Mini. That's why your battery is rubbish. It's a tiny toy phone and you can only stuff so much battery inside.

Get a bigger phone next time? Actually you don't have a choice because the Mini is dead now.

I don't want one unless they come out with a 15 Mini.
Not happening. Looks like you'll need to find a small android phone. Do they even exist? Most people use phones in the 6-7" range. You'll just need to get a normal sized phone like everyone else.

Why do the Pro models have smaller batteries than the Amateur™ models? That is not very Pro.
The camera module needs more space in the Pro models, and the Pro models are already heavier than the "Amateur" models. Maybe other aspects of the Pro tech can compensate for the smaller battery, maybe not. (The Amateur Plus has the best battery life in the current lineup.)

They should just make the battery thicker so the lenses don't stick out and so the damned thing will lie flat on the table.
Or make the camera a modular snap-in, so that people can choose between better camera or flush back.

If Apple did a slim phone with less battery life (the type we all used to moan about) or a thicker phone with more battery life (the type we moan about now), which would you choose?

The lighter and smaller iPhone.

The battery life in today's iPhones are overkill for me.

Well, actually there could be a way, if Apple want to provide a smaller footprint.

With the upcoming 3nm tech, that will be available for regular iPhones next year, the power consumption will be noticeably lower, so a smaller battery shouldn’t be a big problem. Obviously they would have less battery life, but decent overall.

I understand that a 5,4” iPhone today is too small for the average people, even for me that I love compact smartphones. But a 5,8” iPhone, just like the iPhone X, XS, 11 Pro, with a modern design (flat edges) could be super comfortable in hand, really. I think Apple could -and should- make a 5,8” iPhone 16 along with the regular sizes. And most importantly: please don’t call it mini.

More battery is good. Don't know how anyone can complain about that. If you think iPhone is too heavy then that's your problem.

It's exactly why we want lighter iPhones, because it's our problem.

If you think iPhone has to little battery life then that's your problem.

That is good.

One of the reason I bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max, was because Apple made an insane jump in battery life that generation.

So the iPhone 15 Pro Max could be a worthy successor to the iPhone 11 Pro Max when I upgrade this year.

What large amount of software changes? Uh, devs are recompiling iPad apps for the Vision Pro in minutes, there is already this large iOS device called the iPad Mini that exist, Instagram seems run fine on the iPad. The issue here is the production cost of the device for Apple.
