Excellent! Bigger batteries are always welcome. I don’t really care much for a lighter iPhone. The weight doesn’t bother me at all.
Plenty of people do care about the weight as the comments show … they simply want an option like Apple offers for their laptops:

- The M2 MacBook Air 13 weighs 2.7 lbs. which is 56% the weight of the MBP 16 Max (4.8 lbs.).
- The lightest iPhone 14 at 172 g is 71% the weight of the 14 Pro Max. (240 g).
- The iPhone mini 13 is 59% the weight of the 13/14 Pro Max. This option was discontinued.

If weight is a big concern then people should just stick with the regular iPhone and iPhone Max. Cheaper material, lightweight chassis, and is not a pro model either.

The Pro models will be titanium this year which is ~45% less dense than Stainless steel so the Pro models will already be significantly lighter than last gen.
Isn't that just the side band around the phone though. That's only a tiny percentage of the overall volume.

What the iPhone 15 Plus needs is AT LEAST a 90Hz display. After owning the last 3 Pro Max models, I don't need a fancy camera module that makes my phone seem so massive. I would love a 512GB iPhone 15 Plus with a huge battery though, and a decent display.

As to your #2, the very definition of marketing is to figure out what people want/need/can buy.

Also (just a coincidence due to vision deterioration) I will be buying the 15 Pro Ultra or whatever they call it this year, and I am thrilled that it will see lesser battery increase than other models. :)
Lol.

What I meant was not to see what people would buy, that’s sales and marketing’s purpose for existence, but to mean their driving the proceduct creation and decisions of entirely what the product should have - not their role fully encompassing. Hence the battery (fUBar_)Some kind of wonderful ****ery right there.

I am all for a bigger battery. My 14Pro battery is atrocious, can’t wait to get rid of this phone.

Now…what do we think the price increase will be? $1099 starting for 15Pro?
If the phones start at 256GB, than $1099 would not be an increase as that’s the price of a 14 pro with 256 GB.

Which begs the question: why Apple goes for bigger battery and doesn’t even show any sign of reversing the trend? Are they building Devices for elites? Or is Apple just trying to appease as many customers as possible?
Only Apple can answer that question. It doesn't really matter which it is to me. I'll eventually vote with my wallet and buy something smaller and lighter over something bigger. Well, actually I already did, I had a 12 Pro Max, then a 13 Mini, then a 14 Pro, no max. :)

For me, once you get past a waking day, it doesn't matter, and I haven't had a phone run out in a long time. I charge my phones at night when I sleep, so the charging cycle doesn't bother me. And I can charge just about everywhere should it be a problem on an odd day for some reason. Even my car has a charger built in and I keep more than one charger at work in case someone needs an emergency charge.

I wish the MagSafe battery pack was cheaper. I've been too scared to buy a generic one because there's always a review saying it gets too hot.

Interesting how folks have differing wants. Me, I want maximum camera competence irregardless of weight/cost penalty - but I have no need for more battery. ;~)

The iPhone 15 Pro series and 15 in general feels like a transitional period right now and the real change is not gonna be until the iPhone 16 Pro series. Surprisingly, the iPhone 12 with its flat design didn't feel like that much of a dramatic change coming from the (X to 11 series). The Notch was pretty much the same up to the iPhone 13. This is where Apple is kinda starting the hit a brick wall design wise. And that's why I think they will inevitably cave and introduce a foldable potentially next year.

Why? 2024 will mark 10 years since the iPhone Plus was introduced in 2014; a substantial change in the iPhones design since the iPhone 5. Apple had no other option because they likely were bleeding users for the larger Galaxy Note at the time, which even I liked.

2024 will be 5 years since the Fold launched and I think the category is mature and serious enough now. I keep seeing many in use. Apple knows they need to secure the moat with an option even if its not popular among its traditional base. But for users looking for something beyond another candy bar, a foldable iPhone would definitely add some rejuvenation to the brand. They could call it iPhone Ultra with key benefits:

  • Run multiple iOS apps
  • Mission control
  • Great interface for PIP and Widgets
  • Even better camera
  • Lean in on the crease with the ability to float widgets in the middle if you want, persistent dock for easy multi-tasking.
  • Stage manager for flying through apps.
  • Easy to open with MacBook like wedge
It would of course be an aspirational device. I could easily see Apple charging 2,099. Comes with 512 GBs of Storage, A18x Bionic SoC. Ultimately, this is about options and keeping users who might break the wall garden to get what's on the other side of the fence. We all saw how the Plus models, eventually the Max and Pro Max got even better.

Why do the Pro models have smaller batteries than the Amateur™ models? That is not very Pro.
I think it has to do with the 120hz screen is actually more efficient than the 60hz screen on the standard model because it can lower its fps down to 1hz when you aren’t scrolling or lower to match what content you are watching where as the 60hz screen is always chugging along at 60 all the time using more power. And plus like others are saying the chip will also be more efficient too.

Not trying to sound or be negative but I don’t know why people are not happy with this news. More battery life is always a welcome change and we all should welcome that. People get used to the weight of the iPhone regardless of what it's going to be.

Rest assured, I'll take more battery life over the weight.

Yea but the Plus having more than 1 of the Pro’s is ludicrous considering the increase in price! That’s what’s up!!

How did you miss this?

2024/2025 will be the sweet spot hidden under display FT camera just like the ZTE Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro/8S Pro … when you see those in person you’ll be awestruck! Yet as a gaming phone I never understood why an exposed fan port in 2023 makes sense killing off IP68 potential.

Flip phones Flip5 & Razr+ are making some sense considering more on external screen can be done while closed.

If Apple did a slim phone with less battery life (the type we all used to moan about) or a thicker phone with more battery life (the type we moan about now), which would you choose?
Well the Galaxy S23 ultra has a 5000mah battery, a larger screen and still enough room to shove a pen inside it AND weighs less than a 14 pro max so…

They should just make the battery thicker so the lenses don't stick out and so the damned thing will lie flat on the table.

I just retired my ipad air 2 and one thing I miss is that it lies flat due to the flush camera.
