I wonder how much API access apps have to the ethernet interface. A well-featured app could turn an iPhone into a pretty nice network diagnostic device.
If iPadOS is anything to go by, I’d say not much at all.
Apple may have determined to never have their iPhone be a Swiss knife of computer unlike Linux or windows ones.

If the hotel rooms are on the same network, that's not really safer.
All things being equal, Ethernet would give you added security over WiFi.

I know this is the MacRumors forums and we have to argue about everything, lol. Nothing is perfectly-secure. But there are things you can do to make yourself less-insecure. Using Ethernet rather than public WiFi... it‘s not a perfect solution, but it does prevent someone physically outside of the hotel from snooping on the hotel’s basically-public WiFi.

Notably Wi-Fi 6E can exceed 1Gbps without wires

I have a USB-C Hub I use with my iPad that has Ethernet, HDMI, USB-A and SD/MicroSD card readers. Will all of these work with the new USB-C ports on the iPhone 15 pro?
And what comes out of the Video port if it does? Same as the Lightning to HDMI adapter used to?

Thanks for anything you can share.

It works with some USB devices (storage, mouse, keyboard), and the SD works like a flash drive too. HDMI is 4K60p, like the latest iPads. Only thing iPad Pros have over the iPhone Pro is Thunderbolt but it’s hardly useful for a tablet or phone. The lower iPhones have USB 2.0 data speeds but still have DisplayPort and work the adapter HDMI ports too.

I’ve had iPad Pros for years and they work just fine with adapters, even work with Thunderbolt docks. And the iPhone is gaining the abilities the iPads have (Minus Stage Manager).

Interesting question. I could experiment tomorrow if I remember

So the phone in the demo photo is a pro right? Otherwise how are they getting over 400mbps on USB2?

Just got my iPhone 15 Pro in. I have Spectrum internet 1gig powered by my Eero Pro 6E. Wireless speeds 996mbps download and 33.1mbps upload. Thanks to WiFi 6E and it using the 6GHz band.

Ethernet on the iPhone is definitely going to be a great feature to have

800 Mbps is pretty fast but I was able to get 815 Mbps over 5G on T-Mobile here in Newport, Rhode Island this week - I had 5 bars so I figured I’d do a speed test

I just happen to have a Pluggable USB3 to 2.5 gigabit ethernet adapter. This should be fun trying it out once I get my iPhone 15 Pro.

Makes me wonder if they'll ever offer a Samsung DeX type option. I probably wouldn't use it, but I can imagine it being useful to people who wouldn't buy a desktop any more.

I've always wanted DEX, but with an iPhone. However they need to allow different aspect ratios on the monitor out for it to work. I'm guessing at this point it's just mirroring the iPhone screen/ aspect ratio via USB-C.
